So Sceptile is hot ass due to its offensive stats and its movepool being egregiously mismatched, and assuming they never fix this, I have ideas for regionals where the swap could work

Idea A: Water/Grass, turn Sceptile into a Basilisk lizard and have it run across water
Sceptile's gimmick is speed basically, what 120 Speed and Unburden as it's hidden, so I'd say Swift Swim could be the hidden here, or Sniper, as it could use Leaf Blade and Aqua Cutter as its two primary STABs, Aqua Jet to emphasize speed/priority
Change Sceptile's pointy tail into a Willow tree and I think you're set

Idea B: Grass/Ice, change its tail into a Pine tree, and rather than running, it slides or luges to move quickly, hidden being Slush Rush
Sceptile is pretty frail, so giving it Ice lets it beef up slightly under Snow, and Ice teams run Aurora Veil anyway
Grassy Glide and Ice Shard for priority
>>
It's unsalvageable.

Just make it a physical attacker bro i don't care

There are many ass Pokémon.

I've toyed with the idea of having a "Natural Allies" system to allow the 99% of Pokémon which are AIDS to be useful. In this system a Pokémon will have a set of mons that are its natural allies and being on field with it as a partner will provide a SMALL buff to a stat.

E.g. Kyogre might have Sandslash as one in the list, while Mewtwo has Excadrill. That way someone MIGHT consider using Sandslash instead of Excadrill if they want 5% more accuracy to moves or 5% higher defense... Has to be something minor enough so it's not an obvious choice to need to use the ally mon. So that both options could feasibly be better depending on the overall team and strategy.

Ideally though it would be allies that make sense, like from the same region, or like Shellder/Cloyster and Slowbro/Slowking.

Because most of my favorite Pokémon are consistently shit, but you can't buff everything and need some things to just not be legendary tier, I think it could make them usable. It could give you a benefit for choosing a shitty mon instead of a straight downgrade for absolutely no benefit.

Sceptile, Swampert, and Blaziken, could benefit each other on the field together. Blaziken is actually decent so people might decide to bring along the awful reptile.
>>
You don't need to reinvent Sceptile, just give it more special moves.
They've been handing out moves like Surf and Earth Power in recent games but Sceptile still can't get any.
>>
>>59074277
Nasty Plot and Weather Ball would solve a lot of fucking problems real quick, but Game Freak is a bunch of fags
>>
>>59074237
>>59074277
cringe changes
just swap the offensive stats and give swap out Unburden for Sharpness
simple and effective
>>
Grass/Ice makes sense to me as a regional form for it. It's what I'd expect when they reveal it's one of the starters in the next legends game. and they'll drop its speed to buff its defenses LOL
>>
>>59074317
Hoenn conceptually was centered around nature, Sceptile and Swampert being specialized to their environments, Blaziken being the odd one out
I actually thought of the Ice one first, because Mega Septile's tail is very clearly a coniferous tree
I think an Ice option makes sense as a survival adaption, working mechanically and in a "lore" sense
>>
>>59074330
>Swampert
At home in swamp and muck, in tune with both land and sea. Its natural home is any of the non-grassy lands. Spectacular.
>Sceptile
Deftly diving through woodlands and across prairies, being but verdant playgrounds. Its natural home is anywhere with foliage. Elegant.
>Blaziken
Boxing his opponent and following with a blazing kick, he's the king of the ring, the cock of the rock. Its natural home? THE THUNDERDOME BABY
>>
Just switch its attacking stats around, holy shit
>>
>>59074237
Just give it Sharpness, expand the number of slashing moves it can use, and go all in on that theme.
Your choice if you want to run pure physical, or throw Leaf Storm on to go mixed.
It's not gonna be OU, but it at least has some stuff it can do well.
>>
>>59074343
Who is the Master-Blaster of Hoenn
>>
>just just just
Can't you homos have fun?
Have you no imagination
>>
>>59074284
Instead they gave Nasty Plot to fucking Garchomp.
>>
>>59074372
Nasty Plot + Monotype and barely any coverage
Thanks Game Freak
>>
>>59074344
That wouldn't be enough.
105 on a grass type sucks regardless. It would be BETTER with that alternative spread, but that's just the difference between being an abject shitmon, and a shitmon. The fundamental issue of it being a noodle armed, fast mixed attacker isn't solved.
>>
>>59074397
With Sharpness 105 base attack is more than enough. It gives it 130 base power Leaf Blade to spam.
>>
>>59074397
Its gimmick is evidently speed, which is why I suggest Swift Swim/Slush Rush, Sniper with Aqua Cutter/Leaf Blade lets it do SOMETHING with Tailwind support
>>
>>59074353
Linoone and Breloom. Both run Underworld (Everything before you get Surf), they collectively handle just about everything, and both have difficulty really excelling once you leave Underworld. Blaster is Zigzagoon. He comes online sooner, and is a blunt force brute with early Headbutt, but falls off much harder once you leave Underworld. Shroomish is Master. He guides you to victory against Roxanne, and is good for more technical use cases up through Norman. He has better prospects after Underworld, even though he will struggle against most things.
>>
>>59074402
Yeah. With Sharpness that's absolutely enough, since that also defacto gives it Stab on some coverage options. Makes it good for revenge.
>>
Mixed attackers ruined pokemon
>>
>>59074428
Gamefreak’s shitty balancing ruined some pokemon that’s for sure
>>
>>59074421
Shroomish doesn’t seem like the smart type but I guess he could sit on top of a Linoone
>>
>>59074237
Just give it Belly Drum, it even has the Unburden ability for fucks sake.
>>
>>59075642
where da belly he gon drum
>>
>>59074330
>because Mega Septile's tail is very clearly a coniferous tree
I disagree. Sceptile is a jungle Pokemon, its tail (and possibly those knobs on its back) resembles fern leaves or a fern tree. The silhouette becoming more Christmas tree-like doesn't turn it into a conifer.
>>
>>59074428
they work fine if they have enough raw stats to make both sides viable without sacrificing speed.
>>
>>59074237
I don't understand why they didn't just give it dragon typing back in gen 3
>>
>>59076781
Because it would have outshilled Charizard. It’s megas is allowed to become Dragon because Charizard already got its dragon mega and another one,
>>
>>59075716
It got a bigger belly to drum than Kommo-o does
