Unironically Johto has the best level curve in the series, except for maybe Sinnoh.

Maybe don't just train your starter
>>
Its really insane just how much more content they managed to add in these and yet still retain the same feel with the originals in both gameplay, theming and story. The only complains i can think of is the insanely high IRL day requirements of the Safari Zone and the lack of a proper Game Corner. Besides that, they went above and beyond with it and it shows. Its a real shame how the Gen 3 and 4 remakes didnt get this level of attention and care.
>>
>>59069843
HGSS removes nearly all of Crystals improvements lmao

>The only complains i can think of is the insanely high IRL day requirements of the Safari Zone
Honestly never really bothered me, theres a shitton of things you can catch in the safari zone to begin with and the ones you need to play the long game for are just a nice bonus if you ask me
>and the lack of a proper Game Corner.
This on the other hand does suck, although to be fair it's a product of censorship laws. Failing to localize the guy who sells coins was fucked up though.
Honestly my main gripe with HGSS (I don't have many, game's damn good) is just the fact that a lot of the TMs are unavailable unless you trade from DPPt
>>59069857
Apart from the room decoration and a few wild Pokemon locations (the only of which that was particularly questionable being Sneasel) it really didn't.

I played Johto for the first time relatively recently. The battles are fun, the story is sweet and the Kanto Post game is totally rad. But my problem with the game is that there is no drive to catch any Johtomons aside from the legendaries. Barely any of them seem interesting to me for some reason. When I play other games like emerald and platinum and encounter region specific pokemon I'm like "Oooh this looks like it might be powerful gotta catch it." I never felt that way about Johto. They all felt meh to me. Not to mention there aren't any good flying types. I had to use an HM slave Hoothoot for fly until I got Ho Oh.

The Kantomons unironically felt more interesting in a Johto game. Like seriously, aside from my starter, my team was almost entirely Kantomons. I probably would have dropped the game near the start if I didn't know you could get a Nidoking (my fav). Am I the only one who feels this way.

> When I play other games like emerald and platinum and encounter region specific pokemon I'm like "Oooh this looks like it might be powerful gotta catch it." I never felt that way about Johto. They all felt meh to me.
That was by design, there was an interview were they admitted they didn’t want johtomons to be popular, just fodder to replace with Kantomons
>>
>>59069881
You're not the only one, this is a pretty common critique, although I respectfully disagree. I think Johto's mons are rad as hell, and that's enough incentive for me.
Going back through Union Cave and finding that hidden path leading to that patch of grass in the Ruins of Alph and catching Natu was a particularly memorable moment, and Xatu happens to be one of my favorite Pokemon, in part because of this very moment.
Misdreavus is another example, this one exclusive to HGSS. Discovering it in Cliff Cave, I immediately wanted to use it. Even as a Misdreavus it kicked ass, don't sleep on it just because you can't evolve it in the main story. It has some seriously fun moves.
At the end of the day, no game is perfect, but I think HGSS is the closest a Pokemon game has come. It has its flaws, but a diamond with a crack in it is still a diamond.

I really fail to see how you got that impression.

>>59069877
>the ones you need to play the long game for are just a nice bonus if you ask me
Yeah its more of a completionist issue but man it is one.

>a lot of the TMs are unavailable unless you trade from DPPt
I guess you could call it a tiny lil remnant of the Gen 2 originals where the TM for Psych Up was acquired by getting an Abra from Gen 1. TMs i love as a concept except the fact that they are so dang limited in quantity and to an extend, accessability. Having them be infinite use in Gen 5 was amazing and i wish Gen 2 remakes had this too.
>>
>>59069893
Oh yeah sure, to each their own I suppose. I do agree with you on Misdreavus though. Probably one of the few exceptions. I don't know if Xatu is all that interesting since there are better psychic types.
>>
>>59069895
>Having them be infinite use in Gen 5 was amazing and i wish Gen 2 remakes had this too.
I actually do prefer them being limited (really makes you think about who you want to use them on), but for moves like Toxic where they exist mostly as moves you can teach to just about anything, I REALLY prefer to have at least one available.
Bright side, the lack of Toxic DOES mean Chikorita's Poison Powder is a surprisingly valuable move to have
>>59069903
Xatu is rather shit in battle, I just really like its design to the point where I don't care
>>
>>59069907
I'd be fine with them being consumables if there was a way to restock on all of them, not only a specific set as we had it. Being a digital hoarder myself doesnt help either but i swear i'll use them if i dont lose them forever!!!
>>
HGSS was dogshit that did nothing to fix all of the flaws from GS. I'm tired of people trying to gaslight me into thinking it was good
>>
>>59069919
>purchasable evolution stones in the pokeathlon
>the majority of formerly postgame-only pokemon are available readily now
>kanto is restored to its full size and there's actually shit to do there now
These were the big three issues that actually needed fixing, just about all of the other common criticisms were complete meme complaints to begin with.
I for one am tired of people trying to gaslight me into thinking HGSS didn't solve any of GSC's issues.
Go actually play both games back to back, you'll be surprised.
>>

I'm right. YOU play the game.

