No hype for the future official definitive battling experience. It will have all gen gimmicks and feature all Pokemon. Where is the hype???
>>59031546>Where is the hype???There will be hype when they finally give us a fucking release date. The new VGC season starts in April btw, idk why they're taking so damn long.
The free version looks lame, and kind of crushed my enthusiasm...
>>590315461) I hate competitive players2) mobile slop shit to profit off whales
>>59031546Only the broken shillmons will be usable so who cares?
>>59031553it's so fucking hilarious that they're already announcing competitions for an unreleased game, in an unknown format
>>59031546It's completely inferior to Showdown in every category besides graphics.GameFreak flat flat out refusing to make teambuilding as simple as the fan made teambuilders is getting more obnoxious than DC continuing to not have Batman kill his villains or Donald Trump continuing to suck off Israel.
>>59031582We will no longer be restricted to what’s available in game and what gimmick that gen may have.
>>59031600You "can" use Maractus, sure. But using it means you'll likely get your ass kicked by Urshifu, Calyrex, Ogerpon, Miradon, and Flutter Mane.
>>59031633my one wish is for champions to have little cup or petti cup so there's a format where i can use my babies in and not have to deal with the uglymons of healthy meta
>>59031592That stuff requires months of pre-planning, they don't really have any choice. If they don't plan and announce the competitions now than there simply won't be any until way after launch.
>>59031546>It will have all gen gimmicks and feature all Pokemon.Actually? All I heard was mega evos for now, and I fear more dexcuts
>>59031825Yes it has every gimmick but the first season is going to be megas only.
>>59031825Ignore >>59031855It'll have megas and likely teras at the start. There WILL be pokemon missing and it will be dripfed over time, that much is confirmed.Dynamax and Z moves will come later
>>59031546>Where is the hype???It's a fucking pokemon spinoff title so we hardly get any info until it's actually released. We don't even know the full roster or all the ZA mega abilities yet, so we can't even theorycraft teams right now.
>>59031863>It'll have megas and likely teras at the startSeason 1 is already confirmed to only be megas. We don't know if they'll do formats with 2 or more gimmicks at the same time.
>>59031592Why couldn't the ZA starters have that art instead for their mega evolutions?
>>59031866They had mega and z-moves in gen vii, so they're not scared of a clusterfuck
>>59031592Goddamn there is no way to make that Feraligatr form look good.
>>59031873It looks a lot better when the hood is down
>>59031873With the mask down it looks... okay, but it's not recognisably a Feraligatr
>>59031880>370 hpGood lord, it used to max out at like 200 hp
>>59031880Why do they insist on the mantits? I think this actually doesn’t look terrible, but the chest looks so weird. It’s also somewhat grim that they keep insisting on having the shitty hood stay straight up in most official art.
>>59031546>and feature all Pokemonlol>>59031553They gave one, it's April for switch
>>59031546The hype is behind paywalls to have actual basic functionality and predatory FOMO battle passes that gatekeep said gimmicks.
>>59032004They confirmed on the japanese champions site that nothing is locked exclusively behind the battle pass. If there is a pokemon or mega stone on the pass it's always available with VP in the ingame shop.
>MUH MICROTRANSACTIONSMeanwhile I'm sitting here with several boxes full of shiny battle-ready mons waiting to be sent to Champions from Home.I don't know how anyone is complaining about this shit when you could be prepping for it now to skip the grind. Every mon you send over is a mountain of VP you don't have to spend unlocking and editing it on Champions. The gacha grindy shit is exclusively for mobile only shitters who deserve to suffer.
>>59032033Cool! Have fun having to constantly swap a selection of 30 in and out nonstop unless you pay up for a subscription so you can have bigger boxes.
>>59032057You can get a starter pack to get a permanent 80 slots. You don't have to pay for a sub to get more box space.
>>59032033It's even better now that we know IVs are auto set to max. You don't even have to bother bottlecapping mons that are going to Champions.
>>59031592I don't like Raichus bulbous powerpuff girl hands.
