Would playing this be an okay introduction into the modern TCG? Enough of a base to understand the fundamentals, or is it a lost cause?
no but its a fun game regardless
>>59072881It's good enough and 90% the same as modern TCG but it's lacking some type of pokemon and trainer cards that were introduced years later (EX, V, mega pokemon, stadium trainer cards, etc). You can always play modern pokemon TCG online for free by downloading Pokemon TCG live.
>>59072881It's definitely a useful game to teach you the fundamentals, since that game is still 100% in the current game. The difference is that the current game has added new Trainer types and Pokémon types that aren't in the GBC game.
>>59072881You'll get the taste of old pokeTCG where trainer cards are completely busted (bill, oak, gust of wind, energy removal) and most pokemon are mediocre at best (health tops out at 120 for big-dick mons like charizard, half of the decent attacks have self-damage or energy discard drawbacks)
>>59072881that would be tcg pocket
>>59072881I dunno about modern TCG, but this is just a fun game regardless.
>>59072881Just spend a few minutes on Tcg live
>>59072881It's good, go ahead and have fun.
>modernAbsolutely not. I liked the game as a kid, but the style of playing now is very different to the super simplified way the game will portray. Modern pokemon is probably closer to mtg or yugioh than the tcg game with how much non-combat stuff matters compared to that game
