>>59105578New to Essentials question: Does it treat it as one Type or two Types for damage calculation if you give a Pokemon dual-mono-Types? Like is Grass/Grass 4x weak to Fire? Would it get double STAB?
>>59105867Honestly, no clue. There are a lot of niche things with essentials that don't have proper documentation (I've spent hours trying to find out how abilities are picked in Battle Tower encounters). The best way to test this is to make an NPC with a pokemon with the double type (make sure it only knows splash to keep things simple), hit it with a move, remove the double type, and hit it again. You will definitely see a difference between X2 and a X4 damage.
>>59105903Yeah, I'd probably hit a Lv100 Normal/Normal Chansey with a Fighting move. Don't quite know anything about making a battle yet. I've been reading and noticed a double type in someone's pokemon.txt I was looking at.
If it doesn't have a cute moemon patch slapped on top...what's the point?
>>59106014My only problem with the Moemon series is that they're all literally just the base game with moemon sprites. I don't mind if they don't change story or region, but I'd at least like a more difficult challenge.
>>59105578As the biggest Elite Redux shill in this general I'm just gonna say it... this shit is ASS :heartbreak: :wilted-rose:The devs hate us... first the BS movepool review and now Debug mode axed. Fun detected, target locked, destroyed.
>>59106317The hell is elite redux?
>>59106059Moemon is great for first time playthroughs where you get to look at cute girls instead. Just because Touhou has cute girls doesn't mean pokemon mods with cute girls need to have Touhou difficulty
>>59106317Cool, now I won't play it.
>>59106332To some... peak...To others... slop...It's an Emerald enhancement romhack that-->BOOOOOOOOOOOO, YOU STINK!Hold your metaphorical horses, I wasn't finished yet!!The main "gimmick" is that every Pokemon has 3 choices for abilities, and 3 guaranteed "Innate abilities". Tons of them are existing abilities from the actual games, and tons are custom. The game has all mons up to gen 9, even the PL:ZA megas now. It also adds a slew of custom regional (Redux forms), evolutions to existing mons, Convergent forms, and paradox forms. Most Pokemon receive a buff (of course, every Pokemon having 4 abilities is a buff), lots of existing abilities and moves are changed too.You can read the rest yourself.https://eliteredux.net/https://forwardfeed.github.io/ER-nextdex/
>>59106317>>59106384>>59106385Now you're stuck with Exceeded
>>59106388What is this?
>>59106388Lmao there are plenty of hacks to play. I'm not stuck with anything.>>59106476You could try Googling it.
>>59106385Sounds cool, but the devs response about "not caring" makes them sound like an an asshole, so I won't be giving them any clicks.
>>59106385Oh. I don't feel like playing through Emerald enhancement slop for the gajillionth time in a romhack, but what I will say is that it gets points for setting itself apart from the other Emerald Enhancement hacks by trying to at least be a little bit creative by making a big change to the core battle experience.
>>59106317>>59106385What WAS the reasoning for this? If it's something like
I love my birb!
When do you get fly in Unbound?
>>59106384Yeah I feel you bro, this change has taken the wind out of my sails too. I still wanna play it, but I'm less motivated now to do all the mono-type runs I had in mind. >>59106388The goat Darky (original dev) asked the main-devs now to bring back Debug Mode, and they did bit but with limited capabilities in beta 2. I'll probably play that if I play it at all.>>59106481They do come off really assholish and dismissive with how they take feedback, but It's their project I guess, can only watch the burn.>>59106482I will say, I am a pig at the slop trough when it comes to enhancement hacks, but I stopped caring about the others after playing Elite Redux the first time. 4 abilities is just so gross, it loops back around to being amazing.>>59106487No kidding, I wanna play Aquamarine now. I can play as Mew for some reason and use this? Sign me up.
>>59106516The Cowboy nigga.
>>59106487My mom’s altaria
>>59105578Essentials question: Will it cause game issues if I leave a numbers gap in the pokemon.txt I'm using ID numbers and will have a numbers gap. Example:[001]Info[002]Info[003]Info[006]Info[007]InfoSo I'll be missing 004 and 005. Will the Pokedex allow me to skip scroll lines or will 006=004 in the dex position? Or will this cause an issue and game crashes?I've done a lot more work than that and it'll actually be a pain in the ass to shift things around. I'm okay with having a numbers gap in the dex but if I can't have a gap I'll have to renumber about 200 things.
>>59106485Autism is my serious guess. I bet debug was included by mistake and the dev wants you to play the game a certain way so you can't have it.