>>59032013>it’s not locked behind it so it’s okayIs that suppose to inspire confidence? Have you played any “free” game in the last decade? They gotta sell you on it so you can buy it somehow, so anything that doesn’t require a purchase just means there’s gonna be a catch>”you don’t NEED the battle pass, you can just get the mega stone from the store!”>it’s ludicrously expensive and would require untold hours of nonstop grinding just to get it>without it you’re already at a disadvantage, effectively multiplying the grinding needed>…or you could shell out the shekels for the battlepass and get it quicker
>>59032057nta but I dont see the issue with this either. I don't rotate between more than 3-4 teams per regulation and do all my testing on showdown. people are too tied to this being a potential showdown replacement, when it's just our version of master duel
>>59031546i am hyped but at the same time extremely cautious/even somewhat pessimistic as i noramlly never play any game which has microtransactions, especially free to play games with microtransactions to save huge amounts of time and/or get cosmetics, ESPECIALLY literally any mobile game ever...i only just want to play local events with people living in my country, maybe meeting people while playing the intriguing vgc gamestye against others, i HOPE free to play/pay to win/live service game/mobile SLOP bs will not kill this games chances of being any good for me personally, would gladly have just bought the game and have had it without bullshit artificial restrictions like only being able to have 30 pokemon in your box or similar bs, it is wha ti hated the most about pokemon go back in the day when i was still playing mobile slop.i am looking forward to it currently, anyone else with similar feeling?
I'm hyped but most of that is simply having a new format to play and anxiously waiting to see the new mega abilities. It's still yet to be seen if the game plans to be rich in features/content or is just going to play it safe and be a barebones ranked battle simulator.
I don't really care to pay any attention to this game if it is only competitive season-based matchmaking like Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet had. You could already play those, with no compromise, for years with official hardware. They haven't really made a case for it being appealing to me and I'd need more info to rightfully get excited, specifically>what is, if it exists, the single player of this game look like>are they going to move Online Competitions that used to have interesting movesets over to this game now? Scarlet and Violet sucked in this regard because all of the Online Competitions just had rulesets that were already being used in ranked with the exception of maybe the Spooky Cup coming back for one>above Online Competitions greatly contrast what they used to be, which were usually much more common events with uncommon rules>how will they treat people that have been paying for HOME for years when it comes to the microtransactions in this game? Will I need to spend more than just a one-time introductory price on this game, or can I use HOME points to get VP and other currencies?>do they plan on adding Triple Battles/Rotation Battles when gen 5 eventually is remade?>how are they going about competitive seasons and will they be wildly different from each other? ex- M-A is Z-A Pokemon, M-B is FireRed/LeafGreen Kanto Pokemon and potentially their cross-gen evolutions, etc. There's merit in just having an official mobile VGC platform, but my concern is that instead of justifying the price, they're just going to lock what was standard fare for the games if you put in the time to train things behind a new paywall. Their main competition is an open-source widely downloaded and archived as a result battle simulator and they need to realize this if they want to succeed.
>>59031546I'm excited for it but we don't fucking know anything about it. I want to know specifically:-Is there any PVE content?-How much do all the MTX/passes/subscriptions cost and what do they give you?-How do we get items?-It looks like IVs are all set to 31, but it's not confirmed yet.-How easy is it to transfer from Home?-Does training carry over from other games or do we have to train everything in Champions?-Is there a 6v6 singles option in private matches?-What pokemon are going to be available at lauch?-Are they going to add NFE's besides pikachu?
>>59031546my hype died when they revealed the p2w battlepass
Competitive pokemon ahahaha ho no no pfffft
>>59031881so it’s growin on ya?
>>59033216Autismus maximus
>>59033360It's Pokemon, them not catering to people like me who probably are autistic but don't bother getting tested is literally throwing money away.
>>59032033>battle-ready mons>he doesn't know
>>59033323No. The artist still needs to be browbeaten into quitting.
>>59031546>it's pay to win with mandatory subscriptions for box space AND has a battle passeveryonewill go back to showdown after a week
>>59034346?
>>59032033>>59034691From the website:>If Pokémon brought over as visitors know moves that cannot be used in Pokémon Champions, you’ll need to change those moves via training.>Training underwent in Pokémon Champions won't carry over to Pokémon HOME, but if the same Pokémon visit Pokémon Champions again, any training they received will be saved.>If a visiting Pokémon leaves Pokémon Champions and then returns in a different form, the results of any training that Pokémon had undergone in Pokémon Champions will be lost.
>>59034711Soooooo what's the issue here?If you send a mon to Champions that already has the correct moveset, nature, ability, etc you won't have to spend VP to adjust all that shit. There is also little point to ever send them BACK to Home since all future competitive formats will be played from Champions.
