Which Pokemon game had the best looking Pokedex or menus in general

The book motif is cool

I'll be completely honest and admit I never imagined this design was based on a book.
I can see it now tho
>>
>>58922204
I can see it now that you point it out, but I don't think it's done that well. Maybe if it was more like a notebook with a horizontal spine it would look better.

>>58922199
its hgss, but they really were on a roll for awhile basically up until the switch games where the ui design went back to shit for some reason
>>
>>58922277
it literally opens like a book when you get a new mon
>>
>>58922199
im partial to the alola dex and the way it groups pokemon in a little action shot, but HGSS is the best over all.

Dex: Alola
Menus: Gen 4 Sinnoh

looks nothing like a book.

I liked how frlg had them doted by habitat. Otherwise, I like how Alola grouped things. Made filling it out more satisfying.

Overall HGSS has the best menus but SM has by far the best pokedex.
I love how simple, convenient and pretty the HGSS menu is and how it makes use of the touchscreen. The toggle for running and registered items is probably one of the best ideas GF ever had, no wonder they got rid of it.
The Alola dex is just satisfying to fill up, both because it has a great selection of mons and because the UI is really stylish. I just wish it would shut up.

The advent of Rotom was a disaster for Pokemon as a whole. I fucking hate that thing and how the modern games use it as a pseudo-mascot.

From a purely visual standpoint. Gen 5 easily has the best menu for everything, be it either BW or B2W2, it was also cool how B2 and W2 had different colours the menu, even if the latter one looks not as good as the former. I really like the Item menus for both out-of-battle and in-battle, the Pokédex, the Party screens, the battle display for bottom screen and top screen. It looks cool seeing the six HP bars there in Triple Battles with the six Pokémon, makes things look all complex and strategic. Gen 5 is also the first gen to have the animation for an Ability activating, instead of only text, and no other Ability activation animation has ever come close since. But some of the menu's aren't as good, like some of the ones from the C-Gear.

But gen 6, is a good second place, some of the things I said from gen 5 apply there too. For gen 6, notably, the PSS has really good menus and as >>58922204 said the Pokédex. The PokéNav Plus makes things even better for gen 6. And it was cool how in ORAS that Super Secret Bases and Pokémon Contest Spectaculars both had their own unique visual style of menus to fit their own vibes.

I love HGSS and its menus but the Pokedex design itself is some Sega Master System ass shit

Look at this shit, I hate the white square aesthetic it always reminds me of math, and I was good at math

How can you take a stylish game like OutRun and make it look like math

I pretty much agree with everything here, except I think the bottom screen is used so much more effectively for things in VI that it is better than V. V LOOKS cooler and has cooler sound effects but VI is a better UX overall and more useful. PSS is probably the best thing about that generation.

kek, thats all im gonna see now

I agree with you too. I didn't account for any real gameplay usage of the menus, as OP only mentioned wanting to talk about the visuals of the menus. Like you said, I also feel that in terms of actual use, the gen 6 menus are really good. As gen 6 had the PSS and the PokéNav Plus. And you mentioned the sound effects of gen 5, those added to the menus too, like that Ability activation animation I mentioned.