>>59105578Anyone know what happened to the Wack Mod by HyperDream abbreviated as PMWVFM (PokeMon Wack Version F Mod) is my guess. No idea what the F supposed to stand for. I have it and am trying to fix some conflicts it has with the latest version of Wack but I can't find where I downloaded it from originally. (It was a few years ago.)
>>59106674Did a quick search and that's pretty much what it was. The OG dev told the new dev team to put debug back in though. I will never understand why game devs, and I'm not speaking only about Pokemon Romhacks/Fangames, don't want to let their audience play the game in a way that makes it fun for them. Almost nobody that plays Pokemon games wants to play it in the most absolute optimal way every way. Like imagine that a dev intentionally designs a gym to be impossible to beat without a specific Pokemon from two routes ago. Then that Pokemon just so happens to be the devs' favorite.
I think i am giving u on hack and pokemon because of this:-Gym leader level is 25-Areas before it have pokemon in 13-15 level range.-Forced to grind with the hack author encouraging rare candies to skip itThis just baffled my mind. It is simple math. Just increase the level range for fucks sake.
>>59106723Isn't that what you anti-infinite rare candy people want? Extremely tedious grinding disguised as gameplay?
>>59106782>Isn't that what you anti-infinite rare candy people want? No. What i want is to have max 5 fights before the gym leader fight to level up my pokemon to his level. Not having to deal with 20+fights because the level curve is insane. This is absolutely horrid at the beginning of the game where most mons don't really have good tools to quickly grind.Drayano is notorious for doing this shit.
>>59106782>Extremely tedious grinding disguised as gameplay? The grind is the gameplay?
>>59106812NTA but the 4th rule of RPG's is that grind =/= gameplay
>>59106834It amounts to almost 2/3 of the playtime in almost all jrpg's.
>>59106838Feminism exists, doesn't make it good.
>>59106834>>59106838Usually the "grind" is just fighting what you find along the way.But Pokémon fans seem to be allergic to optional battles.
Sword and shield is so bad it is the only mainline game without proper overhaul romhacks.( the only one has been abandoned and doesn't support the dlc).Even brilliant diamond got something.
>>59106877I seek out optional battles because that's where the exp and items are. Grinding is when there's nothing else and I need to run back and forth in tall grass for a solid ten minutes
>>59106668Assuming you are using the most up to date version of Essentials, the regional_dexes.txt is what determines the dex order, so gaps like that won't matter. It's why the most up to date games use the pokemon's name in all caps as the ID instead of numbers. If your using an old version of Essentials, I can't really help you there.
>>59106782Pro-candy people can't balance a game.
>>59106317Elite Redux is bloatslop at this point. Way too many fakemons, and route/map changes for no reason.
>>59105578what are some good Firered/Emerald Enhanced mods?Im looking for a mod where you can get all the Trade evolutions in game and get all the avialable pokemon of the region in one playthrough and maybe multiple uses of TMs and move tutorsEvery mod out there that does this also "fixes" a bunch of other stuff and just devolves into some completly new gameI just want to play the original games and get all the pokemon in one run without nedding to trade and not much moreIt doesnt have to be all 386 pokemon of the gen kust the ones that are available in the native regions are fineAlso im gonna jump into gen 4 once my thor comes so if someone can name the same enhanced mods for gen IV and V that would be cool
>>59107597If that's all you want, then you can do that in about two hours. One hour and 45 minutes to actually setup romhacking, and the last 15 minutes to change evolution method. Changing the evo method is the easiest thing to do and the hardest to fuck up.
>>59107597https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/pok%C3%A9mon-modern-emerald-open-source-3-3-1-released-following-pok%C3%A9mon-modern-battle-frontier-and-more.494005/Basically, all of the newer stuff, post Gen 3, is optional. You can pick and choose what you want added
>>59107597Perfect Water Blue. It has also 2 versions, one with the original Damage category, and one with Physical/Special split.
>>59107597Modern Emerald.
>>59107597Pokemon Throwback is kinda like that but i dont like the additonal "fixes" like changing the sprites and whatnotIts like whenever they do make an enhanced Pokemon game they just change a few things to make it their own and it just rubs me the wrong way
Can anyone who played Odyssey tell me when can I start changing my Pokemon's nature? On a side note, if anyone's got other romhacks primarily focused on double battles, I'm all ears.
Someone posted yesterday about a potential new game plus mode for Pokémon games, and I was wondering if any romhacks already did something like that?
>>59107913Pretty sure Clover has NG+
>>59107869One of the islands you can access through sailing has it.
