It feels like generation 7 onwards there has been a big drop off in the overall quality of Pokémon designs. I dislike the majority of the designs from gens 8 and 9. There is a reason why most people's favorites are from gen 4 or before.
I think Gen 7 onwards has lower lows but higher highs. Shitty designs are really bad but good designs are up there. Like Golisopod, Toxtricity or Cetitan are really really good
