Like it or not, the bar for "holy shit, what is powercreep becoming" will continue to shift as the franchise continues to move forward, but as it currently stands, Gen 7+8 is where our bar for this ongoing of powercreep stands.
Gen 7 gave us Incineroar, the perfectly engineered VGC starter, Ultra Beasts who started the trend of "non-legendary bastards with an obscenely good ability and minmaxed BST spreads" that would be succeeded by Gen 9's Paradox Pokemon, and Gen 8 introduced DLC, which allowed them to get away with creating even more powerful Pokemon than usual under the pretense of "someone's gonna need to pay extra so this one can be made obtainable".
