Why is there so much atroturfing to convince me the PSS wasn't dogshit? Everytime someone mentions the online in Pokemon sucks some mouth breather comes out of the wood works to say the PSS was better even though it had all the same problems of modern online
>>59044350Never had issues with. Sounds like a you problem
>>59044362>be says, choking down tearsNo one that's ever actually used the PSS believes you
>>59044350it was only good for the local multiplayer retard. everybody knows this
>>59044374>it was only good for easy access to <thing that's been in every pokemon since fire red came out with the wireless adapter, and still continues to be a thing in sv and za>What did he mean by this?
One of my favorite memories in the history of this whole franchise was playing XY during one of my breaks between lectures at college and noticing someone pop up on the PSS who was also playing the game sitting at another table across the room. So I challenged him anonymously and he was losing his shit wondering who I was while I was beating him in a battle. That’s the moment XY permanently became one of my favorite games in the franchise; it’s the only game since Pokemania playground days that actually emulates the feeling of you being a Pokemon trainer going around challenging people.
>>59044384Sword and shield did this with the ycomm. Back in summer 2020 I worked security at a private pool in florida and beat some poor kid on their yellow switch lite who's party was most likely the first 6 Pokemon they encountered
>>59044384>>59044405That's amazing. Pokemon is truly special.
It's incredibly easy to use, especially when there was an active playerbase. Shame Pretendo has been having heaps of trouble with it, it's one of the few reasons to actually play a Gen 6 game outside of bad Hoenn (which is a huge step up from XY).
>>59044428ThisIt’s sad how gen 5 couldn’t have something like this so I would actually have a single reason to play it
>>59044350You could write random stuff, it was fun
>>59044374>feature to keep track of the online satus of people you shared your friend code with or traded with >"it was only good for the local multiplayer"Anon, I...
>>59044350it was sweet at the time, first time Pokemon had good online functionality like that and there was a huge surge of people playing it. by modern standards, yeah idk if it holds up. you just had to be there.
>>59044447Ironically, if DS emulation ever gets to the point where local wireless can work well over netplay (LAN is the best you'll get right now, with opening up multiple instances on your computer and desktop sharing being the only real alternative) it might genuinely be better than it was at launch. Unfortunately Game Freak designed Gen 5 mutliplayer for the Japanese audience that was created with Dragon Quest 9, and even then nobody would play Gen 5 over DQ9. Thankfully B2W2 rectified it somewhat, Join Avenue is tremendously better than BW Black City/White Forest, and Funfest Missions are fun both alone and with other players unlike BW's Entralink which is worse than DQ9's multiplayer in every way that matters. XY's waste of StreetPass is tremendously egregiously bad in that regard, but ORAS brought forward Gen 3's connectivity concepts in a brilliant way so even with the dead online a hacked 3DS do some neat StreetPass stuff. Man, StreetPass was great, thanks DQ9 for that cultural impact even if I wish it was more co-op multiplayer turn-based RPGs (all we got was 4 Heroes of Light on the same system and basically fucking nothing since).
>>59044350There was nothing good about XY's bottom screen.
>>59044498>Ironically, [MASSIVE COPE]Yeah, it’s a shame Gen 5 couldn’t have multiplayer as functional as XY and the C-Gear was just a pointless waste of space 99.9% of the time.
>>59044507At least it was designed for a hypothetical audience. XY's StreetPass wasn't even designed, it's just a waste of a StreetPass data slot.
>>59044507>Yeah, it’s a shame Gen 5 couldn’t have multiplayer as functional as XY and the C-Gear was just a pointless waste of space 99.9% of the time.Gen 5 online was a test for Gen 6 online
>>59044350What the fuck is this thread? Did you not use it, you're showing the wrong menu for one, it is the fact is showed your friends that were online at all times on the bottom screen, and that it showed various randoms and people you'd played with in the past. Its the only system that let you easily play with friends without having to pre-arrange the session through discord (skype or steam or MSN at the time) or some shit, you could just naturally play the game at any time. Then Sun Moon comes out and you have to do whatever the fuck festival plaza is and its hard to play with your friends even when you DO have it arranged outside of the game, and future titles never returned to XY's level of online. This was on purpose of course, because XY made it easy for you to make friends through playing the game and then play with them again, this led to it being an avenue for grooming or predatory behavior, since you could meet people entirely within the game and keep contact with them. Modern systems are designed to make it nearly impossible to have any sort of long-term contact with anyone you play with, needing to basically bring your social connections into the game from the outside.
>>59044350Because it was great. Made the game feel like a psuedo-MMO where it just supplied you with random players to interact with. First game to have the wonder trade too which I loved.Appreciated the kinda-messaging as well. Was the last time I talked to one of my good internet friends since we'd both stopped playing our actual MMO (maplestory) but had each other on the 3DS, so we talked a little over it. Hope you're doing good out there Wolf broWhich made it horribly fucking baffling that they removed it in SM. Like what the fuckOf course it's useless now, but at the time.
>>59044365>be saysUh oh she was so fast to make a butthurt reply that she can’t type correctly!
>>59044350XY were shit games, but this is their one good thing.
>>59044350XY were great games, and this was just one of the things that made them great
>>59044374I had quite a few memorable trades with random passerby's, one of them even gave me a Meloetta. Was probably genned but still, back then I thought I'd never be able to get one.