>>59107702>Perfect Water Bluei looked at all the changes and some of them look like bad fanfcitionLike a new Mew Giovanny story event and gym leader changes
>>59107969Would you know which one it is perhaps? Don't tell me it's the one guarded by an f.o.e...
>>59107994Yeah it's blocked by the Kingdra FOE
>>59108003Fucking hell. I already have to deal with jacked up opponents running a good amount of EVs and optimal natures whilst I get nothing.
>>59108033I'm guessing you're at the second or third stratum boss since those were the hardest for me
>>59108059Right on. But even the boss of the first Stratum was brutal. That fucking Farmer Wigglytuff was pure aids.
Anyone have some weird romhacks to recommend? Just finished fools gold
>>59108271What do you mean by "weird"?
>>59108271Giratina Strikes Back starts off normal, but only gets weirder the longer it goes on both in story and team building options. Best to go in with zero knowledge beyond that. Just be warned, it can be grindy at times.
>>59107913Polished Crystal is adding it.
>>59108281
>>59108412PokéDuel is a pretty generic FireRed romhack. It has some cool added areas, and if you like YuGiOh you'll probably love it.But it's mostly just Kanto with Duel Monsters and YuGiOh characters replacing most of the main NPCs.
>>59106722Looking at their discord, it's funny that people there seem to fucking HATE MegaFidough, when he's probably the only reason people outside their circlejerk even know the game exists. Also, the whole "It sacrifices the identity of the game" is a real knee-slapper, because at this point, their 'identity' is "a romhack where the devs have no fucking clue how to balance things at all, constantly nerf things into the ground because they're just a bit too good (or because go fuck yourself, that's why), and then immediately introduce something that's even more broken than the thing they just nerfed".
>>59107095There's Scarlet and Violet romhacks? already?
>>59107433Define old. This is a 2021 build.
>>59108479It’s mods mostly that change little things, but the most stand out one is the compass mod and only because it came early https://www.nexusmods.com/games/pokemonscarletandvioletHowever that other guys comment isn’t 100% true. Theres Swsh rom hacks but they’re difficultly hacks from what I’ve seen.
>>59106014Kek i'm kind of like this these days though i'd play a pokemon hack if it has interesting features instead of simply designed for poketuber nuzlockesWish i'm not a brainlet when it comes to hacking/modding because there are some hacks i'd change the sprites to moemons for future playthroughs like emerald rogue, odyssey and rowe
lel
>>59109075Anyways that's Glazed done!
>>59108959>Define oldAnything before version 21.1
>>59106014Has anyone ever made a universal moemon patch that can be used for essentials games? I feel like that should be a thing.
>>59106579>Game where you play as Mew to fight PaulaThe fuck is this?
>>59106382I'm not asking for Platinum Kaizo difficulty where Cynthia has Garchomp, Manaphy, Giratina, Skymin, Darkrai, and Arceus in the champion battle. Just something more difficult than pure vanilla.
>>59106317It really sucks when there's only one reason to ever use a Pokemon and they go ahead and put the specific move that makes it good as a 70+ level up move. The early versions of the hack where Pokemon just learned all their moves at the start was unironically a lot more fun than the current game. They also completely reworked the starters in 2.1 to force overgrow/torrent/blaze on all of them and the improved versions of those abilities on the megas which made them all a lot less interesting. The thing that really rubs me the wrong way though is all the new dialogue they added is just off. Lines randomly repeat, the punctuation is all over the place, the text doesn't scroll quite right because they don't know how to use line breaks. You would think that the dialogue where May breaks into your house and asks you to choose your starter's region would get some proofreading but no, it's still as jank as it was the day they added it. They do not want to do any sort of polish passes and just want to add more untested dogshit until the game collapses under its weight. They also sat their romhack on top of Inclement Emerald and just didn't edit anything that doesn't make sense, such as the Chansey sidequest that gets you a heal vial which does nothing because you're full healed all the time anyway or the extra NPCs Inclement Emerald added that give you items you already have infinite of.
>>59109353From what i seen so far star emerald might be what you are looking forHacks these days in general are more difficult than pure vanilla though because vanilla is that easy so you just pick any moemon that isn't vanilla fire red (that one was pure sprite replacement)
Quetzal is so fucking good but keeping the nerf to Protean/Libero is a stupid decision, alas if only there was some normal Emerald romhack that kept those abilities as they were before the nerf...
>>59109256It shouldn't be that hard to do since it's just swapping out pngs. The problem is that different versions of essentials have different file names and some versions have the back sprite cropped so you have to make 3-4 versions of the patch if you want to cover a majority of the fangames.
