What's the best pokedex design?
>>
>>59061002
Always liked Kalos’s the most.
>>
>>59061002
Sinnoh is the best
>>
>>59061002
Gen VI Hoenn
>>
>>59061002
>Sinnoh's is just a DS
>Remake Hoenn's is just a GBA
>the iPad kid game's dex is just an iPad
Bravo, Gamefreak.
>>
Obviously it's the 2 room phones>>59061235
>>
>>59061002
kanto and hoenn are the best
unova, kalos, and galar are the worst

Big fan of the original. It feels like a distinct thing, like a device with a purpose. Lots of later dexes looks like game systems, phones, or just have that modern trend of sleek simple designs. The door on the front of the original feels like the cover of an encyclopedia, which it's meant to be. And it just feels like a distinct type of device. Phone have cameras, but a camera has a distinct form and is recognizable as a distinct thing, yknow? I dont know if I'm getting across, but that's it.
>>
>>59061002
>Kanto gen 1
Distinct, complete, iconic. Features of it are symbolic of encyclopedias its inspired by, each part stands out with rits purpose from the camera to the keypad. Satisfying shape to hold as it splays open in the hand as if it's being consulted and not just held.
>Johto gen 2
Star trek tricorder
>hoenn gen 3
Weird jumble of random parts
>Kanto gen 3
This is just a ds
>sinnoh gen 4
This is just a ds but worse for being so similar to the previous
>Johto gen 4
These are just phones
>unova gen 5
ipod or generic mp3 player
>kalos gen 6
Random sci fi tech junk, indistinct
>hoenn gen 6
This is just a gba
>Alola rotom
Random indistinct sci fi tech junk shape
>Kanto gen 7
This is just a laptop
>galar rotom
This is just a phone

The winner is so clear here and I'm not even a genwunner.
>>
>>59061002
Gen 1's is by far the most iconic
ORAS's is pretty cool
my personal fav is Gen 5's because it reminds me of the slide up phonese they were doing in the early 2010's.

Can you tell me what each button and light in the Gen I dex does?
>>
>>59061441
Yes I can because tiger electronics fuckin made a functional one and I have it.
>>
>>59061565
Ok tell me
>>
>>59061593
It's not confusing man it's a keypad with start/select and a confirm/cancel, a dpad, it's not a complicated layout man it's really straightforward just look at it.

Gen 7

How the fuck did I miss this back in 2014-15?

KANTO POKEDEX (Red & Green)
Left side
>main screen
>analog stick
>red rectangle
>blue rectangle
>green large rectangle
>D-pad
>big blue circle
>red, yellow, green lights
Right side
>second screen
>blue square buttons
>two black ovals
>two white squares
>yellow circle
>two black rectangles on the bottom

What does each one do?
>>
>>59061002
As usual, Unova always wins.
>>
>>59061381
The genwun Pokedex looks like a Fisher-Price toy for toddlers, something that a boy Red's age would be embarrassed to have in public. It is a conceptual failure compared to everything other than gen 7's equally childish Rotomdex.
>>
>>59061686
Probably because no one checks the Pokedex anymore
>>
>Shit tier
The rotom dexes. God will never grant my prayer of genociding this little faggot from the series. I hate the rotom bullshit so much. Fuck you Gamefreak for copying the worst part of Yokai Watch you fucking hacks.
>Bad Tier
DO YOU GET IT THE POKEDEX IS THE DEVICE YOU ARE PLAYING POKEMON ON, HOLY SHIT I'M GONNA CUUUUUUUM I LOVE NINTENDO VIDEO GAME PRODUCT I WILL BUY NEXT NINTENDO PRODUCT
>Slightly shit tier
The Kalos nondescript science fiction device. I have zero opinion on this device, it is the most soulless thing here. I would rate it lower, but I'm struggling to find the enthusiasm to even finish this entry right
>Whatever tier
The Let's Go tablet kid jokes write themselves. Otherwise kinda bland. Probably useful so I respect it a bit, but, it's so fucking boring.
>Neat tier
I kinda like the Johto flip phones, and Unova cell phones. The Johto flip phones are kinda snazzy. A little dorky, but, I respect the choice.
>Cool tier
The OG pokedex. It's the only one that looks like a tool, not a toy. This is a device used to collect and review information. I respect this device. I see a man with this thing, I wonder what he's doing and give him some space.
>>
>>59061880
That's just how electronics looked back then, zoomer.
>>
>>59061705
Be so for real man, you don't know what the big blue circle does? Really? Why are you pretending to be retarded over some obvious truth.
>>
>>59061002
The classic OG design is timeless but the GBA Hoenn one is peak.
>>
>>59061937
You left out the original Hoenn dex
>>
>>59061002
I am partial to gen 3's (original) since I had a physical toy of it
>>
>>59061002
Why is absolutely everything from Alola so fucking gay and soulless?

