Not much joy in picking a starter when you give me an option between nine fucking generations of it. Or the romhacks whose entire point is a "gimmick" but they didn't actually think about how the gimmick would play out, like picking Ditto as a starter but still playing the game like a traditional 8-gym setup. All that's gonna do is make me struggle to catch something else to replace Ditto.