>try playing through IF again because its been a while>game runs like shit because they've given every base mon 40+ custom sprites that without fail look worse than the originalsshame>>59109353You're describing Star Emerald. Adds surprise rival fights, extra gym leader mons, optional EXP divider/share.
Done!
>It's another "FireRed/Emerald but we tweaked the numbers to be le hard like dark souls and added 900 pokemon" hack
>>59109698>it was made specifically because pchal's gotten bored of running Run&Bun for the gorillionth time and needs new hardcoreslop to milk dry>which is impressive, because on average a run will take him several weeks to see to fruition because he spends at least two hours per turn debilitating on what to do next while looking at spreadsheets and running calculators to determine which course of action has the highest probability of assfucking him the least brutally
>>59109707Funny enough, pchal's one of the least bad about it. FlygonHG legit spent two hours for one fight on Renegade Platinum

>>59106812its rather a boring part of the gameplay. I like it when I have the option to max out the ev or levels without having to spend a lot of time grinding then I can try out different team combos. Thats where the fun is not having to kill 100s of mons for some exp.
>>59110083Quetzal version already got mentions in last 2 threads. Star Emerald while good is generally unheard of though it has more bugs than usual somehow (bug list says never store mons in box 1 and 2, wish i read that shit before 2 mons turned into bad eggs)Didn't know dyrano did a gen 4 hack maybe if i have the mood to stomach the snail pace of gen 4 i'll give it a try
>>59105578fuecoc edition next
Sad News: I bounced off Azure Horizons at the 3rd gym city. I don't want to be mean because this is an ancient romhack that managed to create a new region and have gen 4 mons and special split in 2009 but the boss fights just aren't fun. Everyone in the 1st Bug gym has Sonicboom, a grunt with a Spheal has Earthquake, the second gym has an Arcanine with Flare Blitz. I can't even grind Pokemon effectively because there's no Exp Share or Vs Recorder or anything besides fight wild Pokemon 6 levels below you.
>>59110011Renegade personally but Luminescent is solid
>>59106877>>59106838There is no reason to grind in most RPGs. Most people just do that to themselves whenever a game poses them a modicum of difficulty instead of actually trying to learn the fight/systems.There's also some people out there that try to avoid literally every fight and complain that they have to "grind" when in reality, grinding just means running around in circles to farm exp/money/whatever instead of moving on with the story or doing whatever sidequest is available.
>>59107597fuck it there is no hack that pleases my specif i brand of autiosm so i do it myselfIm editing all the pokemon that evolve via trade if i understand this correctly i just chose evolves via happines and then add a value like 187 so that once it reaches that number it evolves is that correct?
Does mariomon ever ramp up in difficulty or is it basic bitch vanilla all the way through?
>>59110791Never used HMA, but I assume that's how it works.
>>59110814i ask about the values because Golbat and Chansey are programmed to evolve via happines abut their arg1 is set to zero so i assume you have to give it a value for it to reach and then it evolvesIf you look at the normal pokemen like charmander and ivysaur for example their arg1 is set to 16 or so which is the level they evolve I dont remember friendship evoultios to be in firered so i guess you have to give it a number but im not sure
for the trade item evolutions i just set the method to sotne and left everythin the sameIf anyone knows more about this stuff and if it works like that id be really gratefulIm now editing the map wild encounters

>>59106834What are the first three rules?
Generally speaking if I want to make my own maps and region layout in Porymap is it better to actually make new maps or should I just edit existing maps? I imagine there's all kinds of variables and triggers in the existing maps and deleting them willy-nilly might break stuff elsewhere but maybe not having some of those will cause just as many issues. Anyone have experience with which of the two is less painful?

>>59110244I honestly think I'll try Quetzal. I tried Star Emerald, and it's cute, love the map changes so each route feels more adventurous instead of linear after playing Emerald enhancements a 100 times, but it so far has been essentially vanilla difficulty, except that now every trainer spams potions and full restores instead of just gym leaders and E4. I'll finish Star Emerald eventually, but for now, I want to play something with a bit more push back. I don't want to play against EV's on though, because it skews the game too much if the dev who's making team comps and movesets actually know what they're doing.

>>59113670And that's why you test one thing at a time to make sure that not only do you don't break anything, but you know exactly what you did to break it.
How do you deal with setting the level curve if you make a new region? Are you supposed to calculate the amount of exp the players would get on each route from mandatory trainer battles?
>>59113731I play the game.
>>59113731See >>59113743 Play the game (or get playtesters) and see if the level curve works out how you want
>>59113702so what did i do wrong here?
>>59113764Not testing one thing at a time.
