It's also missing main characters like Brock and Team Rocket. The St. Anne episode is one of the best from the first season and shows what a standard episode can be like. Plus, it ends with all the characters trapped at the bottom on the ocean which is a great cliffhanger.Most American shows aimed at the 8-12 year old demographic at the time were episodic or based on an already popular IP. Plus, anime was not popular at all. The Pokemon show came out before the games in the US, so it had to try and hook as many kids as possible from the start.