>>59031546The changes it made to how battles work killed all the hype.
>>59034826wut. the battle system is exactly the same as it's always been.
Anyone crying about box space needs to realize this game is strictly for competitive mons which there are only so many of. It's not an autism collectathon like the main games where you need a ton of box space for your pokedex completion, breedjects, and random shitmons.
>>59034914The box space is artifical problem created by GameFreak and limits how many different Pokemon you can hold to use in competitive. Some people want to use more Pokemon than just Incineroar, Urshifu, and Flutter Mane, and even use multiple of them for convience.
>>59033290It's like this with EVERY Pokemon spinoff game. They give us barely any info until the game is actually in our hands. Pocket had like a total of 10 cards revealed all the way up until people could play it.
do we know what pokemon are actually going to be in this game yetor rather has anyone actually been keeping track of the mons we already know aboutthe lists on serebii and bulbapedia are both out of date since new screenshots we've gotten since have mons like beedrill in them>>59034711none of these statements would interfere with anon's plan to pre-train pokemon for champions
>>59035192Just did a quick search of some other sites and they all seem out of date too, probably all just copying Serebiis list. I can't find a list that includes mons like Beedrill or Steelix that we've seen in the screenshots.I'm gonna ASSUME it will launch with every non-legendary mon that has a mega evolution, since they are shilling megas coming back so hard.
>>59031546>he future official definitive battling experience.that makes it inconvenient and annoying to battle and does not allow the same freedoms as the one you can open up in a browser.
>>59035192>>59035247Leading guess is that it'll have more or less every mon already in SV/ZA.
>>59035261Nah the roster is blatantly not gonna be that big on launch. Maybe every relevant non-legendary non-paradox mon from SV/ZA/PLA. We've yet to see a true shitmon or unevolved (except pika) get confirmed.
>>59035261sv alone is like 600 different pokemonthere's no way they're gonna have all those running around at the same time
This wait is driving me crazy.>>59035261Stupid take, they wont put SV rooster on Champions at launch, it would defeat the whole purporse of the fucking thing.
>>59035300Yeah they are obviously avoiding some of the giga bullshit Reg H mons on launch like Gholdengo. They need this first format to actually be good to draw in an audience.
>>59031598I don’t mind a BIT of it (I think a small amount of friction in the teambuilder may get people to think harder about their team comp and spend less time copypasting popular sets until they find an easy winner) but I worry that the balance will be horrible and the grind absolutely endless which will make it unusable
>>59031598Everyday a new Champions thread is created in this board I get more and more onto the idea of Nintendo closing Showdown for real and forever. Actually, can we DMCA or do it ourselves? Fuck Smogon and Showdown already.
>>59035404https://serebii.net/pokemonchampions/pokemon.shtmlWhat seems to be included at launch:- Every non-legendary Pokemon with a Mega (Mega Floette is also confirmed, idk if that's a mythical or not)- Possibly every starter line (Basing this entirely on the inclusion of Serperior and Empoleon)- Every Eeveelution- Every Hisuian Form of a pre-existing Pokemon- Every new evolution from the DLC of Scarlet & Violet- Every pseudo (I think the only one not present on Serebii's list is Baxcalibur, who should be included by virtue of having a Mega)- A wide selection of popular VGC mons (Whimsicott, Talonflame, Tsareena, Oranguru, Hatterene, Tinkaton, Dondozo, Tatsugiri)The remaining known Pokemon all tend to be very good, either great in single battles and/or still worthy of consideration for VGC teams. Milotic is maybe the only random Pokemon there who wouldn't be considered that formidable in competitive play. Pikachu is there, but that doesn't necessarily mean there's many NFE Pokemon available. Magikarp and Emolga have only appeared in the opening cutscene outside of battles, and I feel that does not necessarily mean they are available.
>>59035501This is basically high-level speculation, the warnings even say not every pokemon presented in the trailers/ingame pictures will be available at launch. The only pokemon you can 100% count being on it ATM are the ones they've announced being released as mystery gifts.
>>59035501You are just making wild speculations off a limited list of a few mons. They've already confirmed new mons will get added each season so there is no reason for them to go ALL OUT with the roster at launch.