No, that's what Fisher-Price toys looked like. We already had stuff like PDAs back then that were very much in line with the Pokedexes of later generations. You weren't born yet.

If you dont think old electronics looked like kids toys I don't know what to tell you. Even your pic looks like it. Do you just mean its red? Get over it.
>>
>>59061002
Literally anything that doesn't have Rotom but personally I like the original, Unova, and the gen6 Hoenn dex.
>>
>>59061937
>>59061341
I mean, most generations are usually just based on what phones looked like when the game came out (minus Kalos and the GBA/DS ones), and gen 1's dex is just a PDA with some added greeble bits all over it.
To me, I think the only ones I have complaints about are Johto's weird-ass "looks like a flip phone but it's actually more of a GBC loaded with weird accessories because the Poketch is already a cellphone" thing, and the Rotom phones/dexes. I mean, I liked the "character" of the Rotom dex in the anime, I just don't like the devices.

>>59061002
Despite being the basic-bitch choice, I gotta go with my main man, the Kanto dex. Despite being a literal PDA with that same cover style a lot used to have, it's got the best voice, the best look, and whenever anyone says to picture a Pokedex, it's this.
Shoutout to gen 3 though, since it's clearly an homage to Star Trek, a series I liked for the longest time until meddlers fucked it up.

>>59061880
Nigga, it's literally an early PDA but red. A lot of PDAs back then even had that kind of "cover", though I don't think any had buttons or a screen on the cover flap.
You're an iPhone simp that thinks it looks like an FP toy because of the huge bezels, you NPC consumer-ass Apple muncher.
Plus, 10 year olds back then (and even now, depending on the kid) would love techie shit like that.

I'm partial to Johto and Sinnoh
>>
Where is the dex from ZA?
>>
>>59061002
>D-pad and 4 buttons for easy navigation and mode toggles
Gen II's New Pokédex is actually feally fucking neat despite pretty much looking like a high tech Game Boy Color.
>>
>>59061002
Gen 1 by far.
The rest have looked shit.
Gen 1 had this cool retro look even for back then. The others don't make sense.
>>
>>59063219
As a gen II kid, I disagree and have always disagreed that it was better than gen 1s. It looked shit.
>>
>>59061002
Which are impractical to use (e.g. opening and closing the Dex)?

Which are robust enough to survive an accidental drop?
>>
>>59063233
Well your opinion is shit. I like the original dex alot but there's too many fucking buttons on it that by all indications do literally nothing unless you're talking about the Ashnime/toyline
>>
>>59061002
Rotom phone, it manages to look practical and also have a personality that elevates it to something unique.
I personally like the Kalos Pokedex, it's stylish, but I can see why people find it bland.
Gen 1 to 3 are the worst ones, they look clunky and generic.

