When are we getting another cold region?
>>
Never because it means they can't turn it into a theme park region without stripping it of its identity.
>>
>>58978713
This doesn't make sense, all regions have designated "ice areas" anyway. Even Sinnoh and Galar.

Yes, think of it as the digital version of rolling coal. Yeah you probably gave yourself lung cancer and now don't know where you're going and your neighbors probably hate you right now, but a hypothetical libtard out there is probably mad which makes it worth it.
>>
>>58982111
>warm regions still have the possibility to have snowy areas high up in the mountains next to deserts and green forests
this is what makes every region feel generic as shit now, maybe some regions SHOULDNT have certain biomes, even if it makes finding a spot to put ice types or fire types or ground types harder
>>

It's logical and natural doebeit
A better criticism is Unova having a random desert(construction site) in it

a criticism of what? bad region design? yea putting a desert in the middle of your region is also bad region design.

Problem with Canada is that besides natives drinking themselves to death and white trash there's nothing to see there for real culture except snow. Scandanavia would probably be best or Russia when the war ends

It was the first game with a snowy mountain (Mt. Silver didn't have snow in Gen II), an entire snow city, and the starting town has some snow (in Platinum) and those were the most memorable areas of Sinnoh so people associate it with snow and winter, but really the snow is entirely due to Mt. Coronet's elevation, plus you've got an entire tropical island in the far north.

>>59005469
Its really not uncommon to have a snow zone in games. Paldea has all of that too.
>>
>>59005561
Paldea didn't exist back in 2007. Before Diamond/Pearl, snow areas had never been seen in Pokemon, which is why Sinnoh is associated with them so much. First impressions stick.
>>
>>59005578
Do you think someone might have brought that up already. Like, in their first post ITT maybe. Like explicitly mentioned that it came right after Hoenn and just feels cold by comparison despite not really being that cold.
>>
>>59005578
A billion games had snow areas before Pokemon DP retard. Literally billions.
>>
>>59005689
>>59005702
Yes, and I'm saying people associate Sinnoh as being a cold region because it was the first time snow was featured in POKEMON. I don't give a shit about unrelated series when it's entirely how Sinnoh compares to the other Pokemon regions and it was the first one to have snow. Plus the rest of Sinnoh is so forgettable and rehashed from Kanto it's all anybody remembers from it.

>>
>>59005718
I guess reading is hard for you.
>>
>>59005745
No, I'm giving a contrary opinion. People don't think of Sinnoh as a cold region because Hoenn was tropical, they think of it as cold because it's covered in snow and the main characters have scarves, and the entire game takes place in winter. It could've come after a temperate region game and it still would've been considered a cold region.
>>
>>58978713
every region is covered through pokemongo. the game is already over.
>>
>>59005740
maybe so, but New York state doesn't have a desert, an underground castle, a blue electric cave, a beach resort town, and towers to remember the dead.
>>
>>59005752
So in your previous post where you used caps lock to emphasize a point, that was just for fun and not for emphasis at all? Just felt like it? Because you emphasizing previous pokemon games right after I mentioned how it compared to Hoenn reads like you being illiterate and not understanding what I said at all.
>>
>>59005767
No, I emphasized it for the other retard who claimed because other games, not in the Pokemon series, had snow areas, Diamond and Pearl being the first Pokemon games to have a snow area apparently has no baring on what people think of Sinnoh.

That's boring as shit, the real world is boring as shit. The "theme park" design of Gens V-IX are way better because they give just enough taste of everything. Pokemon improved vastly once they stopped trying to simulate real world locations and just took minor inspiration from them instead. It's the only way to realistically justify the massive diversity of Pokemon species too.

Most of these could be excused due to it being a fantasy game, but I will say that in terms of a beach resort town, Undella Town, as an enclave for the wealthy that gets busier in the summer, could reasonably be seen as a parallel to the Hamptons and more loosely, the whole Undella Town/Humilau City area could be seen as a parallel to some of the New York City area's beaches, such as Long Island as a whole, or the Rockaways.

