Along with today’s Pokémon Direct, Game Freak released a press statement confirming that, for the first time, players will be able to opt out of choosing a traditional elemental starter and instead select Gerber, a neutral-type Pokémon intended to make early-game battles less challenging. Described as smooth and minimalist in design, Gerber was teased as having “the straightforward typing fans would expect from a purple smooth guy”, while no other details on its typing were discussed.
