What went wrong?
>>58924562We obviously need to go back into the past with the Legends Games, since Game Freak are too pussy to do anything interesting with a timeskip in a region anymore
>>58924562Unironically review bombing. ZA map is small, but it's not a 4.7 game if you think Arceus was an 8.0
>>58924562it was doomed the minute we learned it was all in one city
>>58924578I would excuse it if the map was at least interesting, running around Lumiose got old 1 hour into the game, solid 5/10 experience.
>>58924562In my opinion PLA has a very distinctive vibe that separates it from the other titles on switch that ZA does not have.Soul is a buzzword but I'd say it had a moodier, more introspective and relaxed atmosphere, the softer visuals emphasized this. You were tasked with exploring this world, which was as foreign to you as it was many of the NPCs and townsfolk you helped, it gave you this sense of place, and not in a "chosen hero" kind of way, but in the fact that you were going out into the world alone and driving the game all on your own, that feeling of being alone with nature is a core focus, you're in a mysterious world with dangerous pokemon who want to rip you apart but the game focuses more on the serenity of nature, as if you were on vacation.Jubilife village does a great job at encapsulating the vibe the game is going for imo https://youtu.be/x1y_0DwRoc4?si=ro14RbQaz7ohNTPDBy contrast, ZA just feels like the same presentation, vibe, and theming of SwSh & SV, I can't glean anything from it's theming beyond just "the wonderful world of Pokemon!" You DO feel like you're just "the chosen hero", working as the shiniest cog in a preexisting machine, the wild zones feel more like enemy gauntlets, and the pokemon more like obstacles in your path.that's probably not why review scores are the way they are, but that's my thoughts on why ZA didn't quite carry the torch
>>58924562Battling makes casuals insecure and Z-A's entire content was all about battling.People didn't like Arceus because you had to catch Pokemon in real time and not you had to catch and battle them in real time. And don't get me started on online ranked
>>58924562Sinnoh >>> Kalos
>>58924675ZA's Ranked mode is the worse Ranked mode I've ever played in a video game, like holy shit it's bad
It wasn't a Legends game, it was X2Y2 with arpg combat while Arceus has turn based combat like FFX
>>58924562It's popular to hate modern Pokemon and people want to fit in
>>58924562ZA got too ambitious with the real time combat and pretty much everything else suffered as a result and the end result with the combat isn't even good. I expect legends galar to be an even bigger train wreck if the leaks about gamefreak trying to ape pikmin are true. Nintendo themselves struggle to make good pikmin games, what chance do the wildly inexperienced, incompetent, and lazy gf devs have of succeeding?
>>58924675what kind of ESL are you
>>58924604>You were tasked with exploring this world, which was as foreign to you as it was many of the NPCs and townsfolk you helped, it gave you this sense of place, and not in a "chosen hero" kind of way, but in the fact that you were going out into the world alone and driving the game all on your own, that feeling of being alone with nature is a core focus, you're in a mysterious world with dangerous pokemon who want to rip you apart but the game focuses more on the serenity of nature, as if you were on vacation.>Jubilife village does a great job at encapsulating the vibe the game is going for imoThe irony of this is that youre quite literally a messiah chosen by God himself but the game was smart to not shove that in your face. Its very clear whoever plotted this game out was looking back at older pokemon games. Not only does the art style callback to pre DreamWorld era pokemon but the actual games priorities better align with gens 1-4
>>58924580If the city was eve half as expansive as the average GTA like it wouldn't have been a problem. The problem is that the "city" has a radius of like 200 meters and its full of copy paste buildings ontop of that
>>58924758PLA is modern pokemon though, most reviews highlighted how it was an "evolution" or a "fresh take" on the formula
>>58924576ZA being "the future" isn't fully realizedPokemon has always had teleporters and magic gates and shit, it might as well take place the same time as the normal titles.
>>58924785>direct the most well recieved game of the general>get firedJUST
>>58924578true, but it is worse than Arceus.I'd say it's barely a 6, maybe 5 and something, like 5.7 or 5.8.
>>58924847No stop you'll ruin the Zelda cycle narrative kalosperm have been cooking up
>>58924562Unironically the price
>>58924847>PLA is modern pokemon though, most reviews highlighted how it was an "evolution" or a "fresh take" on the formulaPLA came out in January 2022, the modern era of extreme anti-Pokemon hatred didn't really start until the Scarlet/Violet launch fiasco, and then escalated to a ridiculous level with the Palworld lawsuit in 2024.If PLA released today the internet would pretend it was an irredeemable garbage game and point to the low-res graphics, "empty world", and low-FPS Pokemon animations as evidence.
