Why is there a healing NPC in every route and cave
>>59059212Because they didnt want to be as scary as KANTO
>>59059212To heal you duh
>>59059212Unova wasn't a shithole like the Japanese regions.
>another sharty threadDon't you people have some troons and zoophiles to dox? Do that instead.
>>59059216*KINNOH
>>59059212Because this was the beginning of the enshitification of the franchise where the game held your hand every step of the way.
>>59059212oops posted the wrong image sorry
>>59059357>Burgers need welfare healing constantly to stay aliveAt least they got that part right
>>59059405Actually I think gen 6 had less free healing than gen 5 did
AH NOOOOO I WAS FORCED TO OPTIONALLY HEAL MY TEAM. I MISS WHEN I HAD TO WALK ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE POKEMON CENTER LIKE THE GOOD DAYS. MAKE POKEMON MORE TEDIOUS
>>59059212Because a lot of the routes were pretty long and/or a pain to get back to if you wanted to go heal up. I liked the longer stretches.
>>59059392Didn't gen 4 start it with Cheryl and Marley and the others? I swear they healed you after battle, but it's actually been 19 years so maybe I'm misremembering.
>>59059212Just don't use them. Why do you hate more options
>>59060402>>59060408Typo aside, you can't not use them unless you remember which npc in particular does it, because they battle you first and you can't avoid the heal post battle.
>>59060386They did, yeah.
>>59059856this but unironically
>>59060386They did, but they weren't on basically every route. There were maybe 3 total routes where this happens in DPPT. In BW/BW2 the nurses are basically everywhere.
>>59060462It's more memorable because you have Cheryl for eterna forest very early in the game and she fully heals your pokemon so even poison isn't an issue (the only time in Pokemon games that it matters is early game) and literally battles for youThe only healer I remember in BW is like the desert resort one because that's miles away from a center
>>59060413right but people here don't play the game so they don't know that, they just got with their smug >just don't use it huehuehue
>>59059856You can keep making arguments against making the player do any amount of work in any game until you just have a movie with qtes. I'd argue that if healing was already made easier you may as well go the whole way and heal the player after each battle automatically, because why bother making them walk 5 steps to the npc each time if it's not 500 steps anymore. It becomes a snowball effectJrpgs in particular aren't cut out for mercy to the player because it exposes their flaws of being boring slow and annoying spreadsheet simulators. At least if you have bullshit difficulty in them it keeps you on your toes and you forget about the other minutia
saves you the long run back to the pokemon center; don't pretend that isn't what 95% of players do anyways in pokemon anytime their team is kinda low or dead
>>59059212To save time so you don't need to fly back to a Pokemon Center to heal.
>>59060596i would much rather have tougher battles and automatically heal after each one than the current system of piss easy battles where the only issues are minor chip damage and running out of pp due to all the fodder they throw at you
To provide a challenge for the player to clear in order to heal in the area, instead of backtracking for the free heal (or in some cases, there just being a free heal).>>59060462There's 8 NPC trainers that over the course of the entirety of BW that could potentially heal you, including post-game Big Stadium and Small Court ones that don't actually heal you. If you're complaining about the one-off heals during cut-scenes I get you. But you can check the trainers themselves just by hovering over the names here.https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nurse_(Trainer_class)https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Doctor_(Trainer_class)
>>59060762>To provide a challenge for the player
>>59060720On one hand, the Xenoblade system works more or less fine. On the other hand, resource management is an important thing to consider as a gameplay element, Battle Pyramid is the big one with a significantly worse version being the Black Tower/White Treehollow where funnily enough the only way to heal is in fact the NPCs (this is where their impact on the game design is the strongest). And on the third hand because you're a mutant freak, there's the kind of people that hoard every item in case they need it later and beat the game with 99 of every item, so yeah maybe resource management is gay.
>>59059212So you don't have to leave to go heal. Especially useful for when you don't have Fly yet.
>>59059212To make up for the lack of health care in the real world counterpart
>>59060779Yes, beating an NPC with your party worn down from several previous battles is in fact more of a challenge than walking back to the Pokemon Center and getting a free heal, or using the items in your inventory. It's not tremendous, but it's like those little puzzles in Kirby games where you get those stars that give you an extra life if you collect 100 of them, you're grading on a curve when it comes to easy baby games.
>>59060801>getting free healing is in fact more of a challenge than not getting free healing
>>59059212They were pretty nice in the Volt White romhack, if the base game were more difficult they'd be a welcome addition.>>59060796It'd be pretty funny if they charged you like 50000 Poké Dollars after using their healing services, since you lack Poké Insurance.
>>59060812
>>59060809What's free about having to beat a trainer?
>DPPt has NPCs that fight and heal you after every battle, this is okay>Gen 5 has a few healers on longer routes/caves, this is bad game designKids are too retarded to buy potions and status healing, apparently.
