I don't really see people talk about these games very often, and when they do it's usually negative.
>>
>>59024652
Because it’s generally just sagefag malding in jealousy over them
>>
>>59024652
Most of the praise these games got came within months of release, after that, the novelty wore off and people started complaining.
>>
>>59024670
this didn’t actually happen btw
>>
Sour grapes over Pokemon Z Version.

They're kind of shit that's why

Well I thought that was a pretty pathetic route 1, but that's before you even get a pokemon so whatever

>>59024734
Oh
>>
>>59024717
this, the games were fun on release and people got mad when additional facilities weren’t going to be added. ORAS didn’t help matters either which left a bad taste in people’s mouth

As someone who's only ever really played the Gameboy and GBA games, I don't even know which Pokemon are from this gen and which are from previous gens.

Anyways I would never accuse even the oldest pokemon games of being "difficult" but to give me a Free Heal companion through the first real stretch of the game feels like hand holding. And also having basically a second starter available right away, in the form of these 3 monkeys, also feels like a handout. But I'm looking for things to nitpick.

After only like 40 minutes, I feel I can't judge much. It's pokemon I inherently like it

This board is the only site that outright ever tries to defend these games, and the only defenses ever brought up are "WHAT ABOUT OTHER GAME" by an insecure autist who has nothing better to do than to waste time replying to every single criticism flung at it and pretend Gen V is your favorite generation. Teraleak also proves the games were intentionally gutted for Z version at this point, so of course the first games intended to get a third version didn't

Generally I just don't think Masuda's a good game designer, all of this games feel incomplete because he's planning the next game while working on the current ones usually and compromises heavily on the vision to satisfy daddy Nintendo. One thing people don't really bring up about the ambitious 97GS release is they clearly had more ambitious concepts for the game's presentation that was dropped in favor of making the game mostly look like generic houses. Goldenrod is a bigger map but it uses less of its space effectively and introduces these annoying grooves (likely "realistic" to Osaka, but not fun in a gameplay sense) while also having EXTREMELY generic building tiles that make it hard to determine what is what without the lazy Gym and Mart labels. The only real improvement Goldenrod makes on the West concept is adding the iconic Magnet Train, which was 100% only added because Osaka needs its train to be Osaka. HGSS fixes a lot of the presentation issues of Goldenrod, among other cities

Not only a result of a rushed, compromised vision but the result of a man whose vision was half-baked to begin with and he modeled Unova and Kalos after "research" (paid holidays) to try and turn New York and most of Northern France into Pokemon regions despite reeling back Japan into 4 separate games, let alone Japan STILL not being complete since most of Chuugoku and Shikako aren't accounted for
>>
>>59024652
They're mediocre is all but that can't exist on the internet. Everything must be "peak" or unredeemably terrible. No room for nuance
>>
>>59024870
>Teraleak also proves the games were intentionally gutted for Z version
and yet they're still good so it doesn't matter

>they feel incomplete because they didn't scam me into buying the game again
take your meds

Quod erat demonstratum
>>
>>59024877
>>they feel incomplete because they didn't scam me into buying the game again
This is the root of the issue, really. The game could have been a BOTW-tier masterpiece in terms of content and retards would still be screeching about it being rushed and unfinished simply because they didn't sell a third version. It has no basis in the game's actual quality.
>>
>>59024910
Clearly not true because the dual versions not only sell more nowadays, but have been outselling Masuda's slop for the last 10 years

>B-but they got worse!
Clearly not if the differences in how Pokemon is perceived now vs. the mid-2000s is THIS apparent
>>
>>59024652
Almost like it's shit and so barebones that there's not much to talk about huh? Makes you think.
>>
Are Sun and Moon better than X/Y?
>>
>>59024992
They are more fun and feel definitely more finished, but there's a lot of cutscenes that waste your time which get annoying fast. I'd still say they're better than XY because they're not as forgettable and barebones. At least SM tried some new stuff and had somewhat interesting characters.
>>
>>59024930
maybe you'd be right if there wasn't a jealous retard seething over it every other day
>>
>>59024992
The writing and difficulty is better than every other gen but literally everything else about it is worse than XY.

