>we don't need cosmic type! other types cover it already!

Yeah yeah, whatever. True. But that argument doesn't matter; it's missing the point. So what? We don't "NEED" anything, and something "being covered already" does not matter, because Game Freak can just reclassify. They can very easily just say "all the cosmic/astral stuff Psychic Types have is now being split and branched off as its own separate Type". Psychic Type ALREADY covers waaaaay too much shit. Retyping some Psychic Types to be Cosmic Type instead now would (mostly) be a smooth and easy thing. Practically frictionless.

All that matters is that I simply want it. I want Cosmic Type. And it CLEARLY could work in this franchise, and work very well... So why not?
>>
>>
Game Freak has historically introduced new types to nerf overpowered ones and help underpowered ones

i.e. Steel and Dark both resist/are immune to Psychic, but are weak to types like Fighting, Fire, and Bug, which sucked in Gen 1

Or how Fairy was made to nerf Dragon but also give Steel and Poison more offensive use

Adding a type just for the sake of it is retarded. You're retarded.
>>
>>59057118
You'll get Sound type and you'll like it bitch

Alright.
Let's play ball.
What existing pokemon become Cosmic?
What existing moves? No, status moves don't count, nobody cares that Agility is Psychic, I mean damaging moves. What are some damaging moves for our new and existing Cosmic pokemon.

What types does it beat? What types resist it? What types does it resist? What types is it weak to?
What is the impact on the overall type chart once we factor these things in?
Does the type as a whole have any effects?
What stat trends does the type have? What's the held item type booster? What color is the type associated with? What existing design niches have to be avoided in the future, unless the pokemon is explicitly intended to be a Cosmic pokemon?
What does a pure Cosmic type look like? Are there any existing pokemon that are pure Cosmic?
What are some added effect trends, associated status conditions, or associated contest stats? What effect would a Dynamax Cosmic move have? What would the Cosmic shitty hat look like? What would it look like for an existing pokemon to get a Cosmic regional variant or mega?

>cresselia = cosmic

Comet punch makes no sense, because it's japanese name is effectively Consecutive Punch. It's literally the move Saitama uses, Consecutive Normal Punch. Comet Punch IS a decent name for a cosmic move... because in Japanese, Meteor Mash is called Comet Punch.
Ancient Power is tied to fossils, not space. In fact, Ancient Power is almost the thematic opposite of cosmic. Anti-cosmic.

We might be getting somewhere with the other two though.
Nobody actually cares about Doom Desire (Including Game Freak since they removed it from the game) but changing Jirachi's signature move, means you are committing to changing Jirachi. I'd also make the note, that "damaging light" as a concept, IS something Steel does, between Mirror Shot and Flash Cannon, so changing Doom Desire means we need to question those two as well. Which, of course, leaves Steel with no special moves.
Meteor Mash is a bit iffy to be cosmic, but if swinging a tail "like" a wave is good enough to make Aqua Tail a water move, that's good enough here I suppose. The real question though, is Metagross. While other pokemon can use it, the move has always been associated heavily with Metagross. Is Metagross being retyped to Cosmic, then? Or is it just losing Stab on a move heavily associated with it, like Lucario and Aura Sphere?

Cosmic can work as a parallel to Fairy and Psychic. Similar to how Rock, Ground and Steel have similarities. I also propose an parallel to Flying with Wind, though Wind works just as good. I think a new type is coming in Gen X. It could be one that no one expects.

I think the creation trio should have dragon replaced with cosmic too. None of them even look that much like dragons
>>
>>59057118
The reason space-related Pokemon are usually Psychic-Type isn't because Psychic = space, it's just natural selection. The optimal way to navigate in a vacuum would be to simply telekinetically move yourself, and psychic barriers would easily protect you from space debris.
Cosmic type is as nonsensical as a type like "Wave" or "Rolling" would be.
>>
>>59057118
Cosmic > Sound

Sound would be a stupid addition and I'm glad they'll never do that. Cosmic makes the most sense of all proposed "what if they added a new type" types because there are a lot of Pokemon that it fits really well who often just get Psychic slapped onto them for no reason as a placeholder for Cosmic like the SM legendaries, Origin trio, Jirachi/Deoxys, Clef line, Ultrabeasts, and some others that would be good. Some existing moves could also be changed to Cosmic type where appropriate.
>>
>>59057118
It's has been said so many times that Cosmic type is themetically identical to Stellar type. GF has already granted your stpuid wish in gen 9.

>>59058429
Stellar sucks dick and is a dumb gimmick.

I don't have a ton of ideas for Type interactions for Cosmic Type to be honest, and yes that does weaken the case for it overall. I've given it a good think tho.

