Given the scope of the game it doesn't make much sense to choose the water type, water types will be abundant early on, and same for grass too probablyThat's the thing about it, regardless of which you like more fire is just usually the best bet in all cases, they're much more rare and it's early access to a powerful typing

And yeah agreed, Fire types are usually pretty scarce (looking at you, Gen4) and thus more advantageous to pick overall. the only times I picked Grass instead of Fire were gens 5-7, where there are superior alternatives like Darmanitan, Volcarona, Salazzle, etc (heck even XY hands out a Megazard). It doesn't help that Snivy, Chespin and Rowlet are awesome lines IMO.

I'm pretty sure I went with Squirtle back in the day because Blastoise was on the box art of Blue, so nowadays that doesn't work anymore.I'm guessing I'd go for Browt since I loved birds as a kid. Now I'm more interested in Gecqua, I think the other designs are a little too simplistic, and Gecqua has a lot more stuff going on and I'm curious to see how these design elements progress as it evolves.