Yeah man.

Why yes, I do. Thank you for noticing.
>>
>>59069936
oh yeah also
>>59069934
>Do nothing to make Johtomons actually available.
Yet more evidence you didn't play the game. 92/100 gen 2 mons are readily available before Kanto across both versions, 93 if you have access to the Pokewalker (you should, it came with the game) or old events, 95 if you have access to both.
>>
>>59069941
Tedious shit isn't content
>>
>>59069947
It's not 92 lmao it's much lower you shill.
>>
>>59069955
Who or what is he shilling for?
>>
>>59069955
Yes the fuck it is dude.
>100 Gen 2 Pokemon
>Houndour, Houndoom, Sneasel, Porygon2, and Suicune are only obtainable in postgame (5)
>Celebi requires an event to obtain (6)
>Elekid requires the Pokewalker to obtain pre-Kanto, which I'm choosing to count since most zoomer faggots play on an emulator (7)
>Blissey requires both to obtain pre-Kanto (8)
>100 - 8 = 92
Everything else is obtainable before postgame. If you really wanna be anal you can subtract Slugma and Magcargo from that since it's admittedly not something you'll reasonably find if you don't already know about it, but even then, that's still 90/100.
>>
>>59069934
It's a Gold and Silver remake, not a Crystal remake

I love HGSS. But I love FRLG and ORAS even more, and I think they're the best games and remakes.
>>
>>59069723
Then why do you screech about having to grind?
>>
>>59069645
Honestly I regret playing Crystal. Because now I don't like HGSS nearly as much. Yeah, going from best Pokemon games to second best Pokemon games is gonna get me killed.
>>
Just don't use more than 4 battle mons

>>59069645
yeah, now my wife can follow me

this but unironically
>>
>>59069645
Completed the game recently and loved it. Had a Meganium, Ninetales, Espeon, Lanturn, Crobat, and Mamoswine. Had a blast. You can tell that they really put their heart and soul into remaking these games. Though the level curve, as stated a billion times before in this thread, did feel a little off. Like, was I supposed to be so underlevelled msot of the time despite battling all the trainers? Aside from it, wonderful game.
>>
>>59071661
Based team.
>>
>>59071661
You're supposed to be under leveled for red without grinding the e4

>>
>>59071674
Yeah Red is the only fight you're usually underleveled for if you don't prepare. You'll be slightly lower level than Lance but not to a really meaningful extent
>>
>>59071683
What's the story behind the names
>>
>>59071691
>Hibana (火花, lit: flower of fire)
It means a flash of fire in moonrunes. no-brainer for a fire-type. It's also the title of a song I really like by THE SIXTH LIE
>Sony
just a stupid name derived from "sonic" since Zubats rely on sound for navigation
>Bela (বেলা)
It's used to refer to a period of the day in Bengali, like morning, evening, nighttime. When I got the Eevee I didn't know what I was gonna evolve him into but I knew it was going to be one of the two Johto evos, both of which rely on the time of the day to evolve.
>Chitra (চিত্রা)
Okay so I've been doing this thing with grass starters where I choose a Bengali name that matches the first few letters of the mon's name. Spriha for Sprigatito, Snigdha for Snivy, Chitra for Chikorita. Spriha was the first time I did this and I really liked it because the "ha" at the end could also stand for 葉 (ha) which means leaf
>Espresso
It's named after the Sabrina Carpenter song. I think there was a reasoning behind it but I can't seem to remember
>Jonaki (জোনাকি)
It means firefly in Bengali, which is kind of similar to a Chinchou, what with their bioluminescence and all
>>
>>59069652
I can’t tell if the argument regarding the level curve being an issue is because people think it makes things too hard or too easy.
>>
>>59071761
well yeah no one can agree on what's wrong with it. really makes you think
>>
>>59069652
FPBP
>>
>>59072542
Its both but different camps
>>
>>59072597
People who think the level curve makes the game more frustrating/difficult, and people who think it makes it dull/too easy?
>>
>>59072604
It makes it too hard if you're trying to keep all 6 pokemon leveled to be at the level of the gyms, or higher, and if you're not doing that, you're running fewer pokemon, likely the stronger ones, which reduces team variety by a lot and you end up overleveled and steamroll things. All on top of the level curve meaning swapping out pokemon after a certain point is just undertaking a big grind, especially post e4 where wild pokemon levels are unchanged from RBY. Its either a lot of grind, or it promotes stacking exp on 1-2 pokemon, and no matter what it makes swapping pokemon out late game a huge pain.
>>
>>59072626
>and if you're not doing that, you're running fewer pokemon, likely the stronger ones, which reduces team variety by a lot and you end up overleveled and steamroll things
this is just the problem with every game with no exp share. No clue why HGSS specifically is screeched about.
>>
>>59072674
Literally just autism. Niggas who NEED their full team to be all the same level, but also not challenged too hard by being under. The idea that there's a level 88 pikachu and the wild pokemon of mt silver are in low 40s breaks their mind.