>>59113936i literally only tested the changed evolution methot to see if i can just change cerain items like dragon scale or metal coat later on to stone and then let it evolve my pokemon later on
>>59113108>elm's aide gives you pussymodeeww...
>>59113455>>59114045I really wish romhack devs would add proper trainers to ev train/exp grind against like renegade platinum had in solaceon town instead of just pulling the "here have an infinite candy" bullshit. Or do something like gen 5 with shaking grass where it's easier to get exp but you still have to grind. They always just do band-aid fixes instead of adding proper features, just pissed me off to no end. The only other hack to do it was blaze black 2 redux but that one sucks because Apexcubed is a faggot and didn't realize what made blaze black 2 good in the first place.
>>59112852i dont like how you have to switch between the versionsotherwise it sounds nice
i dont think this rom hacking is for meI tried to do very basic changes to make Firered just a bit more vanilla plusNothing major and whatever i do it doesnt workI try to make tms reusable but it doesnt workI try to make trade evolutions work via stones and the game crashesI try to edit the wild encounters on the map and somehow it alos doesnt workI really wish there was just some simple vanilla plus mod wher the author doesnt change a bunch of other shit for the sake of "balance" or "nostalgia"I dont need some poorly made sprite edit so that red looks like his gameboy counterpart or some brand new elite 4 team because the old one wasnt challenging enoughI just want to play the game i played as a kid with some additional features
>>59107913>NG+3that's funny I just imagine the more you keep replaying the more you see Dark Souls characters start to show up until NG+9 it's just you starting in Fire Link shrine
Just beat Pokemon Dreams and had a fun time. The fuzzy brown bug thing is disgusting, a ground/poison that can Mega evolve and stack up Moxie buffs.
>decided to try odyssey because i played EO games>somehow managed to beat lv 55 lapras FOE with lv 24 team because shuckle surprisingly able to survives everything with leech seed support outside of hydro pump>gets blocked by this in the endi will never remove this weird turtle for the rest of the run but fuck>>59108086I could teambuild alot better but i had to land crits on that farmer because egg spam is just too much at that pointDoesn't help that the best way to level new mons without using cheat candies only comes after that fight
I'll never understand the anti-rare candy group. What is it about infinite rare-candies that make you think it's a complete affront to Pokemon?
>>59115939because they then avoid every trainer and encounter they can, also most stick to gym leader and champion as level caps, making most of the forced fights in-between not too threatening
>>59115951Most popular games that have infinite rare candies make it so most trainers can't be avoided, with hand-crafted teams to ensure that every fight is threatening, regardless of whether or not you're immediately leveling to the next cap. With the only optional trainers being gatekeepers to very valuable and useful items/TM's/strong Pokemon. I was going to ask who was "they" but it was clear who you were referring to.
>>59115939Why bother even having levels if you're going to completely ignore experience gain?
>>59116003yeah I'm not talking about the hardcore hacks that have infinite/functionally infinite candies as a feature, I meant for the more basic hacks or even the original games
>>59114212Grindhaus in Clover was probably the best way to do it but no one will ever use the concept because not only would it necessitate having to admit you played Clover even getting there requires having beaten the League once.
>>59116151What was so good about grindhaus
>>59116187Postgame facility for extremely easy access to Hyper Training, EV Reducing Berries, and most importantly, you can grind against specific mons for EXP and EVs against wild mons who don't fight back for free.Zero-effort EVs and levels, and the only thing keeping it from being instant gratification is the fact there's an actual time sink involved, even on speedup.
>>59114212>I really wish romhack devs would add proper trainers to ev train/exp grind againstNever gonna happen, that would require hack devs to actually think about stuff instead of opening the rom in a editor and changing shit randomly. That is literally what 9/10 "difficulty/vanilla" hacks are.
OhThat's a shinyDoes Tourmaline have high shiny odds with its shiny charm or is it still the standard 1/4000ish?
>>591166191/1024 at base, so with the charm it's at outright 1/512.
>>59116627Ah, that's less excitingty
>>59116619Nice.
>>59116955She's gone. I got filtered by the first gym being a Pinsir with that one rock move Roxanne has and X-scissor so my Spearow and Chespin can't do anything besides get outsped and one shot. I deleted the ROM and moved on.This was Standard difficulty btw
>>59116984lmao
>>59105578I love the idea of these games, especially letting you catch them all, but most of which I've come across change the shiny rate. I don't like that. I want my full odds 1/8192 shinys damnit. I don't want to play and inevitably roll my eyes when I see the 5th shiny pidgey.
