I want to ask this from a more casual perspective, like making a good team in-game or to maybe battle with an irl friend, so I was wondering how you guys approach using this chart? It's hard for me to base a team around typing since I feel like I don't know how to cover effectively/make real sense of this chart. What's your approach/thought process? Use an example team if you want

I'm basically looking for a step-by-step for how to build a team based on types for a complete retard (myself)

I think of a Pokemon I want to use then think about another that would cover the first’s weaknesses. Then I find a third to form a “type triangle” like the starters or as close as I could to get one. Afterwards I add stuff like walls, clerics, wall breakers, sweepers, or whatever else compliments the team. Be mindful of double weaknesses

When I play casually all I do is try not to overlap more than 1 or maybe 2 types and that mostly does it. If you want to make an actually "good" team (for in-game or for casual pvp) then just make sure you have some mons with good defensive typings: Steel, Ghost, Poison, Fighting, Water, Flying, etc. The more you worry about the more there is to worry about. If you start considering every single type your team is weak to, you might as well get autistic and either learn some competitive knowledge or use a team calculator like this one:
https://www.pkmn.help/defense/team/
but if you search "pokemon team calculator" or "pokemon type coverage calculator" or any other variation of those concepts you'll come across more calculators you can use.

For casual, just use your favorites. Pokemon is stupid simple for the campaign. Battling with friends is tougher since skill is involved.

But if you want team-building baby mode, then pick a core of three mons that cover each other's weaknesses and then fill in the gaps. Fire-Water-Grass and Dragon-Fairy-Steel are solid. If you want to be spicy then Dark-Fighting-Psychic is an option. Make sure you have the ability to switch-in on predicted hits and that your mons have coverage.

Dual-types usually give you more to work with than mono-types.

It helps to know what strategy your team is embodying, but if you're going max-casual, then that might be beyond what you're looking for.

Use this: https://richi3f.github.io/pokemon-team-planner/

It shows you your defensive and offense coverage. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it should cover most of the types.

If you pick say like, three that form a type triangle but they're all dual types, how do you manage the secondary types? Just make sure the remaining three on your team offer some defense against/can counter the effective enemy types against the dual typings of the first three?

For in-game teams, I try to ensure that the team defensively is not extremely vulnerable to specific types.
Like having two Pokemon weak to Rock, and no Pokemon resisting Rock. Or having half the team weak to Ice, even if the other half resists it.
I like to use >>58958423 since it shows the tally marks and can easily point out defensive holes at a glance.
Only shortcoming is that it does not factor in abilities, but that is something you can do easily in your head since not too many Pokemon have those.
Like if I am building a BW/B2W2 team and two Pokemon are weak to Ground, but one of them is Eelektross, I am good since Eelektross has Levitate.