>>59035404We are starting with megas I think it’s extremely unlikely Goldengo is not in because it’s not a sub legendary and it’s good enough to compete with megas and Donbozo
One thing I've hardly seen anyone talk about is how PP Up is likely removed. This is a significant nerf to stallmons and anything with a 5 pp signature move like Make It Rain.
>>59034914>It's not an autism collectathon like the main games where you need a ton of box space for your pokedex completion, breedjects, and random shitmons. That's true, but there are like 90 Pokemon now who can Mega. Plus the variant sets, X/Y/Z forms, etc. 30 boxes definitely isn't enough. Battle Revolution storage matches DP. I think they could offer at least as much storage as the relevant game (ZA).
>>59035691>30 boxes*30 slots
>>5903569130 is too little, there is no fucking way its not expandable ingame. I fail to see how this will fare in the future and so I'm inclined to believe this (TL;DR this is a fucking baseless speculation).Just think this way: Training and recruiting are the two bottomlines for this game, whales will want all pokemon (possibly multiple if they're able to), why would they limit the number of pokemon the whales can have?
>>59031592I just want to confirm Mega Feraligatr is getting Strong Jaw so I can write it off once and for all
>>59035749It will probably be expandable for free but gatekept unless you paypig your way (a certain amount of free resources required and/or a certain amount of IRL time each time you get it for free)
Can't wait for all the twitter screencaps of normies getting assblasted over their first experience with competitive.
>>59032816Genuinely better than it never coming around again. Yes it's dogshit but games are so fucking bad about it even this is an upgrade.
>>59036087Most mobile games are unplayable if you didn't start on day 1 because so much shit isn't available until a special banner or event comes up.
>>59034711This is like slightly gay but not fully soo it’s bisexual at best
Without dicksucking GameFreak, what exactly is the benefit of playing this over Showdown?
>>59036201Using Your Pokemon you’ve had with you over the years since 2003.
>>59036201It being an actual real video game
>>59036201Master Duel proved people would rather play predatory official games than free simulators.
>>59036201Playing Champions over Showdown proves to Gamefreak that there is genuine interest in battles.
Still going to play Showdown more
>>59037282Showdown has been going strong for over a decade, the battle frontier is the most requested feature in each new game, and stadium 1, 2, and revolution have already been a thing. So it's clear that a battle-only game could work and they should have made one years ago. I think Gamefreak was so blown back by the success of GO that they thought people only wanted to collect mons for the longest time.
>>59037327Interest in battles is performative and mostly just people wanting a metric by which they can consider themselves good at Pokemon that’s not PvP. How many people do you know who complained that Gen 9 dropped the Gen 8 feature of being able to host and schedule your own tournaments? I bet you didn’t even know it existed until now
It would be so cool if this had multiple regulations you could pick and choose from Actually now that I'm thinking about it I doubt the concurrent player count will be enough to sustain many play modesAnd even if it did there would be a solidified meta for each oneGod I just want to use my shitmons
>>59037366>Actually now that I'm thinking about it I doubt the concurrent player count will be enough to sustain many play modesYou'll be surprised.
>>59037374On launch definitely and it might go strong for a whileBut after like 3 months I doubt you'd have a fast queue for niche regulations if there's a dozen to choose from
>>59037377How many ladders are we talking about here? Apart from the one official one running I think 2-3 rotating ones would not burn the playerbase, also I doubt it will recede below 1 million players worldwide for the first year.
>>59037504There will probably be seasonal competitions with unique rules but they are not going to have permanent different ranked ladders based on Pokemon tiers because it would legitimize the “hmph this format isn’t real Pokemon” line of thinking
>>59037510Agreed. As local stores are going to run this as well, I guess they'll allow hosting of tournaments and that would be enough for the people that wants to run/play strange ladders. Even if you cant implement the rules ingame, just check the winners afterwards for coherence of their teams (if the ladder was babymons and the fucker runned calyrex, desqualify him afterwards).
>>59036201Can you compete in a locals or regionals with Showdown?
>>59031546This means they can focus on the Legends series and not restrict themselves by adding different gameplay and having whatever Pokemon they introduce play regularly on Champions
>>59037366In gen 7 ranked had standard natdex, VGC on its own ladder and a seasonal special ruleset all permanently available, not to mention the frequent unique online competitions. It's sad how far we've regressed since then and I don't have much faith that they want to give players fun alternative options.
>>59037366That's why the game has rotating rulesets and you're free to do anything in private lobbies.
