GF should hit reset on base stats and bst. They've given some old mons bumps before, but they need to stop being precious about the lore or intended function assigned to these mons. You can keep Butterfree weak in the core games, but can they at least give it some stats in Champions?

So no, they "won't give butterfree stats" in Chmapions, because it's meant to be akin to how it is in the proper games - a weak bug-type shitmon, because it's one the first early royute bug type shitters meant to be disposed when other better pokémon start appearing.

You could make the same case against any mon getting new moves or abilities. "You can't give it that, it's supposed to be shit!". Butterfree's speed or HP stats aren't some sacred truth etched in stone. GF has even changed shit mid-gen, like the Hypnosis acc drop in gen 4. Champions is the perfect platform to introduce new "battle standards" without having to rely on, or without hampering, the core games. Just like how the Legends games do their own unique shit that deviates from the old mechanics.

I hate having to defend GF but no matter what they do there will always be 30 or so pokemon that have higher usage rates than the rest of the dex, that's how gaames work

Nah, I play. I just want to see more tools have more viability. Gimmicks can make good mons better and bad mons good. Just give shitmons more stats. They made up stats when they introduced SpDef, they changed stats a few times since then.

Champions is inherently going to be different from the main games. Why force it to be 1:1 with SV, and then 1:1 with WW? We already know it handles IVs differently

I'm all for Game Freak deciding what should and shouldn't get boosted. I'm not particularly for shitheads thinking because it's a spin-off, it needs to completely and utterly change how things play. It may be a spin-off, but the first spin off to actually use the traditional battle engine made by Game Freak, given it's meant to be JUST a fucking battle sim game for PvP and to host VGC (which last I checked ALSO used the actual game Freak battle engine, where shit got stats determined by location, stage of game when encountered (onix with fuckoff high DEF, but little attack, to be a wall for timmy to break down without actually getting in trouble) and intent behind its creation. And all of that means early-route shitmon are meant to be bad, as they're meant to be replaced by other, better (or more favoured) designs and creatures. Biggest fucking issue you cuntrags have is not fucking understanding if you pick a shitmon as your absolute favouritests bro 5EVAR, it's supposed to be that way. Play contrarian games, win contrarian prizes. Or just go fuck off and play one the old-old spin-offs that ignored the trad Game Freak engine and mixed up the framework. You know, one the games where it appeared and was a rape machine, like you think it should be in the core games.
