Literally the only advantage this website had over reddit was the pretense of free speech, but now they don’t even pretend to have it anymore, so I don’t get why anybody still posts here, instead of a different chan site.

I didn't need a mandatory run-down on who Brock is beyond "the rock type guy i need to fight", I didn't need a run-down on what Team Rocket is about beyond the self-proclamation that they're "Pokemon Gangsters", and I didn't need a description for Blue that's more in-depth than Oak's extremely brief "You've been rivals since you were babies" line.

USUM is the peak of the post-Fairy post-gimmick post-3D model for Pokemon era, even if it's held back by the fucking godawful cutscenes that I'd hate even if I liked the story. The campaign battles are solid, there's optional exploration that was seriously lacking in XY and SS on a macro level, tons of little sidequests to help flesh out the world even if they reward you with literally nothing, when emulated it looks pretty good, and if you don't play it like Kojo it's an engaging experience as far as the difficulty curve goes. It's really just the cutscenes and the micro of the map design that mostly ranges from mediocre to bad holding it back from being great, and depending on your taste that might still put it over RS (you'd be wrong but at least I understand why). A cutscene removal mod is my white whale, I'd probably replay the game the moment it comes out because I'm getting a little tired of the older games after a decade of nothing better coming out.

this never made sense. most of the routes are not literally straight lines. there's lots of optional areas on the first and third island in particular. if i have one complaint with the map, it's how mount lanakila was handled and this is something they just happened to fix in USUM by adding more rooms and trainers

an additional totem fight
move tutors
a method for Charjabug and Crabrawler to evolve earlier in the game
Mantine Surf, a mini game for farming BP if you wanted to take a break from battle facilities
obtainable Totem pokemon
many NPC trainers have different teams
Rainbow Rocket Castle
UBs also now have their own worlds in the Ultra Wormholes. even if there isn't much to explore in them, this is still better than in SM where they just show up at random parts of the map you already visited earlier in the game
Photo Club, probably not going to be an interesting feature to most people, but still it's a pretty inoffensive addition to the game if you really crave non-battle content

if there's one change i didn't like, it would be the way they handled Rotom, he was less annoying in SM, the Lotto powers are useful though
