Pokestar Studios would have been too interesting to elevate to the same level as contests, Ash traveling with a literal movie star in Rosa would make people not give a shit about Ash. BW Ash's stupidity alongside Iris/Cilan's inclusion was just a failed attempt at nostalgia pandering. Without it, we probably might have gotten a more organic transition to gen 5 if they just followed the formula they had with Hoenn and Sinnoh.

Even then, it still would have worked better on Hilda cause she looks like a bratty popular girl. With Iris, it just comes across as more annoying and less main cast material.
