A third option I may experiment with is ignoring the boost if the Pokemon is close enough to the player's highest level party member. Like within 5-ish levels.

I don't mean to spam the thread, but yo >>59024149 do you see the Hell Mode team for the FIRST Aqua Grunt in the game? I've never seen shit like this in my life, this cunt has a Mythical, multiple final stage mons, and both an Unaware Clodsire and Ditto to check set-up cheesers. In Fidough's stream I saw some trainer mons had even more than 4 abilities too, This mode is heinous.

It's also awesome though, been wanting to run some multi/full mega teams with the "Permanent Mega Evolution" toggle on for a good while now and this might actually justify using it and not feel super unfair.
Not like there aren't trainers that use multiple megas in Elite Mode anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if Hell Mode ends up having multiple trainers with 6 megas and/or full box-tier legend teams. It only goes up to Roxanne for now anyways, so I guess we'll see.

Slowly making my way through Tectonic; I've captured every single mon in every single route so far, but I just got to some fuckhuge city with tons of optional areas and I can feel my resolve falter a bit (mostly because I don't have money to buy balls).
Also wish I could find another decent Radiant mon to swap in instead of Spritzee

Just a bit of progress posting, I'm still working on that Rotom Stereo I promised a bit ago. Getting the Stereo part is incredibly easy, but Rotom has some some surprisingly really annoying features to get right. I might have to rework the mouth for the hundredth time, took me a whole afternoon to get the eyes right by looking at a regular Rotom's sprite.
The front sprite will probably be finished by later today, if everything goes well I'll get the backsprite finished by tomorrow.

Pokemon Lazarus
My goal is to use only Dark or Ghost types (or monsters that evolve into them) and it is pretty fun.
This is the first hack I've played that implemented wandering pokemon in the overworld and it is really the best thing ever.
On Hard Mode it is a nice little challenge if you go in with an unoptimized semi-random team. Don't know if that will hold up or not, but it is good so far, 3 badges in.
The aesthetic is super charming.

The fetch quests they give you aren't the best things ever, but they do give some rewards for actually catching specific monsters or buying specific items. So that is nice.
I don't like the fishing minigame.

If you're that worried about it, take chunks from other sprites and edit them a little bit. Having a game to play is usually more important than having a really pretty game.

Not necessarily, just keep in mind stuff like shading, good color mixing and that all Pokemon related sprites are drawn in a 2x2 sprite format.
I think the safest and easiest way to get into spriting from personal experience is editing already existing sprites, or at the very least using already existing sprites as a basis for your work at first.
For instance, here was one of my first successful ventures. Mostly just a basic recolor with a few small adjustments here and there.
It's a simple edit of the FRLG biker sprite.
If you're looking for a pretty simple to use software for drawing or editing sprites. PixiEditor is really simple to use and it's been my go to choice for quite some time.

I like gen 2 aesthetics but RSE looked fine as they were, the "modern" GBA look is part of their identity, if it ever needed any visual overhaul it was to look more like FRLG, not gen 2. On that note, if any gens could use gen 2 demakes it would be every gen since 4 if only so they're easier for emulate except for Alola and gen 10 because the tropical settings fit the GBA aesthetic like a glove, but of course the lazarus dev is demaking alola with gen 2 graphics instead of gen 3 ones.

Spic devs have fallen off quite a bit in recent times. Opalo's dev turned out to be an AI jeet, who can't be bothered to draw shit for his games and has AI do everything for him, that's while also boasting he's this super cool dev who spends a lot of money on his passion projects that he totally carefully crafted and TOTALLY didn't use AI to do it for him.
Besides that shitshow, I've been binging quite a few spic games recently and they all turned to be mediocre to really shit, Berilo is okay at best, game is all style, very little substance, Revival was probably one of the worst "games" I've ever played, it's a fucking walking simulator with a story that moves at the pace of a speeding car and it's the most cringey anime shit ever, it spews a billion references in your face every 5 seconds like the dev thinks the player is a toddler who's going to be fucking riveted by keys being jiggled in front of their face.
And do not get me started on Old World Dawn, literally the Spanish equivalent of Sonichu.
There are good games like the ones you brought up and Realidea, Reminiscencia, Atlas and a few others. But spic games have largely fallen into complete slop territory.

Referring to how completely smooth movement and scene transitions are between routes. It stands out completely, and I want to know if there's any documentation or method to recreate that from the ground up.

Don't FR/LG have the same framerate as R/S/E? Anyway, you get 60 fps by programming the game to be fast enough to update the screen 60 times per second.

"All publicity is 'good' publicity" as they say, and Clover certainly has notoriety backing it, no shortage of Youtubers using it for views or new controversies either. Peridot doesn't have very many downloads last I checked, but it's a more fresh, authentic, "soulful", and complete hack than the vast majority out there. It was also made by a /vp/ regular, but something I could actually respect and share with others.

Randomizing the skin pallets of literal npcs (relevant trainers untouched) is not black face, gen 2's limited pallets and bright colours on darker skin tones are blown out of proportion here. What's the best way to replace sprites in a rom hack?
Right now I'm using Hexmaniac Advance to replace some Unbound sprites with some stuff I made. The process is kinda slow and it completely breaks the shiny palette.
Also HexManiac has some issues reading a bunch of Rom Hacks and letting me extract the sprites.
Finding a guide online is ridiculously hard when half the resources are from 2011.

There are only a few monsters that I think didn't demaster well.

With dark horizon this is now the third colosseum/gale of darkness rom hack I've played and I feel like I've figured out a problem they all share where they throw too many shadow pokemon at you it just becomes noise.

I assume they just want you to have a variety to team build from, and stealing shadow pokemon was the main gimmick, but again, so many are thrown at you right away it becomes tedious. I think a good number is 1 shadow pokemon for every 3 treainers you fight.

They should really just invest in expanding on the wild spot encounter tables, that way the player isn't swamped with the expectation to keep up with the sheer magnitude of shadow mons. I haven't messed with gen 3 sprites much, mainly because it's really hard to concentrate so much detail into such small frames, I've been mostly working 180x180 pixel sprites and a few bigger ones here and there.
I think the closest I've ever gotten to make my own gen 3 sprite was this custom lass sprite I was working on a little while back, it's still a 180x180 sprite though, but I tried getting simplified details down like the fingers on the hand. And there was also the Hex Maniac sprite I wanted to uplift but ended up completely reworking into my own custom project.
I might give making gen 3 sprites a try soon, but it's not my forte.

Do you think it's possible to make a good full-length ROM for a region with only 28 non-legendary Pokemon lines with 42 non-legendary Pokemon in total? No fire, dragon or ghost types.

After watching Japanese folks play Pokemon and noticing some of the names are the same between Japanese and English but most are different, I thought of making a region where the only Pokemon are ones who have the same names in Japanese and English, but the limited numbers and types I listed above are basically it for full evolution lines. Basically every Legendary has the same name between languages, though.