>>59117132I've never come across a shiny in all my years playing romhacks
>>59117132You're not seeing 5 shiny Pidgey's even when the odds are at 1/4096 or whatever it tends to be now. There's not multiple spawning at once to make shit that trivial.
>>59117142Really? Did you play any that gave 1 in 512 odds?

>>59105578Oh cool did peridot get an update?
>>59117305I was too scared to. Besides I heard that Shroomish is pretty much the same statswise as Breloom sans Attack so if you're using it as a Leech Seed and Stun Spore bot then it doesn't really matter keeping it unevolved until Lv45 where it learns Spore.
>>59115951I'll somewhat agree with this. I feel like giving yourself rare candies is best for quickly getting a new team member up to the level of the rest of the party, or if you just need a few more levels before the next cap. It's silly to see someone beat a gym and then immediately use rare candies to get to the next level cap before even leaving the building. Encounters and trainers in between should still be slightly more than speedbumps; a nuzlocke or challenge run is not just a boss rush, the trainers you encounter on the way should still mean something.
>playing Dark Violet, a story hack of Fire Red>everyone meets up outside Bill's house, Gary, Daisy, (You), the opposite gender protagonist>everyone talks about the upcoming SS Anne party and walks away>enter Bill's house and he's transformedI just thought it was funny that three different people could've helped Bill but didn't
I have a really stupid question about the romhack Pokemon Black Pearl Emerald, but is Wurmple able to be caught? Looking at the encounters lists doesn't seem to show Wurmple as existing. Kricketot doesn't show up either, though Scatterbug does despite it also being a meepmurp

Any doubles romhacks? Those seem almost non-existent and I've been in a mood for them after playing Gale of Darkness.
>>59118644Pokemon Dreams has a doubles setting and has colosseums based on Pokemon Colosseum. There's a settings NPC in the first city.
>>59118656Thanks dude. Since it is a setting, that means the game won't be built around it, right? Or maybe it is.
bw2 triple/rotation battles only romhack when
>>59118663I don't think it is. I played super casually, Exp All the whole time while using Megas. There are other settings like a level cap if you need a challenge, I can't say much about how hard or easy it would be.
>>59118637also>mega evolutions>z moves
Any other Drayano like hacks? I like the way he buffs mons with type, stat, and move changes but I’ve played his hacks too much. I know about Inclement Emerald and will likely check that out next but wanted to see if there’s anything else
>>59118594I don't mind tasteful stat changes. Like +10 or 20 for a couple of Pokemon. Not completely reworking something like what so many hacks do for Ledian.
>the early game roster: route 1 rats and birds, bug types, mankey, sandshrew, maybe a zubat cave if you're lucky>the first gym leader: 500+ BST single stage Pokemon, stone evolutions, access to TM moves for coverage

>>59118707nta anon but I played one online fangame who had brawly's meditite use thunder and ice punchprior to roxanne, there was a zigzagoon that used surf
>>59117744This is probably great, those Spanish games rarely disappoint
>>59118594>>59118637Do you have any defense for shitmons, anon?
>>59118750lmao
>>59118566>all gensI'm fine with that as long as the maps benefits it. That and/or giving evolutions from the recent titles i.e Pichu (GSC) in Viridian Forest.Adding every early normal type known to man in Route 1 is retarded.
>>59118559>>59118566Honestly it only hit me recently how big of a problem this actually is. Having too many Pokemon significantly changes the feel of a route and subsequently the entire world I remember when, in swsh, people said that game freak was lazy for not including them all, I think they were smart enough to realize not every single species they had created to date would live in Galar
Romhacks where you can tell your first partner pokemon to get behind the referee?
>>59119044>Sceptile was disqualified for ring out
>>59118559Trust me, you aren't. I'd rather just see a carefully curated Pokedex of anywhere between 150-500 Pokemon from mixed generations. But it's much easier to just shove 1000 Pokemon into a game and call it a "feature"
>>59118566>difficulty settings>built in nuzlocke mode>lazinessHonestly just sounds like you can't handle anything harder than Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee difficulty
>>59119518It's a little confusing because all of those things would be green flags to me, a turbo casual. I can toggle Nuzlocke mode off, select Normal mode, level up whatever I want easily instead of constantly racing the level curve and completely ignore EV's/IV's. If a difficulty hack didn't have all those options I would cry.
lmao

>>59118559For me the problem isn't 1k mons in a hack by itself but 1k mons in a hack using only default vanilla region so dev is forced to shove each route with 8 mons at minimum to make it possible which feels very bloated>>59118566>nuzlocke modeYou can just not enable it like i always do and forget it even exists. Game auto box/delete your dead mons during nuzlocke run means laziness how?>unlimited rare candiesI don't even know why is this a thing in the first place, maybe the lack of stadium-like hacks >difficulty settingsThats the opposite of laziness dumbass

More like Politically Correct!Aside from that, I noticed there's a fourth protag option now compared to the last time I kept up with PC, and I turbospammed long enough to see that the "so this is your boy... friend." line from the Daycare is still there, so I guess that's the girl-looking nonbinary pick.

