When did starters not evolving a second type got frowned on?
>>59043815when the Johto starters were monotypes and ended up as the biggest flops in Pokemon history
>>59043815Funny how no one cared when johto did it but now it's a problem Gotta show the hypocrisy of redditors lol
>>59043822I cared when Johto did it.
It's often boring. If only one mon in a trio is monotype normally nobody minds. If 2 are, the remaining type combo has got to be interesting. Johto and Galar have always been the least popular starter trios, and Unova has been right there amongst them, with only Emboar being dual-typed as the 3rd Fire/Fighting in a row.
>>59043822>funny how no one cared when johto did itdoes anyone have the poll that showed who the Kanto and Hoenn starters are beloved while the Johto starters completey flop?
>>59043822Nearly every “fix” or buff for them has them getting a secondary type
>>59043815BW, two of the three starters staying monotype pissed people off and the third one being the third fire/fighting starter in a row only added fuel.
>>59043815Lets really mix it up this time. Make the 1st evolution a different type pairing then the final evolution.
>>59043815Gen 2
>>59043815Gen 2: all monotype, generally not liked starters, despite Cyndaquil and Chikorita being 2 of my top 4 personallyGen 5: 2 out of 3 monotype and the last was the third Fire/Fighting in a row despite Snivy and Oshawott being 2 of my top 4 personallyGen 8: All monotypeIt's less that monotypes are boring but gens with monotype starters tend to go all in on it making it boring. If it was just 1 it wouldn't be bad. People love Blastoise and Sceptile
Gen 8 is the only time it worked because 2/3 of them got broken as fuck abilities that made them interesting anyway
>>59043815Gen 5.
>>590438222 out of 3 starters in gen 2 were the first mono type starters.
gen 1 you retard Blastoise was the only monotype
>>59043815esl>>59044501also esl
Monotype starters pretty consistently have better designs than dual type starters.>even that one?Especially that one.
>>59044533I do seem to have a preference for the monotype designs. Each stage rated on a scale of 10 then added together
Many of the monotype starters feel like they should have a secondary typing amd it's usually more interesting to have more STAB options.
