we finally have a clear picture of how grindy the game will be:

>Fully building a mon (maxing out its EVs from 0, changing all 4 of its moves, changing its nature, and changing its ability) will cost 2340 VP.
>Winning a battle (at least at rank 1; there might be some kind of scaling to the rewards) gives 200VP, shown in yesterday's trailer.
>Recruiting costs 2500

Recruited mons do come with existing sets, but if you wanted to completely retrain it your worst case scenario is just shy of 5k total.
So you're looking at 12 wins to get enough VP to build a mon, as many as 25 if you also need to recruit it first.

There's also the cost of held items (though it does look like you just buy them once and then can essentially "assign" them to as many mons as you like, which is nice. I think so anyway, the videos weren't super clear).
>>
You're also not including missions, which will likely be the main source of VP. Do we know if existing training carries over from S/V yet? Or do we have to EV everything from scratch in Champions?
>>
>>59096161
do we actually know what missions even are yet?
>>
You also get them from missions (daily, weekly etc) and doing tutorials at the start. Like most F2P games they will probably drown new players in the currency, I don't think it will be a problem as long as you play the game regularly.
>>
>>59096148
Doesn't sound bad honestly. If you are a PvP only autist you will accumulate more than enough points quickly anyway, and if you still play mainline games then you will have other ways to easily make competitive mons.
>>
>>59096164
Serebii's video said they were just basic things like using certain types of pokemon, hitting SE moves, etc.
>>
>>59096161
At least moves carry over but unsure on the rest. I’d assume natures do as well at a minimum.
>>
>build an obnoxious but reliable cts ladder team that wont need tweaking
>farm wins early on
>rack up enough currency to be set for the forseeable
thats my plan
>>
When does PLZA get Home support?
>>
>>59096179
its not confirmed, but the marketing for champions has pretty heavily implied za home support will drop alongside champs
>>
>>59096179
Probably the same time as PFR and PLG.
Mid-April I'm guessing.
>>

No Single Player mode is dumb, what's the purpose of these new charcters lol, just to be menu screens like the Pokemon Unite characters, it would make the grind fun when you're bored of pvp
>>
>>59096313
>what's the purpose of these new charcters lol
at least as far as your picrel goes, i can think of a few ideas
>>
>>59096313
what i'm more miffled about is that and no all random battles, it would be a great way to just fuck around with the game and for new players to be able to just play the game without needing to really learn the meta

>it would be a great way to just fuck around with the game and for new players to be able to just play the game without needing to really learn the meta
has there been any word on if rental codes are back? if new players need to actually build a team to start playing, thats going to be massively more offputting than just loading up whatever cybertron tells them to like in swsh/sv
>>
>>59096296
Imagine being this broke

No Champions grind for me thanks
>>
So what is the pay cycle? Just battle pass? If you get gems for winning than anyone who cares will already get enough just playing
>>
>>59096454
Serebii says rentals are back

>>59096436
The entire game is basically randbats if you want, just do free temporary recruiting with your daily rotation mons. The sets are probably not AS good as the randbats ones by default but they do come trained.
>>
>>59096584
They will definitely have cosmetics that will require paid currency (not VP)
>>
>>59096584
Nintendo online. At least until the mobile version launches, I assume they'd make the switch one free to play without nintendo online then. Otherwise nobody would play on switch lol
>>
>>59096584
theres a starter pack, battle passes, and a membership. idk if we know exactly what the latter includes yet
>>
>>59096454
>>59096593
Ah rentals are really cool, a great way to just get temporary teams, though what i meant is mostly have to go and play the meta or around the meta, as you know more than likely whoever you're fighting against will be playing the meta
I want random battles because that was the most fun about showdown for me, being able to hit the site and hit all random and just have fun with whaever the site gave me and strategize with the hand i got, knowing my oponent also has a random team, it's like having a roguelike mode, the randomness adds a lot of fun and replayability, plus trying out pokemon you probably wouldn't bother trying out otherwise because they're not meta or that great to begin with but might have a fun niche
>>
>>59096584
apparently it's pretty cheap, from what i heard and the aprox prices converted from yen to dollar
-Starter pack 7 bucks (prob will be adjusted to 10) : gives you 50+ box spaces, 50 training tickets and 30 recruit tickets
-premium battlepass 9 dollars (probably 10 to 15): exclusive clothing, free pokemon and mega stones (these can be gotten for vp separately)
-Membership 5 dollars a month or 45 a year (adjusted to probably 7 and 70) : gives exclusive clothing and music themes

