Flora is a fairy type gym leader, and she has these Pokemon: Alolan Ninetails, Azumarill, Mawile, Blue Flower Florges, Rainbow Swirl Clover Sweet Alcremie, and her obvious ace here, Sylveon. Sadly, since I can’t draw gym leaders, I made this with AI. Her gym badge is in the top right corner. What are your thoughts?
Cute!
>>58905295You mean he, not she
>>58905322Acacia is a girl…Sorry I was thinking of names and finally settled on acacia but forgot to change flora in the comment. Her name is Acacia.
>>58905322Was surprised OP didn’t say he, would’ve made for a better joke
>>58905327I mean, grusha, Rika, Japanese have a hard time making their male characters masculine… I get it!
>>58905331Ok Apparently Rika is a girl, I thought I heard somewhere that she is a boy.
If you're being serious there's a lot of information missing. What project is this for? If it's a game, what are the stat lines? If it's just a story, what role do they play? Are they just an obstacle to be overcome, do they have a little episode helping them with something like it's some gym leaders in the anime, do they stick around like you're Takeshi Shudo desperately trying to fill out the main cast? Sometimes you have to think about these things. If you want some examples of the kind of things you need to think about, I can give you a sample of style for a project I've been mulling over for a while.
>>58905333She is a gym leader I just randomly thought of, I guess I would put her in alola. I’m not a part of game freak, but I mean, MandJTV made an entire video on what gym leader they’d be in each region. So I thought why not?
>>58905338Alola is a slightly odd choice, given the lack of gyms the few times we see it, but I don't blame you for forgetting about the existing fairy specialist Mina because she barely shows up in SM and I'm one of like two people that cares about SM. I don't watch many of what people would call "Poketubers" (if they're not Reverend or DeltaSeeker anyway) so I dunno much about that, but if this is a self insert thing I guess it's mostly harmless even if that is a little too teenage girl for my taste (I'm more at the point where I extrapolate a specific aspect of myself to create a character concept if I even do that which isn't always the case). Incidentally, one version of that idea I had also featured a region in a later state, although a number of the ideas and themes are relatively transferable to a more original setting if needs be.
>>58905344I guess alola does have no real gyms, more like islands for the island Kahunas or whatever, I’d put her in Sinnoh.
>>58905351Part of the Gen 7 titles was about building a league, who's to say that it wouldn't become more like other regions. Then there's things like how it coexists with the existing island tradition, does it entirely replace it or does it run in parallel as a different thing? Just giving up isn't nearly as interesting. Even then Sinnoh raises questions. What city is she operating out of? Celestic is a town without a gym but it's pretty small and out of the way, Floroma sort of fits I guess, Jubilife is without a gym leader entirely despite being a pretty big city, Solaceon doesn't really fit and is too small as well, or if a gym leader left or retired why not have Fantina go back to French Canada or whatever and have your gym leader set up shop in Hearthome? And if you really want to, you can give her something else to do like the Gen 5 gym leaders having another job they do in addition to being a gym leader that are less consistent in the other games (although there's a few notable examples in Sinnoh as well, it's probably the first generation where it's a majority employed in other fields even if it's a little bloated by people sharing similar jobs). I think the reason people are making fun of you, aside what seems like cheap LGBT bait from a cursory glance, is that you're not giving anything to latch on to that says otherwise.
>>58905369Would take floroma, my gym puzzle would be a pink mist that has various pokemon crys that lead the way. First, cleffa. If you follow the Mr mime call you get led to a pokemon battle with a trainer. Next room, azurill. Follow the Mr mime again, and get led to the trainer battle room. And the last room would be mime jr. follow the Mr mime again, and get led to the battle trainer room.
>>58905295>rainbow colors on the skirt Is he a tranny or just a lesbian?
>>58905390Ah, OoT Lost Woods with a bit of Gen 3's schizophrenia feature, that's an idea. Hell, given the plant town and Lost Woods I just mentioned make it more of a fey forest kind of deal. Maybe even iterate on the puzzle of each section, have each one be a different type of indication like the original Paper Mario's if you're feeling particularly spicy with the variation on the puzzle.
>>58905397Ahem… SHE… Acacia is a girl.Rainbow skirt could be normal on a girlPlus it looks cute rainbows a good color.
