Only video games I'd played before Pokemon were Donkey Kong Country and I think Mickey and the Beanstalk was the title, at my rich cousin's house on their SNES.

Lotsa shit. Had a NES (and got a Zapper later) and a Game Boy, played stuff on my cousin's Master System (Alex Kidd was my jam), we had some flavour of Spectrum ZX (remember playing Bullseye and some shooter game on it with a joystick). Lotta crap, lot of Nintendo shit. Played abitta Mortal Kombat II and Mario Kart as my cousins were sound and let me take a turn. Got a Mega Drive in either '96 or '97 (unsure which year) too then bought Pokémon 2 days after Christmas in '99 and that was that. Been on the ride ever since.

I obsessed over Sonic games and my dad was a big PC gamer in the 90s so even though he never got me a Saturn or Sega CD I was playing all the other Sonic games and imagining what all the Sonic Screensaver music was (Japanese Sonic CD soundtrack was on the screensaver but Sonic CD was the US version) and making PowerPoint presentations of video game proposals. All on a CRT monitor that was military surplus and so big you would get vertigo playing Descent.Pokemon came along, I was into that for a couple years then I found anime porn, my neighbor killed himself in a fire, and the events of 911 happened in short succession, I never got therapy, and well here I am.
