When gen 5 came out I was one of the people that jumped on the bandwagon thinking that a lot of the new pokemon designs were bad or lazy, but replaying these games I've started to grow fond of a lot of the designs.I don't actually think there were any bad designs that gen except original tornadus, thundurus, and landorus
The monkeys are just cosplays, other than that i agree.
gen 5's my favorite gen but I do think watchog and trubbish/garbodor are pretty unforgivable.
Looking at the list, i notice they're arranged in the order at which you can obtain each species in BW, it's not 1:1 because of semi legends and Victini but the rest pretty much holds.
The only Pokemon design that I actually hate is that stupid penguin from gen8
I think it's 50/50.But there are some really high grade ones mixed in there, and as the largest gen, the sheer volume makes up for the iffy hit rate.
For the most part, I agree. None of these designs are lazy, per se. Even the more "low effort" ones have some degree of thought and cleverness to them. But I wouldn't say none are bad. I've always hated the conkeldurr line's gross veins.>>59058415Never got why people hated the garbador line. Admittedly it's funny that the the first region set in America introduces the trash pokemon.>>59058454Based. G8 has some of my least favorite designs in the whole franchise. I really hate some of the fuckers in G9 too.
I still think a lot of them are ugly but I've gotten used to them thanks to fangames.
>>59058415>>59059143Trubbish/Garbodor hate is crazy cause they're just mirrors of Kanto's Grimer/Muk, and even more funny cause Trubbish is considered cute and adorable nowadaysBut you could apply that to a lot of that list. The only ones I personally don't like are Unfezant/Watchog/Monkeys
>>59058386Gen 5 was fine if not outright good in the mid-to-late game Pokémon design department. Where it sucked is its early game mons and legendaries, which is a problem since those are traditionally THE most important designs to get right for marketing a game. The core design philosophy failure of gen 5 is that it tried to replace tried and true kanto mons with lazy cheap knock offs, but when it was making Pokémon that don’t really have an archetypal comparison to gen 1, it usually succeeded.