>>58905407Nice to know you noticed that detail! I am a Zelda fan…
>>58905415I'm not the biggest Zelda fan, although that's mostly because my first Zelda was, well, the first Zelda (good old Hyrule Fantasy) and none of the games after even remotly scratched that same itch (the Switch titles come close but the lack of good map design outside of Echoes of Wisdowm holds most of them back a lot). Still I like the Game Boy titles and Majora's Mask a lot, and Wind Waker is a vibe even though it's cut quite short and is easy even for a fairly easy series like Zelda. Really the only one I played a lot and outright dislike is Link to the Past but that's mostly down to personal taste and I've got oddly specific taste. Regardless, while looking to other video games is useful (even subconsciously), sometimes it's worth thinking about something new that can be done. What exactly that is in the context of Pokemon and in particular gym leaders isn't exactly easy, the limited design space combined with fairly common puzzles between them means there's not a ton of room to innovate in any meaningful way, plus fairy as a type isn't the best for novel combat encounter design. Misty Terrain to prevent self status effects is maybe a few too many steps for a player to even encounter before they sweep a team, so I dunno. This isn't even getting into the stage of the game the encounter is in where a gym leader could have anywhere from 2 to 5 Pokemon unless you stick with the modern design of only 3 Pokemon. Regardless, there's a lot of things to consider and unfortunately I think way too much about game design.
>>58905431I’m an autistic which makes me pay a lot of attention to detail, so I can relate to this. I am good at remembering names and acacia kinda has a history with me. Back when I played Minecraft I saw an acacia tree. I thought it was pronouced uh-sid-ee-uh so I named one of my wolves acidea. Once I learned it was acacia I thought it sounded beautiful and now I constantly use it.
>>58905451If you really are autistic, I'm going to give this to you straight because I dunno how functional you are (I had Aspergers before they put all that shit on the spectrum). I've lurked long enough not just on here but on the internet as a whole to know a couple of tips for your general internet usage, and I dunno how old you are or how long you've been on the internet so you might genuinely not have encountered half of this even if you've been around for the last decade or so.Starting from the most specific 4chan stuff, the character design, Pokemon, and color choices can scream "transexual" to the terminally online, but I've seen an actual poster on here that posts his femboy who likes Unown too much and you don't seem like that so I'm willing to bet against that (how sincere you are is another matter entirely but we'll get to that later).Secondly, nobody gives a shit about your OCs enough for them to have their own thread. This isn't against you necessarily, but not only do we have a regular thread for trainer OCs (which you can find if you search the catalog with relative ease if you're remotely savvy) so your thread is redundant, even more general OC gets shit on, from that guy who constantly posts new starter Pokemon for his game he'll never finish instead of posting it in the romhack/fangame thread, to the Delcaty schizo who is at least occasionally funny but is definitely tiresome if you see enough of the threads. Before I get into some character design stuff in my next post, I want to say if this is some insincere attempt at rage baiting I'm falling for it, but I'm also trying to do so in a constructive way so people scrolling by might pick up on some useful information one way or another. So I guess if you're trying to make the board worse sorry for making high effort posts about making art on a design level.
>>58905465On general character design, your OC is straddling this weird line between basic but slightly too much going on. It's probably a combination of the AI and the rainbow skirt. In fact I think the skirt throws off the color palette a lot. Say what you will about the borderline transexual pastel blue and pink, but the rainbow skirt adds a bit too much color wise. You usually only want three or four main types of color in your design, usually with a more neutral white or black in there depending on the design. On the other hand there's no interesting detailing outside of the skirt's color so you're left with an extremely basic design. Again, some of this is down to the AI not really being able to get into specifics without being trained on anything specific, so there's only so much you can do without extremely fastidious prompting (trust me, I've tried to make my friend's OC with SDXL it's a pain even with a half assed LORA). But I guess my point is there's not enough of the right stuff going on, too much of the wrong stuff going on, and a distracting color choice for the average 4chan user. Like this is something we'd make fun of if we saw this on Deviantart over a decade ago and it's not even as bad as some of that can be.As a last point, don't be too afraid of drawing actually terrible stuff. Like, don't go posting it around too much outside of like /ic/, the board designed for art criticism, but drawing like crap is fine if you're passionate about it and try to improve. It took the friend of mine I mentioned until like last year to become genuinely really good and they started as an extremely crappy Deviantart artist like 20 years ago. But if you're not that into drawing then whatever, at least think about the character design advice.
