why are the bag pockets always so random? Especially noticeable in Platinum because it has that perfectly symmetrical bag but the layout is still arbitrary

They could've just gone clockwise or at least mirror the right side but instead it's a completely random order, which is just bad UI design and makes you wonder why they even go with the bag layouts when they put no thought into it. It's almost as if in Zelda OoT one of your swords was randomly on the item screen

Is there some order or logic to it I'm not seeing?

Most devs get this kinda stuff right from my experience. It's autistic to care but it also isn't crazy to want your UI layout to have a logical order as a dev

it's not inherently illogical though, the categories themselves are ordered a certain way for player convenience, but who's to say the organization of the bag itself would follow that same linear order? the player character in universe would arrange their bag based on what fits where, not in the order the omnipresent 3rd person would select them through a UI. it's possible that the devs intentionally made the bag organized non-linearly to make it more natural feeling.

That's why it's especially weird with the Platinum bag because it's perfectly symmetrical and all the pockets are clearly the same size outside of the first and last one. Pokémon rarely really goes for realism in terms of "big item goes into big pocket," (I guess Black/White kinda does and some other franchises) so it's a bit weird for them to not at least have a logical order
