Tell me about it, SaS current fifth singularity arc could use a serious amount trimming or the cutting out of several characters because right now, I think there's like 4, secretly 5 or 6, factions being juggled and each chapter could genuinely be summed up in a paragraph and you wouldn't miss a single thing.
We are like 230k words deep in this arc and it doesn't feel like we've approached any midpoint or any way of solving the singularity and oops Morgan just nuked a town. I might be wrong, but I don't really want to go and reread it.
Doesn't help that every character feels stagnant as fuck since basically minimal amount of time has passed in the story.
I'm a little more tolerant of Demon in Fodlan but that's because there are less characters to juggle in my mind but still, the last couple of chapters can be summarized as

Other than that I really hope the Kemo Desu/RWBY crossover Remnant's Nightmare gets contined. There's so few good fics for Kumo Desu Ga Nani ka and I'm already working I'm aleady working on other things so it's not like I have the free time to work on one myself. Besides the nature of the story would make me want to write a crossover and I haven't found a series that I both like and is as fitting as RWBY. Personally I'm not a fan of Jaunefics.

Yeah I tried reading the first couple chapters and it just didn't grab me, hard to say why but I think it was the dialogue, the prose felt kind of clunky at times as well? I guess I also found the pokespeak annoying here, although I don't know why, most of the time I'm fine with it.
Also I found Gary's conversation with Tracy and Cypress weird, what's so unbelievable about a big monster that Gary would assume it's a Zoroark. It's kind of a convoluted explanation when I feel like a more natural assumption is what Gary said to Cypress earlier in the same chapter. It's an undiscovered pokemon, so he wants to catch it.
Basically anything can be a pokemon in the first place so the natural assumption is that Grimm are just weird pokemon and Gary's convoluted logic doesn't make sense from the point of view of a human from pokearth, it feels like the author is just trying to arbitrarily make him stupider which his weird assumption about how Grimm are SO unbelievable they have to be Zoroark using illusions.

Some parts in the middle aren't great, like pointless aura developments that never amount to anything and a disappointing showdown with Lysandre, but on the whole I'd say it's definitely worth a read. I really liked his fight with Malva and the ending was solidly memorable enough to justify everything else.

There's a reason LOICENSES are a meme mostly exclusive to fanfic: when something is inherently boring the series creators don't bother incorporating it and you shouldn't either.

If something interesting happens to flesh out the world or one or more relevant characters, write about that and only that. The forgettable stuff can be summarized. Unless paranoid preparation is a trait you explicitly want to develop, don't go into detail buying TMs and items when you can mention them briefly in passing then whip them out dramatically in a crisis.

You can write an entire shopping trip if stuff actually happens there, like your guy being an awkward loser that spills his spaghetti, a chad that flirts with the cashier, or having to wrangle his kleptomaniac Pokemon.

That said, I think prose is the best medium for occasionally dropping in some laid-back SOL. You could use it to reinforce some change in the status quo (two rivals bury the hatchet and become friends? Now you can step back and show the reader what their uneasy friendship looks like) or give the reader/your characters the opportunity to relax after some high-tension sections.

I really enjoyed the bumming around sections in Hyphen as well as in Spice and Fox. Although I enjoyed S&Fs more since there were less of them, William and Braxien's date was really cute. In comparison the beginning of Hyphen is a lot of slowly paced bumming around that kind of drags.
So it depends on how you pace it, as long as it isn't constant and it has fun character interactions I'll like it.
Although this is coming from a guy who doesn't like trainer battles, doesn't mind long winded internal monologues either, and likes character interaction. So take it for what you will.

Besides the obvious super mainstream ones, I'm not entirely certain how popular Porygon, Golisopod, Nidoking and Lycanroc are in general, so I can't say for sure. But I try to mitigate that by giving every character a unique team suited to their overall personality, so even if they have some popular 'mons they've also got more niche ones to show off.

I pick mons based on how well they fit the role of the story. So I pick strong/iconic mons when that's what would fit the story more.

This really only counts for Crystal Light as its my only story that really has traditional battles. The main group has all three Kanto starters and Pikachu, but that's because they are meant to be expies of Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. So the MC has Blastoise, but it was chosen more for being an armored 'knightly' pokemon. It and the rest of his team are based on the classes from Final Fantasy 1 so Blastoise is Fighter, but the other mons are ones that I don't see as especially popular, strong, or iconic. So far the his three other pokemon are Hitmonchan for the Black Belt, Chansey for the White Mage, and Vileplume for the Black Mage. The other characters in the main group have several of their own pokemon, but the mons chosen with less of a theme. Just whatever best fits the story as it evolves.

Should I use language barriers when dealing with foreign characters even tough the Pokemon world doesn't have them?

The reason they has them should have at least a little thought put into it, but depending on the mythicals it shouldn't need too much justification. As long as you're not using them to emphasize how cool and special the MC is then its really not that big a deal. Mythical Pokemon are a FOMO invention to drive sales. That doesn't need to matter for fanfic lore.
You could just own it and say the character was lucky or treat it like they're not impossibly rare in universe. It's easier to justify Shaymin or Victini compared to Mew, but it doesn't really matter if it suits what you're trying to do. Pokken certainly wasn't afraid of having 4 mythicals on deck as assists.

Normally my advise would be to make Dawn physically more attractive by turning her into busty version of NPC Akari and set her as the main love interest for Ash since she is the only lead girl that nailed her role as co-protagonist, has better chemistry with Ash and her Piplup is as marketable as Pikachu. Dawn only flaw is that she is not as busty like Serena & Misty.

Ask yourself, what is the actual flaw of Serena? The answer, her chemistry with Ash & her superficial personality that make everything she does feel manufactured which ironically is also the same flaw that Liko has. She always act submissive & weak whenever Ash is nearby while Ash has to act like a generic paladin type ikemen characters to keep up with the "hero" image inside Serena's mind. This prevented Ash & Serena from developing actual chemistry to the point they does not even feel like friends.

So the anime need a situation where Serena loses her hero image of Ash while he stop treating her like a princess.

Gonna be 100 with you, if your character's goal is to win all of the gym badges and they stop for some arbitrary reasons like those (especially for bureaucratic reasons), it'd be a very unsatisfying end (even though it isn't). I assume you're starting with the trainer at the beginning, they go through a journey, only to fail... You'd need basically a whole second story (can be much shorter than the first) explaining how the MC overcame whatever barrier there was. If your MC has a different goal than collecting badges, than this works. Maybe they got so invested in stopping the evil team or had to go home to take care of the family farm that they had to abandon that part of the journey. That's totally okay. If a close family member or friend died and it really shook the MC, I could see that being intriguing, learning to pick the pieces back up again.

If I were to attempt to pull something like this off, I'd start at the point the MC stops off from their journey. Whatever roadblock it is (psychological/emotion is best imo), the MC goes on a different sort of journey trying to overcome that. Maybe they mentor some rookie trainer from their hometown and that young trainer helps our MC find what's been missing.
