is this how sugimori would have drawn them in the 90s?
Drawn them? Maybe. Designed them? Absolutely not. They're too round, obviously designed with merchandise at the forefront of thought.
>>58980887>people actually like that thing on the right this IP isn't for me
It's annoying how bobbleheaded modern Pokemon designs keep getting. They were already bad by Hoenn and Sinnoh, but now each starter is like 50% fucking head
1 billion ram used
>>58980887No, those designs are not Gen 1-esque at all. You just put a shitty fucking filter on them
>>58980887No. Head too big for the water one.
>>58980956I really don't see what's so wrong with Gecqua.

>>58980887No, all you did was make them watercolor (not even in Sugimori's style)Generally gen 1 pokemon would for one not have a bobblebead body:head ratio, their eyes would generally be either Goku or black, and their bodies would have some more natural shapes. What I mean is for example, pidgey's feathers and feet, kingler's legs and claws, vulpix's snout.Vulpix is generally a good example of old vs new in the designs when you compare it to its alolan form. The alolan version simplifies its form (such as around the snout) and makes the head larger in proportion to its body. They'd all need tweaks to fit in more, especially the gecko. Look at squirtle and start over from there. Ironically the bird probably fits in the best, you just have to change the eyes and make the shapes a little less smooth.
>>58981189>Reread after postingI didn't realize I used generally three times but it's generally a good blanket terms
>>58980887>>58981108neither of these are remotely close
>>58981209Didn't even notice.
>>5898097410 million Africans DEAD
>>58980959What a weird time to say that, when only 1 of the 3 new starters is a bobblehead
>>58981654It's usually the white US redneck towns that these data centers are built right next to that become the first victims but my kids being born with three legs is worth it to piss off hippies
>>58980887I still like it, but this does emphasize why Gecqua feels off to me. The other two translate like a glove to this art style, but I don't really see an easy way to do that with the gecko. It would need actual design changes.
This is like the Pokemon version of those people drawing other characters in the South Park/Powerpuff Girls style but make them look the kids, even though the character is meant to be older and an adult. Also doesn't take into account the style change eras in South Park, so it looks like a 1997 character, or that the PPG are genetic freaks. This pic doesn't take into account the style of the early games or the Toriyama influence
>>58980887Even sugimori style can't save the AI bird's design
>>58982004Many such cases
