For me, it's Typhlosion and Infernape because I've spent a gargantuan amount of time playing Gen 4 and I can't imagine playing Platinum or HGSS without picking them as my starter.

Friend and me played a competition on FR on separate screens and we would start the game and run through it fast as possible and every 30 minutes we would fight. I picked Squirtle and he had Bulbasaur. Kicked my ass the first few times, but I caught Golbat and surprised his ass. Golbat's been my bro ever since.

When the time came to get rid of all my new Pokemon for my old OP team, I couldn't let Blossom go. I transferred her to Pokemon Violet and raised her to LV 100 before putting her back on the team in place of Dialga. I now use a Sylveon in every game and I even have a shiny lv 100 Sylveon in Legends Z-A.

vaporeon. when my best friend and i were kids, we played through the original red and blue together. he gave his eevee a water stone without knowing what it would turn into, and then was upset by how girly vaporeon's design was, so he traded it to me. i didn't understand that traded mons got an exp bonus, so that vaporeon quickly became the highest leveled/strongest mon on my team and carried me through the rest of the game. my friend died a few years ago but i still go out of my way to use vaporeon in my in-game team in the games where it's available.