Do we have a list of romhacks that are actually worth playing?
>>59121308You can genrally find the vibe of a game by playing it for an hour. If it's not fun you drop it.
>>59121308That's something only you can answer. My favorite romhack/fangame that I've ever played was Solar Light/Lunar Dark, but 90% of people will call it shit.
>>59118684Blinding White 2 overhauls maybe even more than Drayno does. I can't remember if there was a lot of nerfs in his hacks, but this one has considerable nerfs so that stuff like Victini and Garchomp are actually balanced. Pretty fun. Difficulty is up there, I managed to get a nuzlocke run all the way to the sewers. I'm waiting for the next patch till I start another attempt.Moves https://ddex-chi.vercel.app/moves/Stats/Abilities https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uq5IGGcnYz8wu08GwCC6zE93KFg6gQDhG-NTARetr-M/edit?gid=1423358327#gid=1423358327
>>59121495>assorted buffs/nerfs>romhack special of pseudo flygon with bug/dragon>a boatload of hey i gave you a second typeYou sure this is good?
>>59118594>changing/adding types to pokemonGetting really tired of romhacks shoving the bug type onto Flygon.
>despite being on every major trainer's team and having its own personal poison type Outrage my Nidoking is falling off hard in Dark Violet>it's not even a case of no moves, he has Dig, Venomous Thrash, Fire Blast and Thunder and he's still failing to ohko basic trainers and taking shitloads of neutral damage backNooooo... I don't want to bench my Nidobro...
>>59121611Depends on what you consider "good". I saw a lot of intention with every change that was made, and that's what I like about it. It's slightly cringe if you think about it for too long, but cringe in a heartwarming way. Playing through the game made me excited for every pokemon that I encountered as they behave differently then how they do normally, yet still reminiscent of the originals. Up to Castelia at least, they all appear to be thoughtful changes in regards to when you get them and what challenges you face ahead. Definitely not everyone's thing, but after accumulating so much knowledge over the decade+ I've played these games about the viability of every pokemon and how they play, it's a nice reset.
>>59118684Inclement Emerald os by Buffel Saft. His hacks of XY and USUM are pretty good as well. Asides from that, games like Radical Red and Elite Redux also buff lots of mons.
>>59121637>I'm going to buff underrated types>Grass is now also resisted by Ice, meaning that almost half of the type chart resists itIf they wanted to buff Ice, then why not hit types with good offensive profiles like Water, Ground or Flying?
>>59121924Well you see, Grass is busted actually because it has powder moves. Ignore that so many mons will just so happen to carry coverage against the type since it has so many weaknesses.
>>59121762I was looking at his USUM hack, that and Supernova Sun/Penumbra Moon by Dio Vento. Would you recommend Buffel Saft's version over it?
would you guys play a romhack where you do johto backwards
>>59121495Not really a fan of direct nerfs but the buffs here looked interesting at a first glance. I’ll have to look through more to see if this my cup of tea. Thank you for the suggestion nonetheless.>>59121762Yeah I’m aware about who made IE. I mentioned it because it explicitly said Drayano’s hacks are a major influence. Did play Radical Red when it first dropped but not any of the future updates so may check that out. Not a fan of how ER functions and the fanmade designs get very outlandish imo but I respect the effort. Did see something called Emerald Imperium. Is that worth looking at over Inclement?
>play Black 2 DE>pretty vanilla experience with some modern adjustments but focused around doubles>first route encounters are Eevee with Friend GuardAm I about to experience some bullshit to get something this valuable right off the bat?
>>59122043Honestly, any romhack that makes you take a non traditional path through the game sounds interesting so long as it's balanced and the story is altered accordingly. After all, you need a reason for the final battle with Team Rocket to be in Slowpoke well.
Quarantine Crystal devs posted an update on .9. They’re saying that out of 6 images here 1 is fake.