Pokémon has had designated "snow area" and "hot area" since Gen 1. Even the teraleak has Gen 10 with an ice island. Climates don't seem to matter since every region has microclimates of it's own for Pokémon of every type to conveniently live in.

There's maritimes in the east with lots of fishing industry and other sea related things. Lighthouses, small fishing villages. Montreal becomes more European with the heavy French culture there. The greater Toronto area could be home to giant waterfalls and a connection to Unova. Further west there's a lot of lakes, logging settlements, and jagged hills, as well as a place called Sleeping Giant Island which would work well as a secluded area for rare Pokemon. Into the prairies you have wide open fields and farmlands. There are lots of railroad towns and forts there, it's known for its intense thunderstorms and tornadoes, and there's also the northern cities in this region which would be cool for snowy areas, both tundra and woodlands, as well as humble little towns. Further west there's the more arid places in Alberta which would make a good desert area, and Banff National Park with its glaciers and mountainous terrain would be cool. West Edmonton Mall would also have to be adapted into something, too. It's the biggest indoor mall in North America, with a theme park and water park inside. Into the furthest western regions you have more extreme mountain biomes and local legends like Ogopogo. The Vancouver area would also be good major city for the Pokemon League competition. If there needs to be a highly customizable local cuisine, bannock is made differently in each province and can be topped very differently. I think Canada would have made an awesome region.

you can make a good region out of anywhere if you have the heart for it, I remember arguing with an anon about how the inland U.S. has "no culture" to make a region out of and I made a little moodboard for a South Dakota region
>>
>>59029838

The problem isn't that we don't get "cold regions" anymore, its that the snow doesn't actually impede you anymore, completely robbing the player of what makes it interesting.

I wouldn't. Tourism is their 3rd biggest industry so there's tons of tourist traps all over. The Blue Lagoon is a massive 'hot springs' that's entirely man made. Also roads are not straight and everything curves so good luck following a map.
>>
>>59028276
>Pokémon has had designated "snow area" and "hot area" since Gen 1.
And the early ones were less jarring and not magical bubbles of hot/cold sitting on the overworld. Your cold areas were Seafoam Islands (a cold cave), Ice Cave (a cold cave), and Shoal Cave (a cold cave). Your hot areas were Pokemon Mansion (a burned-down building), Burned Tower (a burned-down building), and the Hoenn volcano+desert. Finding a way to combine diametrically opposed climates into one small region doesn't work unless you make one of them very contained or outright artificial.
>>
>>59034304
>The Blue Lagoon is a massive 'hot springs' that's entirely man made
whats wrong with that? The Collosseum is man made, so is the Eiffel tower, if there's merit to the attraction it kind of doesnt matter

PLA had problems but it's easily my favorite of the switch's poor showing of Pokemon games (nuSnap is #2). If GF had decided to refine the rough edges and add more variety and depth to the research stuff the legends series might've been a real breath of fresh air for the franchise. Too bad they threw everything interesting about it away with ZA, but that's gamefreak for you.

Truth. Going with the standard "forest level, cave level, desert level, ice level, lava level, temple level." checkbox in every game has it's charm but in a game like pokemon where it's an ongoing series that's looking to make each region distinct the climate is a good way to differentiate.

Sure you could say it would make pokemon types uneven, but that would be part of the fun. The fire types being rare in the snowy region makes them special, and the normally rare ice types being commonplace would be a cool change of pace.

Sadly a lot of leftists have given up hope on fixing the climate at this point since we're guaranteed to breach 1.5C goals from the Paris Agreement in 2015, and things are going to get worse for a while. Meanwhile Trump is still trying to kill green initiatives and prop up coal because of the lobbyists paying him. Our main hope at this point is the right wing billionaires trying to burn down the planet for profit accidentally fucking things up so bad for themselves that fossil fuels become no longer profitable (we're seeing some red states trend in that direction). That and the fact China is going all in on renewables for the most part.
Probably wasting my time typing this here of all places but whatever.
