What the fuck is a Stone Edge, exactly?

>"The user stabs the foe with sharpened stones from below. It has a high critical-hit ratio."
In the anime it either creates a ring of sharp, spiky rocks, which are then flung at the target, or sharp stalagmites are summoned out of the ground to skewer the target.
>>
Summoning sharp stones to stab the opponent from above. Usually depicted as individual stones shooting upwards from the ground or several stone spikes violently jutting upwards from the earth.

I don't think Stone Edge is actually based on anything. The idea behind it is blowing chunks of sharp rock up from underneath the target.

It started out as the former, but changed to the latter from XY onwards.

Stone edge and rock slide being physical moves was always so retarded

It's because the animation in the games added those spikes coming out of the ground with XY as well..
The in-game text was always just a variant of "The user attacks by stabbing targets with sharpened stones.", which is fairly vague about what actually happens.

this is bait
>>
>>59052611
Being hit by a fucking rock is a physical attack.

Rock-type razor leaf
>>
>>59052611
Rock is almost always a Physical type anyway; discounting gimmick moves there's only three standard Special Rock-type moves:
>Ancientpower
>Power Gem
>Meteor Beam
Two of these are laser beams!
>>
>>59052611
Most rock-types are physically oriented.

I think it's a relatively non-specific attack, that just, as it states, stabs or slices a target with sharp stones.
If the pokemon has a body part that can be used for this, it uses it.
If it can't, it's employing the earth controlling abilities responsible for moves like Earthquake and Rock Slide to form a spike of stone and use that.

Kind of like how moves like Horn Drill can use a wide variety of stabby bits, not just "horns" Stone Edge is a very pragmatic move, not so much a prescriptive one.

btw that "from below" part was added by the english localizers for whatever reason. It got removed again in the translation of SV, probably because someone looked at the Japanese text and realized it never said that.

Just make Ancient Power have a 1.5x boost in power (60 BP to 90 BP) if used by a fossil Pokemon.

Omastar and Aurorus would primarily benefit from this while Archeops can make use of it if used as a mixed or exclusively special attacker.
>>
>>59052964
Just give it like 80 base power
The omniboost effect is strong, but nothing that would be choosing to use it is strong enough to worry about it.

What exactly is the connection between Aerodactyl and Tarragon (the best herb)?
>>
>>59053256
The first part of Pterodactyl sounds similar to tarragon, I assume.
