How does Game Freak effortlessly mog everyone else when it comes to creature design?Sure there are some hiccups like Samurott, but overall Pokemon are very consistently well designed compared to other franchises and fan art.

I think the best way to gain insight on this sort of thing would ideally be if you had access to thorough—really, very thorough—documentation and interview material spanning decades covering 'Design Philosophy'.What was the DePhi at the earliest stages of the original generation? Did the artists and other team members have a strictly agreed upon DePhi?How many iterations does a design go through before it becomes a 'Pokemon'?What separates a design you can whole-heartedly say is "quintessentially pokemon" from say, a creature that just happens to have the pokemon logo next to it?
