>Let's make a route no one will ever visit because it's completely optional and it requires backtracking
I visited it. My favorite thing to do when getting Surf was to go revisit all of the areas I had access to.
>>58959698It's okay when Gen 3/4 does it!!!1!!!!
isnt that where you get larvesta
>>58959698Yes, I like having things to do after beating the game. Or depending on how curious I am for that playthrough, go ahead of time depending on what items I'd want. And besides, Waterfall's here, so it's not a completely wasted trip.
>>58959737Yup.
>>58959737Yes
>>58959698Those are the best routes
>>58959698It's okay when Gen 6/7 does it!!!!1!!!!
>>58959759Those have optional content? Really?
>>58959698Aaaaaaand you're the reason why they stopped making an effort.
>>58959762actually I can't think of anything in 6there's 10 carat hill in 7 and then gen 8 has that surf spot in route 2
excellent bait OP
>>58959725This u?
>>58959698>>58959715One great thing about the Gen 5 games is that HMs aren’t tied to badges, so you can trade yourself a Pokémon with Surf and go to Route 18 as soon as you get access to trading. Doing this could really spice a playthrough by not only be able to get a very early Larvesta egg, but the Waterfall Hm, too
>>58959930That sounds like fun.
>>58959698Isn't Crasher Wake chilling in this route or maybe that's from a romhack
>>58960571He's on route 47 in HGSS and route 14 in BW iirc
That's where I last saved the game.
>>58959698wahhh i hate optional content i hate backtracking i hate looking for the SAGES!!!
>>58959698>it's completely optional and it requires backtrackingso, a good exploration design unlike empty open world or mandatory straight routes
>>58959762The only worthwhile one in XY is Lost Hotel which is a highlight of an otherwise mediocre game. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Gen 7 really only doesn't do it on the second island (at least in a worthwhile or interesting way).
>>58959930>one great thing about gen 5 is that you can avoid playing it easilylmao
>>58959698>THE NEW GAMES ARE TOO LINEAR AND SHOULD HAVE MORE SECRET AREAS AND BRANCHING PATHS >BUT NOT LIKE THATYou people are so boring
>>58959698I’ll never understand the hate for backtracking, you get fly before you ever need to and even without it, it’s rarely that hard to move around on the overworld.
>>58959698A highlight of an otherwise mediocre game
>>58961231I think you posted in the wrong thread
>>58960679Yeah, all the best Pokemon games do this. Gen 1 let's you avoid all of the dogshit mid-game trainers, RSE let you avoid some of the tedious water routes and all the optional ones are way better than the mandatory ones, Gen 7's various little things at various stages of the game distract you from the next unskippable cut-scene for longer, and of course the BW example where you can skip a lot of it and have a fairly brisk game or play all of it and have a pretty substantial one. On the other hand, Gen 2's choice between two similarly leveled areas doesn't matter because you have to do both of them anyway and leads to you being overleveled until Blackthorn where you're about on par again and is the worst part of an otherwise great game, and XY are just a slog of nothing maps one after another with almost no breaks and when there are they're usually some degree of bad. Even the insanely tightly paced Chrono Trigger had some optional stuff over the course of the game and the requisite open end-game of many Square JRPGs of the era.
>>58961239No…looks like the right thread to me
