I miss when the Pokedex was an actual device now we're stuck with Rotom Dex Forever, this was our last Non Rotom Pokedex from Let's Go (BDSP reused the original and Arceus was pen and paper)
Take me back
I have to assume kids like it or something because all I see anywhere are people complaining about what they've done to Rotom (which was just done to copy Yokai Watch, which died anyway) and yet they keep doing it.
>>59073584Rotom has nothing to do with it, it's because Pokemon's technology has always reflected Japanese trends of the times.Back in the age of Gens 1-3, having a plethora of devices was all the rage, so in turn that meant you had a bunch of different devices for different things. Then the Poketech compressed all of this into a modular device that could install smaller programs from external sources (but kept the Pokedex because said tech still wasn't big enough for such a thing), and by the time of Gen 7 it was abundantly clear that all-purpose smartphones were the way, and that their specs were only growing, so they pivoted to the Rotom Phone in Gen 8 since they wanted to put a Pokemon spin on the concept of the smartphone. But since Porygon was still a franchise oddity due to Electric Soldier Porygon, they weren't allowed to use it for the obvious role of "integrating a Pokemon who can interact with technology into the smartphone" since otherwise you'd have to completely remove smartphones from the anime, which was also shifting its gears to focus on being trendy and then-present rather than being a timeless cartoon.
>>59073722It's also because Rotom is Ishihara's favorite Pokemon, and as a GameFreak veteran, he obviously has a lot of leeway on how Rotom is utilized thanks to Japan's "above all else, respect your elders" social and workplace culture.
>>59073584The hate for the Rotom dex is the second most forced thing in this board.Just say you are nostalgia Faggot who is afraid of change.Rotom phone is perfectly fine
>>59073878Maybe you have nostalgia for the Rotom dex which has been in the series for ten years
>>59073880I started playing in gen 4.I just don't care about the looks of the Pokedex. This is like complaining about how the designs of the mother characters change on each generation
>>59073878>Just say you are nostalgia Faggot who is afraid of change. 4chan retards in a nutshell
>>59073739>But since Porygon was still a franchise oddity due to Electric Soldier Porygon, they weren't allowed to use it for the obvious role of "integrating a Pokemon who can interact with technology into the smartphone"They added Porygon 2 AND Porygon-Z after ESP you dumb cunt. But they ALSO introduced a pokémon that possessed appliances and established it was a naturally-occurring creature as opposed to a affirmed digital construction and due to the ANIME'S disinterest in porygon because it was a massive fuck up on OLM to cause such an issue with the core demo decided it made more sense to have the canon appliance possessor possess OTHER human tech instead (leading the spin offs to do porygon phones, because they can't in fact use any Game Freak specific ideas and they're not at risk of advertising any their shit to children through an anime series). They likely could have gone with Porygon. But Porygon's cancer to the anime (remember, they stop using shit in-series that may upset people IRL like tsunami or earthquake attacks), leading them to just have to come up with some OTHER idea for them to animate, a lá arsepull the forgman because Yujima wanted Megas to be nukes, but ALSO Ash to have a Gen 6 nuke to fight back.
>>59073878I'm just not a fan of the Rotom Dex, Im open to a smartphone Pokedex, but it would look kinda cool if it was a little bulky with a scanner attached
>>59073878The problem with the rotom dex is the same problem with a lot of modern architecture in pokemon, it just looks goofy.Having big lightningbolt nonsense hanging off your phone just looks silly, just like having a building with giant gravity defying wings or a thin tower with a massive dome at the top just looks goofy. It takes you out of the world.
>>59073584If WW has a rotomdex, I'm not playing it.It's a dealbreaker for me, I hate it that much.
The worst thing about rotom is we already had porygon for this, it was designed for this exact purpose but they're shillmonning their mascot Easter egg from a game nobody ever heard of
>Pikachu gives kids seizures>porygon catches the strays
>>59074107>from a game nobody ever heard ofTo be fair this might be a cultural thing, for some reason DP is Japan's favorite Pokemon game. It's like Zeraora being popular in exactly Japan and nowhere else.
>>59074133Oh no, I mean this gameGamefreaks smash hit 1994 Sega genesis game, pulseman!
Just look what we came from and tell me you prefer the same Rotom Dex from here on out they even bothered making new ones for the remakes except for BDSP
>>59073584I’d agree if the Pokédex was actually useful. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve had to use it over the span of the main series. I’ve probably used it more in Pokopia’s opening week than I did for the mainline games
>>59073878What’s the first?
I'd be fine with the Rotom-dex if it was an actually unique piece of hardware instead of le relateable smartphone.Honestly, I hate seeing smartphones in any work of fiction, not matter how contemporary the setting.
>>59073584There's a chance the flip design could come back given current smart phone trends
>>59074133>for some reason DP is Japan's favorite Pokemon gameDS games (mostly Platinum and HGSS) are also /vp/ and reddit's favorite Pokemon games, they have far more defenders than Emerald even though hoennbabs and sinnohfeti are both born in late 90s
>>59073584>modelled after a switch in tabletopneat
>>59074507Problem there is that most of these existed before the widespread adoption of mobile phones, especially smartphones. We now have extreme multitool computers that can do virtually anything right in our pockets, no need for specialized devices much anymore. Each Pokedex is just an elaborate adaption of a PDA, and PDAs were the prototypes for smartphones.
>>59074507If they do a rotomphone thing again, I hope that they decide to change it up with Porygon or a new Pokemon.
