I first played them when they first released and even back then they basically looked the same as gen 4 graphics-wise and only introduced things that looked dumb or were annoying. The story was a huge part of this with all the pesudointellectual babbling about truth and ideals being slapped onto the black and white legendaries which made no sense and team plasma showing promise as something unique with the free the pokemon goal but only ending up being just be another Team Rocket bent on world domination in the end. The battle graphics were also terrible with all severe pixelation, copypasted and tweened gen 4 sprites and janky camera movements. The pokemon designs are also very half-baked and low effort - they seemed to be aiming for quantity over quality. Its obviously just a gapfiller gen while GF worked on XY so i dont know why its praised so much.

I was a kid top once and I would have wanted hulking dragons and monsters, not whatever these are. I'm sure part of the appeal was watching the little pokemon you caught grow up into a badass beast.Keep in mind I haven't played any recent pokemon game and am getting back into the franchise after a long time and am going in a chronological order to do some catching up.
