What's the worst route in all of Pokemon?
>>59060729They're fine for what they are for the most part but I never understood why water routes are called "routes".
>>59060729All of Kalos
>>59060729whichever one requires whirlpool, rocksmash, rock climb, cut and flash together to navigate.

All of Galar
>>59060729half of hoenn
>>59060729A quarter of Alola
>>59060729Is this shorter than Kalos Route 1?
Routes and regions in older games are fundamentally different in design than in Gen V+. Gen V+ tends to useSETTLEMENT > ROUTE > SETTLEMENT > ROUTEwith occasionally a dungeon following a route. Gen I-IV are more likely to use multiple routes and maybe a dungeon between settlements, like Pewter City has Route 3, Mt. Moon, and Route 4 between it and Cerulean City. Even Route 23 is only part of a sequence that takes you from New Bark Town > Route 27 > Tohjo Falls > Route 26 > Victory Road > Route 23 > Pokémon League. In comparison, there's Kalos with Vaniville Town > Route 1 > Aquacorde Town. It's common for there to only be one route between the first and second town, but it's typically a bit more complex in earlier games with grass, ledges, NPCs, and a fetch quest.>>59060743In Japanese, land routes are called NUMBERばんどうろ (ie. 101ばんどうろ, 101-ban douro), which means #101 Road/Path/Route/Highway, though we would naturally format it with the number second in English. Water routes are called NUMBERばんすいどう (ie. 129ばんすいどう, 129-ban suidou), which means #129 Water Path/Route.In kanjiNUMBER番道路NUMBER番水道where 番 (ban) is equivalent to #, 道路 is Path/Way + Lane/Passage, and 水道 is Water + Lane/Passage.
>>59061241It's so short they didn't even bother keeping it in HGSS.
Maybe not the worst but I really dislike Kanto Routes 9-10, especially in previous gens where you couldn't Fly to it.

>>59061564You need to be at least 18 to post on this site.
>>59061562I also thought these routes sucked
>>59061562In concept throwing this into what was at the time the coldest region was a good idea, but it falls apart in execution because you have to go through all of this with no downsides to your Pokemon. At least the mud that you'd step in and get trapped in would cause you to get encounters, they should have really thrown in your Pokemon randomly freezing after 30 or so steps in this.Instead it ends up being a mechanic purely to slow you down in what are already pretty slow games.
>>59061562Love this route>Plot ramping up, Team Galactic just bombed a lake as you, your rival, and the professor's assistant all split up to protect each lake's legendary Pokémon>The music (day and night theme)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBnhOZEodlEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgPJ3Tf1EC8>First ever snow routes>Wild Sneasel and Snover, also has Teddiursa/Ursaring, Swinub, Delibird, Smoochum, and Snorunt post-game across Route 216/217 and Acuity Lakefront/Lake>Ace Trainers get new designs, return of Skiers from Gen II>Blizzard happening, barely visible>Get attacked by Trainers hiding in the snow>Route is wide enough that you can't tell if you're going in the right direction, feel like you're being whittled down especially by the hail>Stumbling into the deep snow, you're forcing your character to trudge through the harsh elements>Single solitary rest house acting as an oasis>Snowpoint City has Snowpoint Temple with Regigigas at the bottom after a bunch of sliding ice puzzlesIt's like Hoenn's desert section but done better.
Evergrande>needs Waterfall to simply access it>lone Pokemon Center before the Victory Road cave>needs Flash, Strength and Rock Smash inside>Pokemon League is on the other side of said cave
>>59060729As a kid I hated Kanto Route 19 and 20 so much that I would just Fly back to Pallet Town and Surf south to reach Cinnabar so I wouldn’t have to deal with the Seafoam Island Strength puzzle to reach Articuno until after I used the Old Man glitch to get infinite Master Balls.
>>59061833You’ve got it backwards, it’s the mud that’s useless, while the snow actually has an impact on gameplay. There are no encounters in the mud, and likewise no trainers that can spot you while you’re in it. The only point is getting you stuck. In the snow on route 216 and especially 217, there’s trainers all over than can spot you while you’re being slowed down by the snow. On top of that, the vast, open layout of route 217 + the heavy snow in the overworld makes it more difficult to navigate and easier to get lost. Combine all that with hail during battle and you’ve got a suitable late game route
