This is an attempt to make a general for 3gen games. New playthroughs, battle facilities records attempts, shiny hunting, rng manipulation, everything is accepted as long as it's related to 3 Gen games (Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green). Hopefully people are interested and this can be kept active.

I know it sounds retarded but I wanted to do a thing with the "3" and the 3 "g"s.
>>
I recently started a Ruby gameplay on my gba SP because I was attracted by the RNG manipulation thing. Managed to get a Shiny Mudkip. The plan is to go through Ruby, Fire Red and Emerald in order and build a forever save in Emerald where I try to complete the Nat dex and attempt some records in the battle frontier.

This would've been useful if I was doing a Gen 3 living dex. Already have one done but I welcome it.

"3rd Gen Gameplay General" is right there bro
>>
>>58894921
On a similar path too, though I'm a bit further along and ran with Treecko instead.

Remember, now that you've got that Mudkip on a good seed, you should be able to shiny hunt for other static Pokemon too.
.. you WERE paying mind to the timing of your Mudkip find, right anon?

>>58894986
I think they're referring to that one nerd who has a hate boner for FRLG. Usually samefags Gen 3 threads with them in between the conversations, trying to derail it. Idr his name.

>.. you WERE paying mind to the timing of your Mudkip find, right anon?
yes of course I annotated my SID. I got somewhat lucky since my earliest shiny frame has very high ivs (31/30/29/25/25/31) with a Quiet nature and it corresponds to a Ralts in route 102 which I managed to catch. Not gonna lie the fact that I all of my rng manipped shinies for Ruby will have the same PID and Nature bothers me but I guess it won't matter that much since the main run will be on emerald and Ruby is just a stepping stone.
>>
>>58895569
I'll keep that in mind for next time (assuming there will be one)

That'll just piss off the board's resident Gen 6 simp. Surprised he didn't shit up this thread with ORAS. Yet.

Newbie in RNG Manipulation here (RSE). So I got the gist of it, basically you are rerolling for a specific TID - SID combination that combined with the dead battery seed gives you a predetermined list of shiny frames. Now, I see that if you get a "unlucky" TID-SID combination (maybe your earliest shiny frame is in 3 minutes and the next one is like 7-8 minutes away) you might be forced to rng manip predetermined shiny mons in each route using the same shiny frame forcing them to have the same PID. Now if I want to reroll my seed I have to use the painting method or restart my game (in Ruby). My question is, did someone try to reverse engineer the best TID-SID combinations for RSE FRLG where there are various early shiny frames with good spread? I think that shouldn't be hard to do.
>>
>>58897663
The RNG in FRLG is actually functioning correctly, so it reassigns seeds properly. Theres not a single TID/SID combination thatll consistently produce "good Shiny frames" in the same way, so part of RNG manipulating in FRLG is determining what seed youre on.
>>
>>58898566
Thank you, I remember finding your SID in FRLG is very hard. Is using the R4 with the clone sav tool to get your SID via 3rd party software still the way to go?
>>
>>58894792
Got this while hunting in Petalburgh and watching Game of Thrones, I wanted a Slakoth but that's a 5% so I knew it was probably wasn't gonna happen.
Time to EV train.

yes so i can post about my gen 4 living dex

OP Here please go ahead and post it. Or should I just open a /2dgg/ thread and let this one die?

I don't see a reason why it has to have "Gameplay" in there and couldn't be "3rd Generation Games General".
>>
>>58900942
As I said this was an experiment to see if people were interested. Now I see that this would be limiting people that want to share 4-5 gen gameplays and hack roms too. I will open a new one in the future when this one dies called "2D Games General" so that it's less restrictive

Technically I'm a fraud so no, because I cant be assed to restart everything just for the lvl 50 Battle Tower stuff. When running through Gen 3 recently, I totally forgot about that lvl restriction and trained up a couple of my target mons past that level during the actual playthrough.

But that aside yeah, been rolling on through myself. And I agree, ribbonmastering is fun as fuck for me. Peak of autism, lets you experience a ton of different elements of the game that you otherwise wouldnt.
Just finished the Mt Battle grind for those fuckin berries recently, and cloned a shit ton of them for my forever save. Very satisfying.

