Mega evolutions have their own separate kind of resource. To get the energy if you NEVER mega evolved that specific pokemon before, you can get it if the same mega pokemon is in the raid rotation or from research tasks(very rarely). Once you've evolved, you can get mega energy from walking it. The "price" of evolving one is a bit costly for the first time, but the more you do it and/or the longer it has been since you last mega evolved it, the less it costs.