i can imagine they will add paid VP boosters since everything is bought with VP and also have paid outfits, themes or battle arenas
>>
>>59096607
I'd play on the Switch.
That's where my Pokémon already are.
>>
>>59096870
But like I said, they give you 10 random trained-up mons a day and you can rent them for a day for free. It’s not TRUE randbats because the team is consistent across multiple matches, but it changes daily.

The real question is how the pre-training is balanced out. The demo they showed it was just two stats minmaxed, rather than more careful defensive and speed spreads, though I do wonder if over time they’ll just start pre-loading those mons with whatever meta sets are common on the ranked ladder. The issue there being a lot of sets are item dependent.

I am not into competitive pokemon (yet). How will this game be for casual players? I just want to use Pokémon that I think look cool and that I caught from the mainline games.

I hate mirror matches in any video game with a burning passion hence why I never found "meta" teams interesting.
>>
>>59096947
Not like anybody knows yet but should be fine because not everyone can even run full meta teams at the start.
>>
>>59096947
>I hate mirror matches in any video game with a burning passion hence why I never found "meta" teams interesting.
Then get in early. It always takes at least a few weeks for the metagame of a new gen to settle down. When Champions launches everyone will be trying the new megas to see what sticks.
>>
>>59096939
Yeah but the issue is that while my team will be random whoever i play against most likely won't, and that's kinda what sucks, as i will have to keep in mind i can't bring X pokemon because it will get stomped by the meta, while if it was all random both mine and the oponent, i don't have to worry what i play because i know most likely the other player will be carrying just as a random team as mine
>>
>>59096148
I think as long as a Non-HOME player gets a standard viable team of six as quickly as possible, I don't think any of them should struggle with VP too much. Its new players who are just getting introduced to competitive and need to experiment with spreads who'll suffer the most from a VP grind, both because they need more VP overall and because they'll find it harder just to win matches.
>>
>>59096947
The most fun period is going to be the first two or three weeks, so just get into it right away. Not only will the meta be up in the air, but there'll be a lot more players of your level playing at that time.
>>
Do HOME transfers go into the same box as your gacha mons, or are they seperate. I'd honestly like to collect stuff from the gacha to use seperately for fun, but if they're just mixed together with my trained stuff it's less so.
>>
>>59096313
>what's the purpose of these new charcters lol
Memes and porn.
>>
>>59096170
Lol so this is their way of forcing players to not use the same 4 pokemon
>>
>>59096313
I thought for sure we were getting a little side single player mode, it doesn't even have to be anything big just something to play around with your teams against NPC's, but nope I was expecting to much from these lazy fucks

Gonna play full stall myself.
>>
>>59096148
It's gonna be interesting to see if you can recruit a whole team at the beginning. You would think so, but somehow I can't rule out that they don't give players anything.
>>
>>59096947
They seem to be pushing it a lot for new players to get a foot in, so it might work well for casuals.
And many will start out with rentals, so there's gonna be a lot of RNG to teams made purely in Champions. We'll see what the ratia between import players and pure rental players gonna be though.
>>
>>59096167
you'll def get enough for 1 team at the start, so just don't fuck it up
>>
>>59099388
>Do your first rental scout
>get to pick between
>Ariados, Emboar, Altaria, Dedenne, Furfrou, and Jolteon
>>
>>59099444
hey man they could do champions specific buffs for bad pokemon so ariados could get a sticky web toxic debris and +50 to both defenses and +25 to attack
>>
>>59099444
If Ariados is somehow the best choice out of 10, then either the RNG is shit or you're the unluckiest man alive.
