No there's a lot of great looking cards even in base set
It's kind of stupid
A lot of the rares are just boring stock art whereas many of the commons and uncommons are more dynamic and interesting
>>
Of course, it's Charizard

>NOOO ITS LE HECKIN OLD IT HAS TO BE LE GOOD!
OP is correct and anyone disagreeing is a faggot blinded by nostalgia who should just kill themselves because the past is never happening again, all that's left is the future, and if you're going to cling to the past your life is going to stagnate and you will die a miserable death anyway.

This Charizard was illustrated at a time when the pokemon only had 1 horn instead of 2, like we know today.
The earliest incarnations of charizard was a mono-horner.

New arts == Soulful early 3D > Stock art plopped onto new scenery >>> Stock art on an abstract background
These are the only art categories of the first few TCG sets before they starting bringing in artists who do cool shit like molded clay figures
>>
>>59093707
Its neck look retarded
Never understood the appeal of this shitty art
>>
>>59094146
yeah the ken sugimori cards where it's just his stock art pasted on a background were always boring to me.
i posted this opinion once in a tcg thread and people got mad about it.
base set charizard is at least a bit more unique.
>>
>>59094146
the problem is that at the time, each v\Pokemon only got 1-3 cards so art was memorable. now, there's more sets (with more cards), so it's harder to keep everything straight.

What the fuck.

Energy discard is a fuck. You could start spamming that on turn two with double colorless energies and lock your opponent out of the game if it did enough damage to burn through active pokemon as well.
>>

Zoomers will never understand why stock art isn't bad because you grew up with the Internet. Owning that art felt like a privilege at the time, you could always access it because you owned the card. You don't appreciate all Google does for you literally every second of your life.
>>
>>59093909
Yeah, sorry you were raised in the age of minimalism slop and globohomo art.
You're just contrarian because you didn't get to live in the best period of humanity.

>>59094489
terrrible take lmao
>>
>>59094489
What shithole did you grow up in? I’m 36 and grew up with Pokemon and had plenty of Geocities websites bookmarked that provided the art.

Pokemon was the biggest thing in the world at the time. You could find those specific images on stickers, posters, advertisements on store windows, in the pokerap. I had a vertical poster of the 150 taped up in my room. The stock art was literally everywhere. Having new art for cards should have been default instead of plastering the exact same Poliwrath on a smear of color that you did onto a box of pop tarts.

I thought it was a common opinion. Most places I’ve seen discussing card art seem to agree

And retards will pay 400k for an UGLY piece of cardboard when I can get +4000 bulk cards that look better than that piece of shit and only for like 80 usd.

It was never good. You're the zoomer faggots who weren't there at the start when it was carried by aggressive marketing.

I lived through the 90s and early 2000s, and I can assure you I much prefer the modern day and its conveniences. And the fact we have superior remakes of gens 1 and 2 (FRLG/HGSS) is just icing on the cake. I have zero reason to play the unfinished buggy shit that is gens 1 and 2 ever again, and anyone who insists they still have value as games is a nostalgia-blind retard.

I'm happier today than I ever was as a child, because now I have money and freedom and can buy what I want when I want. I don't have to beg someone else to do something like I did as a kid. I have friends now, something I didn't have as a child.