>>58925042Despite the shit SV gets people shit on SWSH even more nowadays funny how Arceus didnt get caught in the crossfire
>>58924562I was lukewarm on PLA, but I saw the potential that was there that could be expanded on. Then, in typical Game Freak fashion, they tossed out everything interesting in PLA because they despise actually iterating on things.I skipped Z-A because I felt like it was a return to more traditional Pokemon games instead of expanding upon the mechanics and ideas from PLA. Maybe everything I'm about to say it 100% wrong, but this was the impression I got from the trailer that made me skip Z-A. The catching mechanic, the best addition in PLA, seemed like it was completely gimped. It seemed like the game purposefully made it harder to properly sneak up on Pokemon in the confined city to force you into more battles. The new battle system seemed half baked, and the addition of online made me less interested. Them revealing they were locking some Megas behind online was also a huge turn off.I had less issue then a lot of people with the game having a modern setting, but it being relegated to just Lumiose City was retarded. I felt the maps in PLA too, but atleast there was a sense of adventure in those maps even if they were empty. How hard is it to merge the 2? Have a city like Lumiose be the hub where you select from 4 or 5 locations to go to and put a town or city in each map.Announcing DLC before the game released was the final nail in the coffin for me, so I will never play Z-A. I don't buy DLC, and I'm not playing an unfinished game. I miss the days of Game of the Year editions of games where you could get the game and all the DLC physically for a discounted price.
>>58925056>Announcing DLC before the game released was the final nail in the coffin for me, so I will never play Z-A.The controversy of that was so blatantly forced. Absolutely nobody complained when other Nintendo games like BOTW or Xenoblade 3 had DLC announced pre-launch.Digimon Time Stranger came out the same month as Z-A, and also had pre-launch DLC, and nobody mentioned that either.
>>58924758Also the games are shit
>>58925042>the modern era of extreme anti-Pokemon hatred didn't really start until the Scarlet/Violet launch fiascoholy cope
>>58925042>the modern era of extreme anti-Pokemon hatred didn't really start until the Scarlet/Violetretarded revisionism, the SwSh backlash was as big as the SV one, and acting like SV hate was some kind of hysteria when the game launched busted to all hell and looking like a roblox tycoon is crazyYou are likely indian, I will not reply further.
>>58925067First of all, people absolutely complained when BOTW had dlc announced before launch, shame you were in 4th grade and didn't see it.Second of all, BOTW and Xenoblade are A-list Nintendo titles, there was very little doubt that the DLC would be extra on top of a game that already felt finished, the same cannot be said for ZA
>>58925042>>58925042>point to the low-res graphics, "empty world", and low-FPS Pokemon animationspeople already did this at launch, the gameplay was just good enough that they ignored it.
>>58925056>I miss the days of Game of the Year editions of games where you could get the game and all the DLC physically for a discounted priceThose are still a thing just not for anything under Nintendo
>>58925100>the SwSh backlash was as big as the SV one,The difference is there were as many people willing to defend GFs retarded decisions back then with SV(arguably BDSP) most shills just gave up and only the most dedicated of bootlickers like Merrick remain
>>58925109Xenoblade isn't A list the games exist as trial runs for tech Nintendo wants to employ in their cash cows like zelda and mario in the future but that just makes pokemon look worse desu
>too on rails>boring>being in 1 city is uninteresting and uninspired>ugly>rank system is tedious and annoying and most of all unfun>side characters arent good enough to care aboutthe game sucks
>>58925148Xenoblade didn't start the Switch's lifespan as an A list title (although that's arguably because of the original's lack of marketing in the west and X being a Wii U title) but every Switch title dragged it further into relevance to the point where a port of X went from an impossible dream for Monolith Soft to a game that released. It's still probably not on the level of current Fire Emblem but even with the huge Metroid push in the last few years it's arguably still a bigger pillar than that. None of the games I listed scratch something like Splatoon's sudden surge in importance but whatever that games an outlier and I love that it exists even if I haven't played it since the Wii U days.
>>58925148it isn't some premier series of there's but through the switch generation it has definitely become one of their big budget and high profile releases
>>58925148>>58925180>>58925181Xenoblade is big, it's just that the average Mario/Zelda/Pokemon variant of Nintendo fan utterly refuses to play it for some reason. Same with Fire Emblem. Just look at the whining when Fortune's Weave was the closer of the last direct. A lot of XB and FE fans come from the wider JRPG fanbase rather than the Nintendo fandom.
>>58924562it just incel review bombing, ignore the misinformation
The game is garbage and forgettable
>>58925495kalostroon melty
>>58925100your just wrong though. Everyone loved Sword and Shield you fucking schizo revisionist
>>58925506sexless incel pedophile
PLAss was such a shit game. Legends: Z-A is perfect.
>>58925512>sexless incel pedophileWe dont sign our posts here
>>58925519you will NEVER get laid
>>58924562It all takes place in a city and there are no new Pokemon, only new Megas. Pokemon is game of adventure, exploration, and discovery. It should take place out in the wild and wilderness, in a wide variety of environments, and they should be full of brand new Pokemon.
>>58925042>the modern era of extreme anti-Pokemon hatred didn't really start until the Scarlet/Violet launch fiasco, and then escalated to a ridiculous level with the Palworld lawsuit in 2024.The modern era of hating Pokemon started with XY back in 2013.
>>58924576The time period isn't the issue, it's simply the gameplay and shit mega designs. Arceus had a lot going for it despite its faults, Z-A is still a shitty buggy tech demo for an active battle system even in its current state.
>>58926065I can smell your incelness from here, ickwilderness is ugly smelly and disgusting
