Do you miss the Safari Zone?
>>
Honestly no.
>>
>>58921601
It was a good idea, but bad implementation because the pokeballs they give you are shit, you have a timer, and all the skills you learnt catching pokemon are completely irrelevant. Cool world building though. Nice to know pokemon would have nature reserves in the real world
>>
>>58921601
gen 1: it ran away oh you're out of time
gen 2: woops we closed it
gen 3: hope you like hunting johto mon in this hellscape
pokemon snap, legends arceus, za: the whole game is just safari zone
pokemongo: mighty pokemon with high iv on the overfield and safari balls that catch them easier and usable on roaming galar birds during the event. perfection

>>58921625
What about Gen 4?
>>
>>58921601
>>58921625
GO and LGPE are basically Safari Zone: The Game
>>
>>58921601
Fuck no

It'd have been more interesting if the mons couldn't flee, but instead, they could attack the player directly while you're trying to catch them. Obviously, when the player's "HP" falls to 0, it's not a Game Over but you lose the safari game and are booted back to the entrance.
>>
>>58921649
What if they bring back the Safari Zone in Gen 10, but the gameplay morphs in the one of the Legends Arceus, but you can't use Pokemon?
>>
>>58921601
It's a good idea, but I wish there was some depth to it. You're better off just throwing a ball and ignoring the rock and bait.
>>
>>58921725
>You're better off just throwing a ball and ignoring the rock and bait
Eh, I found that I was always more successful throwing a rock first, then start chucking balls right after.
>>
>>58921736
Still, that's very little depth.
>>
I think it served its purpose. Fun gimmick for gen 1, helpful in expanding the Pokédex in gen III, a tolerable but less than ideal fix for the Johto pokémon question in the gen IV remakes. But it shouldn't be a core mechanic of the series.
>>
i miss specifically the hgss one
>>
>>58921601
>implying I play modern slop
>>
Legends gameplay is pretty much the evolution of this, and the Pokemon Go + Let's Go capture stuff is pretty much the safari zone, just you have an assortment of berries to throw instead of rocks and mud.
>>
>>58921601
Caught legit Safari Ball Beldum twice since my battery died nicknaming the first one. That’s enough for me for a lifetime
>>
>>58922159
Too bad they ruined catching in ZA.
>>
Yeah, it was garbage but atleast it was content which the newer games lack
>>
>>58921648
You get stuck in mud and constantly run into Pokémon you can encounter outside.
>>
>>58921601
>shitty RNG timesink
Nope. I'm glad ORAS just make the Safari Zone into normal routes before the whole concept was retired forever.
>>
>throw glorified great balls constantly because it's the mathematically best option in most cases
>step counter that only exists as a holdover from gen 1 making the safari zone a maze
>lolxd the pokemon ran!
it's shit and I hate it.
>>
>>58921741
Yeah, I agree. Which is why I think it'd have been more interesting/entertaining if the safari game was more about "surviving" than "chucking balls and praying for the fucking thing not to run away".

Instead of running away, the mons can attack the player character directly, and whether they're aggressive or not depends on how you use rocks and baits (rocks make them more likely to catch but way more aggressive, and baits mellow them out but make them harder to catch).
>>
>>58921601
It reeks of "soulful game mechanic from an early installment that never quite worked". They shouldn't bring it back, but I think they had something going with this idea of an alternate way of catching Pokemon in the game.
>>
>>58922445
did the great marsh even have any unique encounters in DP besides carnivine (who sucks)
platinum, if i recall correctly, at least added tangela and yanma
>>
>>58922501
Different personalities, bait types, and interactions between throwing rocks or bait would go a long way to making the Safari interesting. It could still be something that gets solved, but you'd have a different flowchat for each mon.
>>
>>58922628
there's a lot of pokemon that are said to be lovers not fighters, and then they still require a duel to the death to capture. it's a strange juxtaposition.
>>
>>58922445
>You get stuck in mud
skill issue
>and constantly run into Pokémon you can encounter outside.
demonstrably false
you'd have a point if you complained about the rotating encounters (no i'm not waiting for carnivine) but there are unique encounters outside of that
>>
>>58922658
croagunk and marill

I'd have preferred if GF improved on it as opposed to just scrapping it altogether. Little worldbuilding details like the Safari Zone, the casino, etc are what make the world feel alive instead of just some colorful theme park that you're being chauffeured through. Besides, breaking up the monotony of catching Pokemon the normal way is exciting for kids.

But as it stands, with the most effective method of play being just chucking Safari Balls one after another and hoping for the best (and somehow it works out this way in every one of its mainline appearances), it was just sort of annoying once the novelty wore off.

>>58921613
In Gen 1, Safari Balls are just Ultra Balls, and in every other appearance, they're just Great Balls. I felt a little less annoyed about the Safari Zone once I realized that, given the price of admission, it's "financially worth it" if you catch even one Pokemon during your visit. Still a major pain in the neck, though.
>>
>>58923363
It's a grind, but you can put yourself in a corner and get effectively infinite steps to find what you want.
>>
>>58923373
Man, I felt like such a fucking Galaxy Brain when I figured that out as a kid
>>
>>58923391
Then in RSE, you can just hop in place with the Acro Bike.
>>
>>58922393
Based
>>
>>58921601
Absolutely fucking not. It was the worst part of every game it was in, and don't you fucking get me started on the complete and utter hell that it makes randomizers

>>58921625
>pokemon snap, legends arceus, za: the whole game is just safari zone
You have never played any of those games and it shows. Snap is a spinoff for taking fucking pictures. Legends actually lets you fucking battle wild pokemon to catch them, unlike the safari zone.
>>
>>58923402
Silly GameFreak for not thinking of randomizers.
>>
>>58921601
Kinda. It's a good way of getting 'exotic' mon that don't fit the region. There was definitely more they could have expanded on with the Friend Safari concept, which was fun.
>>
>>58921601
Yes I love them however I admit the rare mons tend to be a bit too aids to get
>>
>>58921601
I like the concept of the Safari Zone in terms of being an area with unique mons, but just don't find it fun. Not even because the mons are hard to catch, but because I don't enjoy how not using your mons means you don't earn any experience.

I just feel like I'm wasting time when I see mons that aren't the one I want and have to run from them or whatever. In a normal circumstance I could at least fight them and get something out of it.
