Is this the lamest town in Pokemon?
No
>>58896839Yes until gen 9 came along and made all the towns into glorified sandwich menus
>>58896845You clearly didn't play the games
>>58896839how is this town any more lame than Oldale town or Accumula town?Sandgem at least has the professors lab and a beach to the Pal Park.
>>58896839
>>58896852Agreeing with this that Oldale is by far the lamest town in Pokemon. Absolutely nothing there.
>>58896850Dont even remember the towns. Did they even have themes?
>>58896839why dont we be positive and talk about the COOLEST town, sidenote, Unova rly doesn't have many towns compared to cities.
>>58896866the coolest town is lavender, by far
This answer has been solved for over 20 years, its Evergrande City.
>>58896850He's not completely wrong, as most if not all towns in Paldea only have one building that you can enter in, and it's usually the copy/pasted Gym.
>>58896852accumula town has the musicians
>>58896839the fighting/ghost type gym town from galar is because it doesn’t even look like it should be in not-britain, shit looks mexican which isnt even a bad thing on its own but not in pokebritain
>>58896855The music if comfy though....
>>58896839No thats the pal park town nigga
I don't remember any Gen8 or 9 towns because they don't have "Town" or "City" in their name anymore
>>58896876Lol this. like WHERE IS THE CITY???? Even when I was a kid that had me scratching my head.
>>58896852watch your mouth faggothttps://youtu.be/Lr7dL450N2M?si=uCVLwLEAenrD7w6i
>>58896946Its clearly miscategorized or something but its a mistake GF would never make twice, makes the discussion easy however.
>>58896852Those second towns serve an earlygame purpose of centers, shops, etc. when the starting town is only a couple houses. Oldale is among the lamer, but I think the lamest goes to Los Platos followed by Aquacorde. Los Platos is also the lamest town overall in a region full of lame towns with Zapapico at a close second.>>58896861They're named after food and kitchen terms. Beyond their gyms, I can't think of anything that sets them apart; they're all restaurant hub pitstops to me.
>>58896852It probably is Oldale. Its only real purpose aside from being an early town is to be a shortcut to the cycling road.
>>58896980Aquacorde is pretty at least
>>58896980>Los PlatosThere's is no point to this place. You can remove everything, but the Pokemon Center and it will still serve the same function, especially in a gen where most generic NPCS are NPCs are non-Interactable.
>>58896839>Rowan’s Lab themeIts soul….except for Dawn’s bitch ass making you do a catching tutorial right outside town
>>58896866always loved non-summer undellahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgLsfd5uplQ
>>58897001I can't disagree with that, but one must admit that the amenities there are slim.
>>58896980>Those second towns serve an earlygame purpose of centers, shops, etc. when the starting town is only a couple houses. They got this idea right the first time with Viridian City. The first time you go through there isn't much beyond the introductory fetch quest and catching tutorial, but there's a closed gym to leave you wondering when you'll come back and a side-path to the Indigo Plateau gate as a glance at your final goal. Every other town following this archetype failed to live up to that bar. Cherrygrove, Oldale, Sandgem (they put the professor here this time, that's at least something), and Accumula are all nearly pointless additions to your adventure. How many of those other second towns had a song made about them? That's right, none.https://youtu.be/x2sAi2i2JZw
What's wrong with Sandgem Town?It has a beach next to it.
>>58896866Personally I’ve always liked Slateport and Village Bridge (if that event counts).
>>58896839the "towns" in the fight area are more boring than this place just in dppt alone
>>58897356>they took this from me
>>58896866I didn't even know this town had a summer theme until like last year
>>58896839This shit gemmy, though. It's in the name.
>>58897330Accumula is arguably the most interesting as it has the most going on and actual map design going on (even if it reminds me of Dondoran from Quest 64 which is not a great thing), has a neat little thing showing off the dynamic music, and is recontextualized in B2W2 (which is a waste as it doesn't really do anything there). Sandgem and Cherrygrove just have a "return here when you have Surf" moment which is not that impressive (Unova Route 1 already does this), but Oldale is probably like the single worst town in a classic Pokemon game, you could remove it and the only mild difference is the lack of a store you can't even buy Pokeballs from until the next town over. It's arguably even worse than lowlights from Gen 6 or 7, like Camphrier has the same nothing layout and still manages to have more going on and Aquacorde was when they were still trying to make the game look presentable.
>>58896850no he is right, the only town I can remember is the water one with the elevator. There's also specifically a town where the ONLY point of interest is an NPC trading you an evolution item for some materials. No interiors no gym no restaurant no nothing. Just a Pokemon Center and this NPC.
>>58897546It's been a long time since gen 5, but is Accumula the first place where the camera tilts down to show off a DS landscape? That'd at least be a point in its favor for memorability, but I don't see how it has "actual map design" otherwise. Elevation changes are ultimately just fancy-looking fences and pokemon towns have those in spades.I'd almost put it near Oldale. You go to it, see the plasma intro cutscene, and never return again. Oldale is at least usable as the post-Norman path to let you surf back to Slateport/Mauville if you don't want to go the long way around for whatever reason.
>>58896839Oldale town is just Sandgem town but without the beach setting or a Lab. Not hating on Hoenn but that’s how it is
>>58896866Those anyone feel like Pastoria and Snowpoint city should have just been named towns instead?I like those places by the way.
>>58897523what the hell i didnt know this either, thats cool
>>58897356One of BDSP's side effects is that Bulbapedo now uses this comfy concept art on the infobox of (some) Sinnoh Towns instead of just using a boring Platinum layout map or (god forbid) a BDSP screenshot. Now if only they didn't also replace the drawings of the characters with the shitty 3D models...
>>58898346Cianwood should've been named a town as well
>>58896876What does the staff do that in that PC all day?
>>58898708I can't image they get many visitors so they probably just play games on the pc all day.
>>58896839This is where I go to plow Dawn daily
>>58897598>Elevation changes are ultimately just fancy-looking fences and pokemon towns have those in spades. You say that but a lot of these early nothing towns don't have them at all, so unfortunately it manages to bumble over that incredibly low standard. Hell, it's got more going on in the map design than Lavender (minus an actual landmark that matters, of course). Like, there's very little functional difference between Cherrygrove (it having water in the town at all is probably the main standout among these), Oldale, and Sandgem, so barely scraping against Viridian and Pewter levels of map design is absolutely an evolution of the map design compared to the first towns (which also generally have basically the same map design of four houses in a square shape).
>>58899240That's fair, by the standards of second towns it could manage a depressing runner-up position. Starting towns feel like they get a pass no matter how barren just by virtue of being starting towns to be abandoned immediately. The BW2 one is the only one that I can remember having more than a lategame surf connection like gen 1/2.
>>58898346Snowpoint is peak comfy
>>58896866I'm fond of Aspertia City from BW2. It felt nice to start in a city through and through for a change
>>58896839>Quick access to a beachI'd live there unironically.
>>58900373>plateau built that goes fuckass nowhere, made for short lived storyreally killed the vibe. even lillycove and mossdeep somewhat tried.
>>58900504It remains nice for views though, I like it. Granted I’m a fan of cities and towns having spots to just chill out in Pokémon, it’s a huge part of why I like Kalos
