Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I vastly prefer the oldest seasons of the Ash series when he was treated like the random kid he was and legendary Pokemon were mythical creatures that almost nobody had seen.When Ash sees Ho-Oh in episode one, it's not because he's the chosen one or anything like that. He was in the right place at the right time (in the middle of the woods after a huge storm, where there would usually be nobody around for miles), and seeing Ho-Oh reinforces his goal to learn more about the world and the Pokemon within it. Nobody even believes that he saw Ho-Oh because legendary Pokemon are actually legendary and few people even believe they exist, much less seen one. As the audience, you might even think Ash was just hallucinating because he just got the shit shocked out of him.Of course, later seasons and the I Choose You movie retcon this and imply Ho-Oh chose to watch over Ash because he's destined to become a master or something. But by that point legendaries had already lost any sense of mystery surrounding them so I guess there was no point in treating Ho-Oh any differently.
