Why is anti-humanoid sentiment so common? Why do people have it in their heads that humanoid mons are inherently worse designs for Pokemon?

Pokemon have always come in all shapes and sizes. If they wanted them to all look and act like animals, they wouldn’t have had humanoid ones like Hitmonchan or man-made ones like Magnemite in the first gen. The design philosophy for the question “What is a Pokemon?” has always been “Pretty much anything.” They were always weird at times, or humanoid, or inspired by a human activity, or whatever else, even if it would be completely out-of-place in nature. Machamp and Krabby are both Pokemon, even though only one of them is animal-like at all. Machamp isn’t less of a Pokemon because of that.

I think it’s just design fatigue for starters.
>>
Hitmonchan, Mr Mime and Jynx were the garbage hated mons of Gen 1 and for a reason.
No one wants to raise a fucking dude with a mustache and a hat...
It's okay to have a few as dex filers, but making them starters evos is heinous

>Why is anti-humanoid sentiment so common?
Then why is lucario so popular and beloved to the point of getting shilled through multiple generations?
>>
>>59036619
Forced popularity
They were hyping him as the next big thing before he even came out
The highest rank in mystery dungeon was lucario rank which came out a year before gen 4 even released
He also got shilled into having a movie

At the time everyone hated that thing but the layer generation latched on because they thought it was organically popular

The problem with most starters is that they're designed as specific characters and not as a general shape. I can imagine multiple gardeviors or lopunnies existing, but it's much harder to imagine multiple Incineroars or Intelions existing. Lopunny's an interesting example since it's also a jobmon in a sense, but it's concept is reflected in a vauge and indirect way, whereas most starter jobmons are very blunt.

>>
>>59036581
you can't really blame them, they reject the digimonification that started with megas and continue with evolving to obvious human personification. but at the same time, this sells and pokemon is a dying series if they don't try something new. megas are a shit mechanic though. if you want to make a fourth stage evolution make a fucking fourth stage evolution instead of being wishy washy about it.

Pretty much, the problem is starters will never stop being humanoids because humanoid mascots are the most effective at appealing to today's youth in Japan. Pokemon famously does not give a fuck about what the older fans think because they'll just consoom anyway, so they stay on top of what's trendy with Japanese kids to make sure they sucker in more lifelong drones.
It doesn't matter if we've had humanoid starters for so long because for the kids, they've only just gotten into Pokemon, so the fatigue isn't real for them yet. And even if it does happen, they'll just find oldgen mons to grow attached to for that "freshness" of monstrous nonhuman designs, and thus even newgen kids become Kanto fans, furthering the cycle of promoting mons like Charizard and Gengar.

Meganium isn’t weak for a starter, it’s just that with the exception of Whitney and Chuck (and specifically Clair’s Kingdra), Johto’s gyms are nearly tailor made to be good against the grass type.
Generally, the harder the game, the more Meganium’s defensive stats and toolkit will shine. It’s quite good in Platinum, for example.

What a weird thing to say especially when Meowscarada is literally an Iberian Lynx, it could totally live in the wild.
>>59036590
Inteleon's problem is the stupid idle pose with the hand on his hip, he could totally live in the wild, he'd be a gecko climbing up trees slicking around branches or going into lakes and slowly snipe his prey for food. Natural born hunter.

>>
>>59036652
You haven't understood anything.

The problem isn't having humanoid starters. The problem is that for the past few years, all three starters have been heading in that direction instead of offering more diversity.

Especially since the designs used to be more subtle. Now, they just look like cosplaying humans because they feel obligated to emphasize overly obvious themes like sports, professions, etc.
Even Skeledirge, when he stands on his hind legs, looks like a guy in a suit with hair.

There are some that I find successful, like Decidueye or Greninja, which are really well thought out. And others that I think look like cereal box mascots with clothes, like Quaquaval, Cinderace, or Incineroar.

One humanoid in three per generation is more than enough.

Vocal minority. Jobmons like Meowscarada. Greninja, Cinderace, etc. have proven time and time again to be the most successful and popular. The only “animal/monster” starter who comes close is Charizard, who is dependent on nearly 30 full years of shilling and nostalgiabaiting due to its Kanto privilege.

>>
>>59036581
Unironically just a loud minority.
Meowscarada was insanely popular, people loved her but of course they don't go around screaming "I LOVE MEOWSCARADA SO MUUUUUCH! IF A STARTER DOESN'T LOOK LIKE MEOWSCARADA IT'S A BADLY DESIGNED POKEMON!"
Also the comparison in your pic perfectly showcases the mental retardation of these people, not all animals live in packs.

Its not about the pokemon being humanoid, its that its hard to imagine them as individual Pokemon of a species.
Blazekin looks like an individual member of the blazekin species, one could imagine its lifestyle, its habitat, its predation habits, and how it cares for its young. You can see in your mind 2 Blazekin setting a mountaintop grove alight during a territorial dispute.
Inceneroar is a character. It could not exist in the wild and you cannot imagine it as anything but a 1 of 1.

Think you might have a bit of bias there. Blaziken certainly has more animal attributes but it's still overwhelmingly humanoid. Seeing multiple of them together would seem more like a tribe than a pack.

Maybe I'm crazy but my headcanon has always been that 3rd stage evos were supposed to be something of an exception. Pokemon usually need to be trained to reach such a stage, live in an unusually harsh environment or have lived long lives or otherwise strange circumstances.
Even if the anime has shown packs of them the combined destructive power of several dozen level 35+ pokemon is a pretty scary thought.