You just answered your own question...
>>
>>59024992
SM is a really mixed bag, where they improved some areas and dropped the ball in others. Ohmori was still figuring out what he wanted the game to be.
Like the graphics are fully scaled up, but Alola has less actual detail in its world design than Kalos did. Lots of random empty construction zones for a "Gym Builder" storyline that never reached made into development. Victory Road is also "in development", per the story and there's fewer trainers and puzzles. It makes the game feel somehow smaller than what they tried in XY's towns and cave systems. There's nothing like Lumiose City or the Mirror Cave.
It does have the respectable Totem Bosses though, which were a nice change of pace from Gym Battles. Some of the smartest Pokemon boss design.
>>
>>59025262
>where they improved some areas and dropped the ball in others

This is just Pokemon in a nutshell. One of the most potential man franchises ever made because it's a series built on two steps forward, one step back
>>
>>59024652
Simple reason - why would anyone speak positively about shit games?
>>
>>59026485
they’re not shit though
also good job putting it in the wrong field, sagefag. KEK
>>
>>59024693
It did if you actually look at threads and faqs from about 2-3 months post release
>>
>>59024865
When you mentioned second starter and monkey I thought it was another Unova shitpost until I saw the image
>>
>>59026508
>It did
no it didn't
the first 3 months of XY were literally the most fun people were having with the game, dumbass
>>
>>59026520
Majority lost interest after roughly three months. Only ones who remained were compfags and dex completionists
>>
>>59026508
Holy shit you're right. Though there was a brief resurgence around tge releases of bank and ORAS.

>>59026520
And pretty much every thread after that point was when people started losing interest and started critiquing it.
>>
>>59026546
>Majority lost interest after roughly three months
the majority loses interest in the vast majority of every game to ever exist in less time than that

>w-wait no actually check 4 months after release THEN people were magically suddenly criticizing it then guys trust me I'm definitely not just a newfag who discovered /vp/ in 2019
>>
>>59026562
Yeah and most games last more than a couple months.

>>59026568
I saw a lot of criticism roughly three months after release. I've been using /vp/ since it first became a thing and I know they liked XY initially. Weirdly /vp/ was one of the few places where the overall opinions remained the same for much longer. It wasn't until around Gen 8 where they started actively viewing it negatively. It's also when yawnfag started off, though interestingly they started with defending SWSH first.

>>

Because they're slop that singlehandedly started the dark ages of Pokemon. At least we seem to be in a Pokemon Renaissance, but then again after the likes of SwSh and BDSP, we can only go up.

>>
>>59024652
They're just that mediocre, what do you want to reminish about? The beginning of the game is Kanto nostalgia, then you have a good long coastal route before the second gym, after that it's just a blur until you see the falling houses animation, and that's it
>>
>>59024910
>The game could have been a BOTW-tier masterpiece in terms of content and retards would still be screeching about it being rushed and unfinished simply because they didn't sell a third version. It has no basis in the game's actual quality.
Good bait, 8 out of 8. I hated Black and White whe they released because so many of the designs were ugly but I couldn't knock it for feeling incomplete because it didn't, and I thought the faggots clamoring for Gray Version were retarded. X and Y needed a Z almost as much as Diamond and Pearl needed Platinum, both of those initial pairs of games were aggressively mediocre and I'm tired of casual Sinnohfags giving DP a free pass.
>>
>>59024652
Because these games are generally seen as a low point of pokemon.

The final game with Victory Road, and easily the worst one.
>>
>>59024925
>how Pokemon is perceived now
Its perceived worse now than it was back then, tf?
Back then it was light ribbing about the game, but now people will genuinely call you a cattle retard for thinking the new games are fun. They're not even wrong but the fact is that the games are perceived as lesser quality these days.

They did did some things great, some things terribly, but are utterly unremarkable and basically every aspect of them is mogged by one of the previous or following games.
>Like OldSchool Pokemon, dungoneering, gimmick-less battles, long routes, exploration, clunky mechanics, post game routes and battle facilities?
Gens 3 4 and 5 do that better.
>Like NewGen Pokemon, Character customization, overworld battling, story-focused content, generational gimmicks, QoL features?
Gens 7 8 and 9 do it better. The only reason to play XY is kalos, but if you REALLY want to play Gen 6 content you might as well just play ORAS because Hoenn is just a better fuckin region than kalos anyway.