>>59061002
Genwun Kanto and both Johtos are the only actually good designs, looks-wise and for user friendliness. DS ones and original Hoenn are fine, rest are bad.
Rotom is and always was a piece of shit and I'm sick of him. Alola rotomdex is actually the worst and ugliest, but I hate smartphones more than I hate Rotom, they are a fucking scourge and also the laziest shit you can think of and I never want to see them ever again in any game (or IRL).
Plus the idea of a surveillance phone as a sentient being is dystopian WEF ass shit.
>>
Gen 1 will always be my favorite since the cover opening like a book is a cute way to reference back to it being an encyclopedia. Other than that I do also like the redesign for FRLG and the gen 6 Hoenn one. I don't like the recent ones that try too hard to be a real device like the tablet thing in Let's Go, the hologram tablet in XY or the godawful Rotom abominations. The DPPt one looks a bit clunky, but I like the idea of the right panel, I can imagine you catch a pokemon and put the ball on the little pad, and it scans the ball to register the pokemon.
>>
>>59062149
It looks like a LeapFrog tablet, like if you press one of those buttons, it'll say "The Pikachu goes Pika!" IDK what else to tell you. In contrast, the sleek form factor of the HGSS or BW Pokedexes make them believable as something that anyone above the age of 5 would use, despite also having bright colors.
>>
what would your rotom phone think about you posting on 4chan
>>
>>59061002
i like the hgss & gen 5 ones personally

i think it's just that you used to see kids toys that looked like phones or tv remotes or other electronics so they could push buttons and whatever without messing anything up on mom's phone
nowadays kids just. have regular-ass phones so i guess the "looks like a kid's toy" connection doesn't exist for modern tech
>>
>>59061002
It's interesting how the evolution of the Pokédex reflects the design of technology over the past 30 years. We’ve gone from a foldable Pokédex full of LEDs, buttons, and screens to simpler devices (but still foldable), and then to buttonless, non-foldable smartphone-like Pokédexes. What we’re seeing here is a true snapshot of the evolution of what our (or the japanese) society considers “modern.”
>>
>>59061705
Imagine 'tising out on the guy because you want to dismantle the argument that the original dex was a far more complex and actual encyclopedic piece of equipment, all because literally every other one is a failure of proportions never before seen.
The only thing better than literally every single one of these are a literal encyclopedia, and the original Dex has the basic functionality, look, and iconography to stand above the rest into all perpetuity.

>You didn't answer my question
Don't need to answer your question nobody has the real answers to. The Fisher Price Dex was an device that was just a glorified "is type strong against type" Simon Says-esque device that didn't make use of the buttons on the right side since it was just for looks, since all the action happened on the left half of the device.
Besides that, you're not acting in good faith, so fuck you on that department as well. Use your imagination, Farquad.
>>
>>59061334
Should have been red to fit with the others
>>
>>59062785
The only good answer
>>
>>59061002
ORAS having a GBA as the dex is pretty cool
>>
Gen I
>Lots of buttons give the impression it does a lot more than it actually does in game. I had the toy and you could actually type in Pokémon names, but the design implies it's a sort of database. Maybe it's the kind of thing you could look at your party stats with.
Gen II
>Looks more like a classic Game Boy screen on something the size of a Game Boy Color, but the pea green screen makes it look lower tech than the original Pokédex even though the outer design and lack of all sorts of random colors and doodads make it appear more mature.
RSE
>Looks incredibly cumbersome to hold horizontally, the cover would always be getting in the way even if it could be held vertically
FRLG
>Looks a lot better than RSE even with hardly any buttons and a clamshell design where the top's only function is to open and close
DP + Platinum
>FRLG taken to perfection by having two screens
HGSS
>Neat that they have male and female variants, but being purely touchscreen with no horizontal space just makes it an oversized flip phone without the buttons
BW + B2W2
>Sleeker than HGSS, but no screen protection and the same problem with no horizontal space
XY
>Hologram touchscreen vertical tablet, insanely boring to look at
ORAS
>Pure novelty and nostalgia, but the original GBA wasn't great compared to the SP or DS series, lacks screen protection compared to the original
SM + USUM
>Stupid Fischer-Price toy, never shuts up, ugly and bulky, like a 2DS with one screen
LGPE
>My mom's COMP. Like a mini DVD player combined with a tablet with a stand, and just as inconvenient in the field
SwSh
>Ruin my fucking smartphone why don't you, sure love how would jab into my pocket and the only distinguishing feature is Rotom

The best is DP + Platinum.
