Does orginal gen 1 have any advantages over its remakes?
>>59072080SOUL
Glitches can be neat to toy with I guess?
>>59072080streamlined design, unique mechanics, better sprites, stronger atmosphere
Golbat
>>59072080having missingno. and other glitchmons, other than that, its better to play firered instead
>>59072080Literally the Mew glitch
>>59072080>fun glitches and mechanics that were either removed before gen 3 or never appeared again after gen 1>some areas look more interesting despite the limited hardware like Viridian Forest having a deforestation theme.>majority of the soundtrack sounds better than both remakesI personally prefer the originals over both FRLG and LGPE, but it's hard to recommend them to someone as their first Kanto experience. It's still worth to play it though just to see how much and little the series has changed.
>>59072080Jesus no. Blue was my first Pokémon game too. The game is falling apart at the seams... Then again Yellow with the Pikachu followmon, that's a real game you might consider playing.
depends on what you look for in a gameit's a boring answer but it's the simple and true one
>>59072080The critical mechanic un ironically saves a bunch of Pokemon that are now considered to be "shit"
>>59072080>Slightly harder... At first. >Better TM's. >Some of the music is arguably better. That's mostly it. Gen 1 really starts to feel apart in the second half though. Elite four is frankly embarrassingly bad.
>>59072080The crit mechanic makes some Pokemon really strong. It’s also easier.
>>59072322>>59072310I really miss the crit mechanic. Stuff like Persian used to be fearsome
>>59072226
>>59072321Yeah but as an 8 year old not being prepared for a gauntlet with how limited items are it was really hard
>>59072310The charge mechanic is nice too. Hyper Beam is a really good move in gen 1.
>>59072293FRLG's ost is kind of an acquired taste, especially to people who played RGBY in their childhood, but the ost is still pretty damn good regardless imo
>>59072460I can't stand itOff tune trumpets blasting in my ears constantly
>>59072080Glitches.Some Pokemon are stronger due to special being a single stat.No abilities to waste your time.
>>59072537All of gen 3 is rough to listen to.
>>590720808bit route 1 music has yet to be topped
>>59072293>like Viridian Forest having a deforestation theme????
>>59072798https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bRctqZpTM8
>>59072080not having the same fucking trees taking up 90% of all you see in your playthrough, for one
Dodrio Tower in Stadium. Pokemon feels so much better when not dragging its feet through concrete doing basic actions.
>>59072080It's the pokemon gen that feels the most like an adventure, in large part thanks to the bag limit and PC boxes not autoswitching when full.
>>59072847The original Viridian Forest in RGBY used a shit load of unique stump tiles that were absent from all future iterations of the area.
>>59073686Unique as in unique to gen 1, I should clarify, these same stumps appear in other places like the Safari Zone.
>>59072080Amnesia Psyduck was a beast before the special split in gen 2
>>59073686That's not deforestation that's a maintained wood. It's a common path between two towns, so it likely has periodically been cleared enough for travel
>>59072080Outside of wanting to play the originals just for the authentic experience, seeing any of the bugs or jank of Gen 1, there's very little reason to play them compared to FRLG at this pointUnless you really hate held items and abilities I guess
>>59073726I think the tileset and music is better
>>59073726have you ever completed a gen 1 game?
>vaguepost using buzzwords trying to pretentiously describe how the originals “looked better” in some wayNo OP. FRLG is basically the better experience in every way unless you’re a contrarian that thought that “special” is a unique mechanic.
>>59072080RBY + Stadium is a better experience than the remakes. Playing gen 1 through Stadium felt like a much bigger experience. The extra features on your PC and Pokédex and being able to play at 3x speed really enhanced the original games. I feel like that's the definitive way to play gen 1 if you don't use rom hacks. Don't get me wrong I like FRLG but they could have been much much more.
>>59072080No natures, no abilities.
>>59073757In my youth yes (played Gen 2 first, but my parents got me Gen 1 after), but as an adult in my 30s I see very little reason to play Gen 1 when FRLG is effectively the best way to replay the Kanto experience at this point
It has more usable pokemon, not getting screwed over by natures and evs means you can use anything. Honestly playing the old games again reminded me how bad the new EV/nature system is
>>59073809You should try this (also works with emulators if you don't have real hardware) >>59073771
>>59072080Use of colour in FireRed/LeafGreen was flat and kind of shit compared to what the GBA was capable of.If high-IQ, your imagination has a better blank slate to work with in Gen IGame Freak makes very poor use of colour in general, fucking up sprites/shinies/etc. from generation to generation.
>>59073726>Unless you really hate held items and abilities I guessMost Kantomons got shafted when it came to abilities, and the available held items are a nonfactor. What can you even get? Type-boosting items that only give a 10% bonus and random berries?
>>59073939For the initial playthrough yeah typically
Aside from Soul and retro vibes? Absolutely none.
>>59072080Stadium compatibility and unique mechanics like auto crit moves and combined special stats. I grew up with LeafGreen as my main Pokemon game and I think I still prefer gen 1 over it. I won't pretend it's perfect but it's a great experience regardless and every Pokefag should play it at least once.
>>59073714Regardless it makes Viridian Forest stand out in gen 1. The way they've done it in every gen since 2 has been a generic forest filled with fully grown trees which makes it look really uninteresting compared to forests in other regions.