I've got a whole batch o' mons I'm working on, including a Shiny Safari Zone Nidoking, a Latios, a Cubone (will be an AMarowak one day), a Shiny Sceptile, Shiny Kecleon, etc.. shitty picrel as well.
>>
Sometimes I want to do an Emerald replay on my actual cartridge but then I remember I did the Pomeg glitch on my current save file and caught a whole bunch of normally unobtainable mons and I really don't feel like doing this shit all over again

About to start simultaneously playing FR and LG. I picked Charmander for the guy but not sure who to pick for the girl. Squirtle is better than Bulbasaur, right?

I might also start R and S simultaneously some time in the future, most likely picking Torchic for the guy but not sure whether to pick Mudkip or Treecko for the girl. Or should I skip both and just play E?

>>58900955
I feel that Gen 4 is when the whole thing started going downhill. Would prefer it to just be the first 3 gens tbdesu
>>
>>58901024
>Squirtle is better than Bulbasaur, right?
In Gen 3 yeah, its probably Venusaur's weakest point, but its also Pokemon, so you could beat it with a Magikarp.
>>
>>58900980
Do it and join us

Are you guys playing on emulator or GBA SP? I have an old gba sp that works properly, the format is very compact and comfy but I can't say that the screen is good. I know there's the Analog Pocket or whatever it's called that has a way better screen but I don't like that it's not in a clam format. What should I look for? Maybe a GBA SP Ags 101 or whatever it's called? (I need a device that can read original cartridges not emulators)
>>
I recently 100%ed the Gamecube games. Those battles in Orre were pure KINO.
Now I only have to finish the battle frontier to complete gen 3 but I keep getting killed by KO moves and hardcounters.

By the way, I can trade if anyone needs a feebas.
>>
>>58901045
I used a DS until my charger broke. You should get yourself a GBxCart Reader/Writer or whatever they are called, so you can transfer your save to your 3ds. The bigger screen is worth it. And you can even activate the events while you're at it.
>>
>>58901045
Original hardware here. I still have everything from when I was a kid, games, transfer cables, etc... Been using this as an excuse to upgrade some of that though, HDMI adapter for GCN and a modded GBA with an LED screen and rechargeable battery. Been a good time.
>>
>>58901122
> You should get yourself a GBxCart Reader/Writer or whatever they are called, so you can transfer your save to your 3ds
As retarded as it sounds I want to keep my stuff as legit as possible without using external tools. For example, I consider RNG Manipulation legit, still don't know about ACE but I'll want for sure to unlock all the events in emerald
>>58901126
Me too, I have all my shit from when I was a kid in very good condition (except for the Ds). Kind of a bummer that the DSi XL doesn't have a GBA slot though...
>>
>>58901208
>As retarded as it sounds I want to keep my stuff as legit as possible without using external tools.
Depending on where you draw the line there, there are carts with preloads of event ROMs you can buy and use to inject the old events still.
On one hand, it is explicitly using external tools. On the other hand, those events used external tools anyways, so its not wildly far off.
>>
>>58901208
>I consider RNG Manipulation legit
I hacked in all events and I consider my save purer than yours. RNG manip takes away the entire breeding aspect of the game.
>>
whats the easiest way to make backups for my cartridges? Paranoid that one of these years i'll try to boot my save and it'll be dead
>>
>>58901248

I get it,I just find it very interesting and fun to do. What events can you get by data mixing? The Eon Ticket only?
>>
>>58894792
Hoenn’s like middle of the pack in terms of my favorite regions but after getting 2 Gold Symbols in Emerald’s Battle Frontier I get why people prefer it over ORAS. Training up a team for the Frontier Brain was more fun than anything I did in the remakes
>>
>>58901259
>I get why people prefer it over ORAS. Training up a team for the Frontier Brain was more fun than anything I did in the remakes

Yeah, its inclusions like that that allow you to really extract the full experience out of the game. If there's not a tough, long term challenge, there's not a real reason to engage with deeper systems like IVs/EVs, breeding, optimal movesets, etc.. and all of the experimentation that comes with those.

ORAS had its own battle facility and easier access to competitive to fill in for those who participated, but lacking variety in its battle facilities hurts.
