To simplify breeding mechanics. Imagine if, on top of EVERYTHING else, the species inside the egg wasn't definitive.

Though breeding shouldn't be so complicated in the first place- it should only be a way to make "copies" of pokémon for trading purposes. IVs, Natures and Egg Moves shouldn't be things you have to worry about.

Should certain unevolved Pokémon lose their ability to breed as long as a later stage can? What about an immature form, e.g. 1-tailed Vulpix, where a newly hatched Pokémon stays the same species, but cannot breed until a requirement is met like reaching a certain level or enough time has passed since it hatched?

With how common the misconception is that evo stage and level are age. One thing I think about is the different ways an evo line could be which directly goes against that misconception. A Pokémon that Evolves to one that looks more smaller, more cute and more younger-looking. I guess the problem is thinking of why an evo line would have developed that way in nature and why the evo has a higher BST in such a case.
