Nintendo wouldn’t allow it, they very much want to keep Pokemon a child oriented franchise that does its best not to offend any parents. GameFreak and other companies that worked with TPC fucked with that goal, but Nintendo put them in their place or ghosted them.

Its kind of amusing. GF did everything possible to sanitize Pokemon while Japanese kids played FF7 and FF8 until their fingers bled. Pokemon could have gone a little edgier and still been the G rated version of [insert favorite JRPG series here].
The real tragedy is that none of the new games have a recognizable identity, except for maybe Legends Arceus.

Because all the old franchises have been overly sanitized to the point where kids aren't interested anymore. The only people that still care about Pokemon or any of those old franchises are the people that are old enough to remember when they were still good, before they poured Clorox bleach on it and sanded down all the edges to make it safe for the most sickly preemie in the NICU

In retrospect it's really silly yet on brand how Game Freak didn't let Genius Sonority continue with the series as they then proceeded to make Doubles the official competitive format while doing nothing to get new players' feet wet in the format during the main story.