>>59122236no way theyd change the starter so top left fakegenuinely excited for this although they took out a mon i designed
>>59114212I'd love a hack that makes every EV gained "neutral" and allows you to manually assign them to the stats (kind of what Champions does, actually)
>>59122014I played Dio Vento's Umbra Sun + Penumbra Moon, then followed up with Buffel Saft's Photonic Sun later. I think both devs managed to create some tough battles, Dio Vento's might've even been the tougher of the two. I found myself really missing the Pokemon Changes though, and after reviewing the documentation and using the buffed Alola mons I wished I'd done it from the start. Shell Armor Golisopod, pseudo-legend Vikavolt, faster Decidueye, ect.>>59122044Yeah I know anon, I mentioned the dev in case you wanted to check their other Drayano-like hacks lol. I hear Emerald Imperium is supposed to be an answer to Radical Red, but I haven't played it myself. Wasn't a fun of the custom mega designs though.
>>59122547NTA but if they saw that IE was inspired by Drayano why wouldn’t they check out the other hacks lmao
Are there any romhacks that buff Sceptile while not making it a physical attacker? I'm starting to notice that's a pretty popular change romhackers and fangame devs like to do.
>>59122560That's assuming they knew the IE dev made other others. Lots of romhackers only make one-hit wonders. Enhancement hacks guys like Drayano and Buffel Saft sometimes make multiple, but not always
>>59122578Inclement Emerald gives it the dragon typing in base form, and the Hidden Ability Chloroplast which makes the mon "Battle as if in sunlight". It's pretty much Mega-Meganiums new ability I think, pairs well with Solarbeam, Weather Ball, and Growth. It also gets some crazy coverage in the form of Earth Power and Aura Sphere via tutors.https://ydarissep.github.io/inclement-emerald-pokedex/?species=SPECIES_SCEPTILE&
>>59122580Other others my favorite hack. But in all seriousness you probably could’ve worded that better but it’s still good advice. Just found it a bit redundant after reading the conversation
>>59122591Actually played that a couple years back and completely forget how they treated Sceptile. Check out my Shiny Jirachi. Actually fast Vikavolt was cool to run too.
>>59122578Honestly, I think you could just give it access to Flamethrower and it'd be good enough. Grass + Fire is a very underutilized coverage combination (Solar Beam isn't that common on Fire types outside of Drought). Plus, it's much faster than the others with this combo, with the exception of the Chlorophyll + Weather Ball gang, except it can function outside of weather. It is a dragon of sorts, so that's not really so out there as Alolan Exeggutor also gets it. In game, you could let it not access the TM until around gym 6 or 7.Now I'm wondering if among all of these rebalancing and changing every other move/typing/bst hacks if there is one that sticks to the gen 3 limitations. As in no physical special split, gen 4+ pokemon, every possible item, and gimmick. Maybe you could add in a few signature moves, but nothing that much more powerful than the og Leaf Blade/Muddy Water/Blaze Kick (a little bit more powerful though as they kinda suck)
>>59120769Blud in the audience is going to score

Is PureRGB worth the changes overall to Gen1, do you think another hack is more worth it, or would you just go with the color hacks? Most of you would probably just play any other gen, though, huh
the more rom hacks I play the more I understand that battles are the worst part of these gamesThere's nothing worse than having to fight yourself through hallways of trainer battles where everyone has six monsters, equal or higher levels to your monsters and they abuse moves like toxic or protect or yawnEspecially when usually the main difference between winning or losing a battle is which monster you have in the first spot in your party
>>59123135>spoilerYup
wish Coral was completethere aren't many hacks that are the neat balance between old-school aesthetic and modern content (sans gimmicks), let alone ones with enjoyable musicPolished Crystal is a close contender, although when I played it I wasn't able of the version without the type/stats changes
Are there any upcoming romhacks that look promising?
>>59123022Looking it over now. The stat buffs themselves seem a bit lackluster for some pokemon and I would like to see more ability changes, but stuff like buffing Feint Attack from 60 bp to 70 bp warms my heart or making Stockpile actually viable. It's a little change, but it's so nice and thoughtfull for the gen 3 experience. Pidgeot not being a shitmon outclassed by everything else is a beautiful sight to behold. Definitely going to check it out.
Trynna decide between blazeblackredux, lazarus, or gadir deluxe for soul link, and i cant decide what to play.
>>59123368Never heard of the last one but I found Lazarus to be kind of mid even without all the bitching about the flags. Redux seems it’d be more fun for a soul link anyway

>>59123135PureRGB has a lot of custom code made for its new events, whereas most hacks copy and paste pre-made features and slightly change them. This is because few devs actually understand the hardware/assembly code fully. Shinpokered and PureRGB's devs are very knowledgeable on the game boy, so they can do a lot with it. These hacks have a lot of original code in them, and many hacks repackage/reuse the code they wrote.