Defensively
>cosmic should definitely be weak to psychic, and not very effective against psychic. aside from this being a very nice buff, it goes with the general idea of psychic/telekinetic/alien beings generally being dominant in sci-fi settings. they can manipulate the fabric of shit (which is bad for the cosmic type, because it IS the fabric of shit)
>I like the idea of cosmic being weak to grass a lot. it feels more right the more I think if it. it would also be an excellent buff, but moreover it's just about cosmic creatures not being native to this ecosystem. they are aliens, they have no natural defense mechanisms for the kind of life we have on Earth. I know that if other planets in the galaxy have life on them, then they surely must have some form of xenoplants yes.....but grass type just feels like it specifically represents the unique kind of life here on earth. grass type represents mother nature itself. OUR particular brand of earth life is something an alien has never encountered before, and thus they are in new hostile territory and wouldn't be able to handle if it our brand of mother nature started attacking them.
>cosmic should resist fire and ice, because the vacuum of space is airless and already extremely cold. an extreme temperature change isn't going to phase a cosmic being.
>dark should resist cosmic. yeah whatever it's "evil type" but it also clearly represents a kind of pitch blackness. not shadows. I mean deep black, like the void......like space. cosmic types might manipulate the stellar voids of outer space, but that's not really going to phase a dark type. the dark type is already intimately familiar with its own inner void, the darkness within.

Other Types Cosmic should definitely 100% interact with, but I'm just not entirely sure how: Bug, Water, Normal Dragon.
>>
>>59057965
Ursaluna being Cosmic is reaching
>>
>>59058625
Make it like a super Dragon type.
Strong against nothing.
Resisted by only itself.
Resists all the terrestrial elements like Fire, Water, Ground, Flying, Electric, Ice, etc.
Weak to Bug and Poison because terrestrial microbes would kill them just like that Tom Cruise movie.
>>
If GameFreak can reclassify, why have they never corrected the spelling of Feraligator? Why are the two sexes of Nidoran still classed as two different Pokémon?
>>
>>59057118
Alola was THE region they could have introduced Cosmic, having a sun/moon theme AND ayylmaos. Since they didn't do it then, they sure won't do it after.

JUST GIVE US A SOUND-TYPE JFC PLEASE!!!
>>
>>59059642
There already is a Sound type, it's called Normal. Special Normal, to be precise.

You people are so anti-fun I swear
>>
>>59057118
You can use this logic to justify adding the Lava type or the Fist type.
You CAN add them, but adding them is fucking RETARDED.
You’re completely shaking up the type chart and meta and the identities of Pokemon, all for off-brand Psychic.
Also watch this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceedghSTHIA
Just replace Sound with Cosmic
>>
>>59057118
No, it doesn't work. "cosmic" doesn't fit any element or physiology. Common pokemon related to space are rocks for obvious reason, psychic or fairy because mysticism, or just any other type because space isn't special.

>>59057829
Sound type is just as retarded, its a battle mechanic like making contact. There isn't any intricate magic or physiology associated with sound that doesn't already apply to every other type. If anything, sound is lumped into "normal"
>>
>>59061107
>cosmic" doesn't fit any element or physiology

Your lack of imagination is your own problem bro, not mine or anyone else's

>>59061041
>You CAN add them
yes

>but adding them is fucking RETARDED
That's literally just your opinion. Splitting Cosmic off of Psychic is obviously a way more legitimate idea than splitting Punch Type from Fighting, pretending otherwise is disingenuous.

I'd love for anyone here to refute >>59060512 btw
>>
>>59061119
Splitting Cosmic off from Psychic would exactly be the same as splitting Laba off from Fire. You’re taking a small portion of 1 type that’s way too specific and is just basically that type its based off of.
>>
>>59061119
>Your lack of imagination
What a petty comment. I've re-written the type charts many times over my life and "Cosmic" would never fit in this series. You aren't original, btw, cosmic, space type, its all been postulated before.
>>59060512
Rock and Ground make sense though? I wouldn't put sandshrew in the same category as Geodude or Onyx.
>>
>>59061119
And as for
>>59060512
Rock and Ground are distinct enough from each other thematically and especially in gameplay. As Ground has more to do with being the ground you walk on. It’s why it covers things like mud, sand, land masses, bones, digging, and a low profile attack. Meanwhile with Rock, you get the minerals side like diamonds and rocks, as well as the “toughness” side like how Terrakion is tough as a rock.
More importantly, they are distinct in gameplay. Only sharing 3 type match-ups in Grass, Water, and Poison. And its not like the type chart for both are random. It makes perfect sense for what they are weak to and strong against. Like it wouldn’t make sense for Flying to be weak to Ground when Flying is flying over their attacks, but it makes sense for a bird getting smashed by a rock.

Unless you can expand apon the themes of Cosmic (which is just outer space), as well as give Cosmic a different type chart from Psychic that makes sense (ie. Cosmic is immune to Fairy just for rebalance. It has to make sense), it shouldn’t be considered.
