There's a reason Kalos' cast is so forgettable.
I don't disagree in that they've been putting a lot more effort into making the humans much more developed and expansive characters, now, liking the characters is another matter altogether, and you're free to call my taste shit for this, but personally, there's very few Gen 8 and 9 characters I truly like or care about despite, theoretically, being "more character".
If forced at gunpoint I think my one and only choice would be Piers. And that's some really basic bitch taste because even the biggest swooshie haters love Piers and think he's based fuck.
There's also the con of the stories becoming so human-focused the Pokemon aspect is becoming forgotten, which is something even people like Sugimori have started complaining about as we saw on the Teraleak.
